This is so far the best superhero movie (and The Dark Knight?) for 2008. Definitely a must buy!

Yea, BB gift set looks cool but I'd rather have a steelbook for this one. Although, we haven't seen the art for it yet...

I noticed each one comes with a $50 gift card to Sideshow Collectibles. That means these will go on blowout the day after that gift card expires.

That set seems like a no brainer to me if you buy things from Sideshow, which I do all the time. You are getting the dvd and that mini bust for free. I'll buy both the steelbook and this set.

God I hope you're wrong. That would totally suck if that's the case.

Keeping my fingers crossed for the Best Buy mask to come with the Blu-Ray edition, but I highly doubt it.

Oh well, that thing looks tiny as all hell.

If it's like the giftcards they gave out at Comic-Con, you're right. It's a pretty large selection, though... but it would be nice if you could apply it to anything.

Official announcement with all the bells and whistles:

HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. – Delivering non-stop action and excitement from a Super Hero who boasts not only unique powers, but also irresistible charm, penetrating intelligence and a wry wit, Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures’ worldwide box office sensation IRON MAN soars onto DVD and Blu-ray on September 30, 2008. Kicking off the fourth quarter, Paramount Home Entertainment presents spectacular Ultimate Edition two-disc sets on both DVD and Blu-ray, as well as in a single-disc DVD. IRON MAN thrilled both critics and audiences around the world with its captivating story and stunning visual effects. Called “spectacular” (Rolling Stone) and “a thrill-a-minute blockbuster” (“Reel Talk”), the film features an all-star cast including Academy Award® nominees Robert Downey Jr. (Zodiac, Chaplin), Jeff Bridges (The Contender) and Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow) and Oscar® winner Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare In Love) and was directed by Jon Favreau (Elf).

Earning over $315 million in the domestic box office to date, IRON MAN lifts off with high-speed, high-flying action when jet-setting industrialist Tony Stark survives an unexpected attack in enemy territory and escapes by building a high-tech robotic suit of armor. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armor and vows to protect the world as Iron Man. Straight from the pages of the legendary comic book, IRON MAN is a hero who is built—not born—to be unlike any other!
The IRON MAN Ultimate Edition two-disc sets are super-charged with hours of explosive bonus features that take viewers inside the suit of self-made Super Hero Tony Stark and his invincible alter ego. The sets offer the ultimate IRON MAN experience with extensive explorations of the origins of the character in a six-part featurette, as well as a seven-part in-depth look at the making of the film, a revealing documentary on the stellar visual effects, Robert Downey Jr.’s original screen test, deleted and extended scenes, a photo gallery of concept art and behind-the-scenes images on the set and more.

Hmmm... kinda uninspiring cover art for the 2-disc. I'll probably grab the steelbook unless that BB exclusive looks really cool in person.

Yeah, both Favreau and DowneyJr. are old hats at commentaries and it would've been the best extra on the disc if they had one. bastards

Agree with you 1000%. Is it really such a pain to pay Favreau and Downey a few extra bucks for their time to sit in a studio and record one for 2 hours? Plus, some studios record commentaries while the movie is still in theatres. I bet if they would have recorded a commentary in May while the movie was hot in the box office, Favreau and Downey would have had a very upbeat and enthusiastic commentary as well. Wasted opportunity by Paramount and whoever the fuck they hired to produce the extras.

No commentary is something of a downer. I had planned on picking this up in the fall, but I'm thinking I'll wait for the double dip when Iron Man 2 comes out. Maybe that release will have a commentary.

Favreau and Downey went to movie theaters around LA the weekend the movie opened and thanked people for going to their movie - they would've gladly recorded a commentary if asked.

when iron man 2 comes out? so you are willing to sacrifice being able to watch such a cool movie at home whenever you feel like, for a time estimate of lets say minimum 2 years, over the fact that it is missing a commentary??
i mean ok, nice to have such an extra, but do you watch movies or commentaries? ok, maybe i am simply more enthuiastic over having the dvd in my hands asap, but to miss out on owning it over a commentary is slightly beyond my understanding...
