See, you can't fault a brother for buying movies to please his woman. I bought the awful Francis Ford Coppola Dracula because it's my partner's favorite movie, and I like to make him happy. In the same way, he sat through Amarcord with me because it's one of my favorite movies, and it bores him to tears.

Well obviously there are people out there that don't like horror, but when you go on a date whats the typical thing to do when you go to the movies. Bring a girl to a horror movie.

Yeah, I see a lot more sci-fi, fantasy and anime than I otherwise would because my wife likes them. She's even got here own little corner of my DVDAF profile where I segregate her stuff that I don't much like. I mix her good stuff, like Zatoichi flicks and the LotR trilogy, into my collection as though it were my own.

You must have not read any of the new posts I made about movies from the 70's. Plus I own some in my collection:

Superman
Clockwork Orange
Black Christmas

Also I find it funny how bad you think my colleciton is, when you own a lot of the same movies I own:

The Goonies
Christopher Reeve Box Set
Gremlins
Black Christmas
Dave Chappelle Block Party (I Use To Have It)
Final Destination 2
Hostel (Use To Own)
Lone Wolf And Cub ( I Have The Box Set)
Niptuck Season 1-3 (Use To Own Gave It To My Brother)
The Omen
Re Animator
Saw
Saw 2
Saw 3
Scarface
Sincity (Use To Own)
Spider Man 3
Superman Returns
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Original)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Remake)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake
Transformer's The Movie
X-Men The Last Stand

We have 23 movies in common yet plus a lot of your movies are TV boxsets such as 24, Veronica Mars, and Lost among others. Why you hate my collection is beyond me. Plus you stick up for the 70's and I only saw 2 movies from the 70's.

First you may have 23 in common as me but that is less than 8% of our movies in common, the reason why I feel my collection is better and why others on here may is for the other 92% of movies we dont have in common.

I have the following from the 70's and earlier

36th Chamber of Shaolin
Apocalypse Now
Assault on Precint 13 (original)
The Birds
Black Christmas
Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid
Superman
Dog Day Afternoon
Dr. Strangelove
Enter The Dragon
Fistful of Dollars
For A Few More Dollars
Godfather I and II
Good Bad and Ugly
Hills Have Eyes (original)
King Boxer
Lone Wolf Series
Mean Streets
Animal House
Omen (Original)
One Flew over Cuckoo's Nest
Psycho
Rear Window
SNL First Season
2001
Clockwork Orange
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Up In Smoke
Vertigo
The Warriors
Willy Wonka and Chocolate Factory

Ok for the record I don't like 60% of your movies, but I do admit that horror is ok. It doesnt scare me, and the gore, I can stand. I guess I'm not your average girl. Oh and my collection is better than yours, sorry hon. But thanks for buying me Teen Witch!!!

Ok so I have some relation to him, who cares? I don't always agree with him and his opinions. So stop worrying, I wont always side with him. He knows that. His whole argument about any movie made before 1970 not worth being watching, I completely disagreed with.

Yakuza thanks for the answer. I took a look at your collection, and although there are many movies in there I haven't seen yet, there's no doubt it 's a high quality collection.
It's clearly not a "great fun" one, but I guess you don't want to spend money on the more commercial and popular ones.
(It's hard to believe you just wouldn't be able to enjoy anything "lighter" than Ingmar Bergman movies .

I happen to watch and like all sorts of films (for many different reasons) so my (ridiculously large) collection contains efforts from all kinds of filmmakers ranging between Joe D'Amato and Krzysztof Kieslowski or Michael Bay and Mike Leigh.

Well, I didn't take the "rate my collection" question TOO literally and I certainly don't see what the value of me downtalking ANYONE'S collection would be. (Insert famous Bambi/Thumper line if you like).

I like quite a few of the movies in the OP's collection (mainly the B horror ones) and already said those typical 80's US comedies are not my thing.
Your collection i think is really great by the way, i guess I own about 75% of what you own.
Although your collection is totally different from Yakuza's collection, I would give both of your collections an A.

My collection reads like a mesh of both your collections (with a big amount of interesting fun horror and exploitation films thrown in for good measure) so hey, that collection I give an A as well.

Well according to him he likes movies from the 70's since he owns 3 of them.

Don't misunderstand me. I don't think it's bad at all. I'd previously wondered why this thread, and my comments in particular, had motivated someone to join DVDTalk and fire off a salvo as a first post. Now I better understand.

So stop worrying
I'm not worried at all. If this thread got you to join and you decide to stay after it dies, then that's a good thing. This place is filled with way too many WASP males (FYI, I fit the bill for three of those four criteria, so that's the pot calling the kettle black) for my taste.

His whole argument about any movie made before 1970 not worth being watching, I completely disagreed with.
So I'm sure you're pleased that he eventually recanted that position.

Yeah but it's just these 3 and many a few others. Besides that he still thinks the majority of movies made before 1970 aren't worth watching. That is what I don't agree with.

Well it's simple, just hit him on the back of the head with a baseball bat.

While he's unconscious, you can walk or drive to the nearest Wally Mart, go to their DVD section where you'll get DVD copies of Schaffner's original Planet of the Apes, Spielberg's Jaws, Schlessinger's Midnight Cowboy and Friedkin's The French Connection.

By the time you come home, you wake up your partner, get some refreshments, close the curtains, unplug the telephone and watch all forementioned movies.

There's a good chance your partner is gonna have a really good time watching those old films.

Well seems like my g/f opened her mouth I will get her later....HAHAH JK! Anyways I do like A LOT of movies I just don't own all the ones I like. I like Casino, Goodfellas, Jaws, etc etc I can't name them all. If I had every single movie I ever wanted you guys might like my collection way more. I'd rather get my "B" rated movies first because I have a lot of trouble finding them.

Yeah, I probably will stick around and maybe even upload my DVD collection. But I'll need until after Thanksgiving since right now I have no time.

It's not as pithy, but I'm partial to this one:

'I know what eternity looks like. It's white and yet very dark. It's like a desert in the snow at night. I'm beyond eternity. The abyss. Nothing.''
That's deep, brother. You'll have to let us know how that film works out for you.
