Robocop 20th Anniversary Edition - August 21

Another triple dip or is it quadruple dip now? I think ill get this to go w/ my trilogy box set. Alot of extras and a steelbook.

ReduxGuy 05-08-07 12:13 AM

Not another damn release!

Though the 2-discs, DTS, and steelbook look hella cool.

UAIOE 05-08-07 12:22 AM

Looks like i'll be picking this up in August.

I like the cover as well...its not the Criterion cover...but what could possibly compare to that?

Rogue588 05-08-07 12:29 AM

Guess I should get rid of my Criterion...

Shazam 05-08-07 12:37 AM

Fuck. That thing's too attractive for me not to buy it.

Apone 05-08-07 12:39 AM

Since I don't own any release of Robocop - I'm in!

gryffinmaster 05-08-07 12:41 AM

That looks great.

project86 05-08-07 12:47 AM

That looks frickin amazing. I havent bought the trilogy so I will be definately getting this.

TheMovieman 05-08-07 12:50 AM

Bought the trilogy set fairly cheap so I'll pick this up. Nice case.

JZ1276 05-08-07 01:12 AM

it definitely looks good....howvere i cant imagine owning 3 copies of robocop..i already have the trilogy and the criterion

Mondo Kane 05-08-07 01:26 AM

So I'm guessing that next month's release is just the bare-bones R version with a lenticular cover, right?

Very odd that they're gonna have "new" releases so close to each other, but that AE looks to be the one that I've waited long and hard for!

gotrice487 05-08-07 02:19 AM

Sick cover art!!! Count me in

Giggles 05-08-07 04:26 AM

Damn! And I just bought R2 British edition couple of months back...

tylergfoster 05-08-07 04:28 AM

The other RoboCop thread totally got me in the mood for this.

DeputyDave 05-08-07 04:51 AM

Cool, I was just thinking about finally replacing my stolen Criterion with the Trilogy (had it in my cart waiting for the DDD sale). Looks like I'm all over this one.

TomOpus 05-08-07 06:46 AM

I'm in.

stingermck 05-08-07 07:14 AM

Oh Fudge. Count me in too

Tenacious D 05-08-07 07:15 AM

Same here!

matome 05-08-07 08:00 AM

Damn, steelbooks are sweet. Must...resist...

Geofferson 05-08-07 08:04 AM

Sold my Criterion a while back in favor of a forthcoming anamorphic SE...looks like this is the one I've been holding out for. I'm in.

DarthMarino 05-08-07 08:17 AM

I wish it was the Criterion cover art on a steelbook. I may upgrade to this especially of the Criterion is worth anything.

Robert 05-08-07 08:32 AM

I'm keeping my Critierion with the "Director approved transfer" as this new steelbook will definitely have the cropped 1.85:1 ratio...

Same here. I love me some steelbooks. I'll cave in and get this.

Giles 05-08-07 08:46 AM

I'd buy that for a dollar... :)

Duh Vuh Duh 05-08-07 09:24 AM

Shit, right after I finally break down and get the trilogy, even though I got a great deal on it. But it's still sealed so may have to unload it.

I've heard 3 is horrible, how is 2, is it worth keeping the trilogy?

I actually enjoyed Robocop 2, while it's less tongue in cheek, it's a mean spirited movie, the victim count nearly doubles. I've only seen it in it's laserdisc version and the uncompressed PCM audio track are extremely LOUD and intense.

crazyrabbits 05-08-07 09:52 AM

What, no AMC Backstory Special? Still, this looks really good, but I fear it's going to go OOP quickly like the Oldboy set. I hope not.

BSTNFAN 05-08-07 09:59 AM

If the come out with this as an HD version, I'm all over it.

mxv 05-08-07 10:24 AM

I may have to unload my Criterion version of this and buy this one when it comes out. That would make for a triple dip since I have the box set too.

reverie 05-08-07 10:27 AM

I've got the trilogy, thus I won't be picking this up. But, I wanted to chime in with the rest and say that it's a very nice looking cover!

Egon's Ghost 05-08-07 10:40 AM

Wow! Could it be...a version of Robocop worth buying?

And for once, an MGM Photoshop job that looks good? A re-done logo that isn't complete and utter shite?

I don't care about DTS; I'd be happy with the original, Oscar-nominated stereo.

Purists, I wouldn't unload the Criterion--how do we know this will keep Verhoeven's 1.66:1 aspect ratio?

jmj713 05-08-07 10:56 AM

I have the Criterion and the Trilogy. Doesn't look like there's an abundance of new extras to warrant owning a third version.

He could have at least turned for the camera.

I'm not sure if an extra 3 featurettes are worth my plunking down $20 for a third time on Robocop. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite films of all time, but it's hard to justify buying it a third time for nothing that extra. I don't care about having the theatrical cut and I'm thinking that the DTS mix will only be on that version, not on the extended cut on disc 2. However, if I'm wrong I might buy it for the audio upgrade after all. The soundtrack is kick ass.

tofferman 05-08-07 11:11 AM

I like the Steelbook, but since I own the Criterion, I'm undecided as to whether I'll upgrade or not...

Given that this doesn't have a huge comic book and a film cell in it, and it's being released by a major studio, I would imagine it's not as likely.

I have the Criterion as well, the "Director Approved Transfer" is nothing to scream about. The picture quality is horrible by todays standards even though it is his preferred ratio. Give me a better anamorphic transfer any day.

I am all over this...

RagingBull80 05-08-07 11:33 AM

I will be buying this and keeping my Criterion copy as well.

GoldenJCJ 05-08-07 11:49 AM

Since I missed out on the Criterion, didn't want to buy the trilogy just for part on, and wanted the unrated version, this looks to be the one I'll finally be happy with.

Good news. And as much as I like Steelbooks, I'm not crazy about that cover art. Oh well, I guess nothing could compare to the Criterion cover art...

Zen Peckinpah 05-08-07 01:24 PM

YES!

TOTALLY did not see this coming.

Will be buying this ASAP...I'll buy this for, like, 20 dollars! :D
