The steelbook packaging was the only reason why I bought the rerelease. Sad to see it go.

One cant have any issue with DDD - its more with FOX and their inability to keep making them in this format (gee... is FOX and News Ltd going 'broke' ?? can't they afford to make more of this editions ???) Its like the DEFINITIVE editions that the UK gets - and what we poor cousins or convicts get in Australia. All we get here are the cardboard slipcovers for the so called 'definitive' editions (ie.... after the special... the ultimate... now the definitive... what's next ???) Mmmmmm... considering the R4 was quite packed - and uncut - I'm wondering what to do with my copy now ...... |
i guess these truly are limited editions which is just plain stupid imo. "Robocop" among a few others (Transformers, Superman (any)) that scream to be in a steelbook forever and ever.

Well shoot, this wasn't on buy "immediate" to buy list but I do want that steelbook so I guess I'll just plunk down the $9 at Best Buy this week.
I'm still pissed that I missed the Boondock Saints steelbook. You snooze you lose, I guess. |
Confirmed Robocop Steelbook for $8.99 at Bestbuy
|
Picked up the Steelbook at BB today.

For those located around the area, the DVD Planet b&m store in Huntington Beach, CA has the steelbook edition available. Sorry, I didn't check the price.
|
Wow...Best Buy has quite the deal at $8.99 for the Steelbook. Alas, I already opened my slipcover version from DDD...but I might just pick up a copy at Best Buy and throw the slipcover version on eBay. I can probably get $9 or more for it.

I got the steelbook for $8.99 at my Bestbuy.
|
amazon have it now for 8.99 - its tempting to get - but still there's no guarentee of getting a steelbook from them.
|
Went to two Best Buys today. The first had one standard case and one steelbook but it was all dented to hell. Second BB I went to had the same, one standard case and one steelbook left - lucky for me this steelbook wasn't dented so I grabbed it up.
Also picked up Saw III for 8.99 as well. |
I've just bought a Steelbook from Best Buy in Roseville, MN, and there a few there.
My first Steelbook! Looks awesome and feels awesome! Though the discs are a bit hard to get out. The cinema cut looks OK, but very grainy - perhaps a good DVD player (I watch on PC) can make it look better, I don't know. I noticed a lot of pixelization on those 80s suits. Pirates of the Carribean 3 looks so damn brilliant on my Dell WFP2007; why can't this look so good? In the end I now have my Robocop - thanks for the tip, y'all! |
i got mine from a best buy in brownsville, tx and the DTS audio track did not play on disc 2... i heard that a certain upc number of em are messed and that's all they had when i went to go return it... it was either exchange it or well basically that's all i could do :(
WTF. |
How are the new extras on Disc 2?
I saw the Trilogy box set at FYE for $19.99. Unless the new stuff is really good, I might just pick up the trilogy box instead of the 20th Anniversary Edition. Opinions? |
My opinion is the picture quality is still lacking... I wonder why it has been so poor.

PQ... I'm kind of expecting that with any version I buy. But I haven't heard anything about the new extras anywhere. Even the DVD Talk review was kind of vague.
|
I thought the extras are pretty good in the new edition. Picture quality seems better than the version included in the trilogy (plus you get DTS on both versions of the film). You can always buy Robo 2 and 3 at Walmart for $5 each.
|
Is the steelbook still available anywhere or is it OOP?
|
You can still find them. I saw a few sitting in Best Buy last week along with the new keepcase versions.

Anybody know the difference between this:
http://images.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/590455.jpg http://images.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/590455bh.jpg Which has all three movies, although the first movie appears to be the extended version. And this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...fL._SS500_.jpg Which appears to possibly be an OOP package of each movie in its own thin-pack, with the first movie being the theatrical release. I'm hoping that Robocop 2 and 3 are identical in each package, as I already have a bunch of different copies of R1 and want to pick up the OOP version (which I just found at Target) because I like the thinpaks better. |
The difference is that the latter package:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...fL._SS500_.jpg is the original 3 MGM individual releases bundled together. NO extras other than a trailer for each. The RoboCop trilogy http://images.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/590455.jpg Has a slew of extras for the first film in addition to being the extended version, while 2 and 3 are the same as all the other releases of those two films. The 20th Anniversary RoboCop steelbook that is the subject of this thread has all the extras the Trilogy version of RoboCop has, plus additional extras, more audio options and both versions of the film. If you want all three films bundled together, get the Trilogy version. It's in a digipak, but it's just a better release. |
The one on the top is the fold out packaging it includes Robocop with the original X-rated cut and extras, then Robo 2 & 3 with just the trailer included on both dvds. The bottom one is all three movies, the R rated Robocop, and the same discs for 2 & 3. skip them both and get the 20th aniversery Robobcop instead. It has both cuts of the movie and all the extras from the first unrated edition as well as a few new featurettes.
|
The color is much better in the steelbook. He's not so blue like he is in the three-pak. I couldn't stand the excess blue in that previous set.

I'll probably pick up the Robo1 Blu-ray once I can get a really good deal on it. |
