It kinda sucks. PTA has talked about how he learned so much from listening to commentaries on laserdiscs and felt gracious to give back.

He's sold out!

Is there really going to be no commentary?
That stinks, but I love the film so much that I'll buy it anyway. Though I'll wait for the eventual BD version because if any film should be viewed in Hi-Def it's this one.

Wow what a another shit release by paramount. Doesn't surprise me after what they are doing to INTO THE WILD.
I own HD-DVD but I must bestow a special FUCK YOU to paramount for putting more features on the HD-DVD than on the 2-disk DVD.
This whole hi-def format thing has really made me lose faith in films and DVD.

While I'd love to get this in high def, I'll have to rent this one for a movie night to share Day-Lewis' masterful performance with my friends.

F*CK YOU Paramount with a capital "F". If that gets me banned, so be it, but this is complete and utter BS. You can't put more features on an HD version of a premium release where a barebones is also available. That's not how the market works. If there was one SD with all of the SD 2-disc features and then the HD with bonus, FINE. They are just being @ssholes.

Please, everybody, BOYCOTT this release. This isn't an HD vs. BD thing.
I would have problems with this if any other company pulled this stuff with BD too, so don't say it's because of bias. You pay the premium price for more features, this is complete crap they're pulling.

Also, I think it's completely moronic that suddenly PTA isn't making commentaries.
The one thing I've always appreciated were his informative commentaries, and I've seen him in person and he's not the most interest person (he tends to repeat himself too), but I'd still appreciate a full commentary. This is just LAZY.

I might just...hmm...this makes me mad. I'll leave it at that.

you know Disney did this for the BR edition of Ratatouille - there's a bucketload of extras that are nowhere on the standard DVD.

I've never liked the top art/photo layout, it makes Daniel Day Lewis look like he's trying to restrain a fart.

Wait and see what the features actually are before condemning Paramount for the apparent split. That list of features for the HD DVD is so clumsily written that I suspect some of those are mistakenly listed twice, like "fishing." The only thing that really looks missing is the featurette on pics, research, etc., and that may still be on the DVD. We'll see.

Why would you think that those were joke covers? Mao sent them to me. They're obviously very very early temp art.

Plus, where has anybody seen that picture on the 2-disc before? It's a brand new picture.

Trust me, I wouldn't jerk anyone around on this. There Will Be Blood is my hands-down favorite of last year, I just wanted to help post them so that I could see them, myself.

That's OK because there was no special edition of Ratatouille simultaneously released. If there was the Ratatouille regular, Ratatouille CE with more features, and the Ratatouille CE for Blu with even more features then I'd be just as pissed.
I bought the SD version of Ratatouille because I didn't have a BluRay player at the time and I was completely fine with that. I actually like the incentives for either side because I think that's going to get more people on, but Paramount is cheating with those incentives.

But as someone mentioned, I guess I should wait and see what the final specs are, though Mao has posted specs before and to my recollection he has always been on the dot.

OH, and if the 2-disc special features are the same as the 2-disc HD features then I take back EVERY SINGLE (bad) WORD. Then it's completely fair.

Not trying to argue, but I genuinely don't understand the posts by dman988 and chris_sc77. What is wrong with including more special features on the HD version? Isn't it like an incentive for people to pick up the HD version? Or how about a better version for the higher price paid? Or how about people who are into HD in the first place are more likely to want to watch special features than the average bare bones purchaser?

Agreed. Including exclusive extras on the HD versions of movies is going to become more and more commonplace, and frankly, is the way it should be done now.
