Now I'm certainly not a big Spiderman fan, and I've heard nothing but negative things about the 3rd one, but a comment like this just comes across as staggeringly arrogant. Especially coming from the man who brought us Jar Jar Binks.
Or the whole prequel trilogy, for that matter. There's not much story in all 7 hours of movie time, is there?

Oh, there's a story there alright. Most of it was apparently told in the novels, comics and the incredible, animated Clone Wars however.

It's not like Lucas is bashing Citizen Kane or anything. There's been a lot of negative press on S-M3, so he can't be too far into left field.

Apparently Star Wars fandom has officially become a religion now. "You didn't get the scene with Yoda because you didn't pray hard enough to Our Lord Lucas."

Star Wars was also criticized as being "silly," Lucas noted. "But it wasn't."

So having a character that speaks broken pigin english refer to the child that would grow into one of the top 5 villians as "Annie" for 2 and a half hours ISNT SILLY!?!

Do you ever get the feeling that George Lucas is a tad bit full of himself? I'm getting that feeling right about now.

Is he trying to use a Jedi Mind Trick, or something?
"But it wasn't," doesn't seem like much of a defense.

ok, I don't want another freaking box set, especially one that forces me to buy (I wouldn't) the Droids and Ewoks cartoons to get what I want.

I've posted this before 30th anniversary of Star Wars

comprehensive 4 disc set comprising only of A New Hope material
this would include the Holiday Speical as bonus, along with parodies/ promotial appearance, making of, etc. a cast commentary is long overdue and Lucas, you're running out of time to do this

the one movie at a time (one a year) super deluxe version is the only way to freshly approach remarketing the films, and to ensure getting the extras people have been calamouring for all these years

That's the wrong type of anamorphic. That's referring to the film format, not the video format. Here's the correct link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anamorphic_widescreen

As for Star Wars, Lucas gave us some bullshit reason like the negatives were damaged or lost or something like that.
He didn't say that the original negatives were lost or destroyed, he said that he had re-cut the negatives to incorporate the new and "fixed" footage from the SEs, so the original negative for the unaltered versions no longer exists. I don't think that aspect is BS, since I can see Lucas actually doing that.

However, it's still a bogus excuse for not doing a new transfer since most video transfers aren't done from the original negative anyway; they're done from an interpositive or other print. There are still plenty of other prints of the original unaltered trilogy to have done a transfer from.

The real reason why they didn't do a new transfer is simply because a new transfer would've cost money, and seeing as Lucas doesn't recognize the unaltered versions as legitimate anymore, he wouldn't allocate any money to this endeavor. So the DVD production team had to use what they already had, namely the 13-year-old letterboxed transfer created for the Definitive Laserdiscs.

More info on the letterboxed non-SE DVDs can be found in this thread:

"I don't recognize the Original Versions anymore. I am not going to take time and money to restore them, so if you want them you can get them on VHS." -George Lucas, Sept. 2004 when asked about why the SE are only coming out on DVD.

"I'm sorry you fell in love with a half completed film."
-George Lucas, Sept. 2004 about being asked about the fans who love The 1977 Original Version of SW and want it on DVD.

I just find it ironic that Lucas is doing this huge promotion of celebrating the 30th Anniversary of a film that is half-completed and doesn't exist to him anymore.
