Get ready to start bumping with your crow pie, because why would Lucas announce a 20th anniversary set on the day of the 30th anniversary?

Is there anything more juvenile than pointing out a typo?

I mean, I correctly cite the 30th anniversary at least 9 times in this thread, including once within the post in question.

It does make sense though. Lucas is focusing on games big time right now, not just with Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but with other new games so that Lucas Arts can be known for much more. It's not like Lucas needs any extra money.

It's the same deal as Yoda not being shown in Episode III landing on the planet he banished himself to... we didn't get that scene supposedly because the fans weren't faithful enough and complained somewhat about the prior two films. Now, we're supposedly not getting this set this year because the fans weren't faithful enough to purchase that crappy double dip editions with the un-anamorphic original theatricals with them. I wouldn't put it past Lucas. It could happen, sure. But I kinda think it won't.

What?!?! What kind of cynical, bitter fanboy do you have to be to believe that?!

I've seen the deleted scene, and it would have not fit in with the flow of the ROTS ending. Pure and simple.

I still wonder if that wasn't intentionally fed to the online media to guage the reaction of the fans and see what they really want.

Well as far as the Yoda thing, it's what I heard. It's certainly based on here-say but it's not something I myself made up and I'm not a huge fanboy. I actually don't mind the newer versions of the original trilogy and all that, and haven't been quite steamed about much. But from what I've heard from discussions on this forum, it just seems to me like Lucas can be a bitter snotball.

I like to think I'm up to date on most Lucas gossip, but I never heard that one.

There was a comment made last fall, re the half-assed non-16x9 OOT releases, to the effect of: "we'll see how well they really sell." There's certainly some snottiness in that little statement since they know they wouldn't sell well. I still see scads of them on store shelves to this day, and it breaks my heart. If they had only made that tiny extra step, everyone would have been happy.

Hell, I'd buy another set of them every month just to get that rush from buying the original versions on DVD.

God, how many specials were there...Clapperboard, SP/FX, From Star Wars To Jedi, The Making Of Star Wars, R2-D2 Beneath The Dome, Classic Creatures...I don't remember them all.

Nonetheless, if they release this, I'll buy it. No questions asked. I wait patiently, I don't care to buy the latest OT release, and if Lucasfilm releases a product that's great, I'm sold.

So my finger slipping and hitting a key next to the one I intended to hit (which is undeniable considering I correctly hit the "3" several times as opposed to the one time I made the mistake) is "juvenile"?

Also, I didn't start this thread.

I bet we see a basic 6 movie set with all the movies (as last released) included.

I won't buy ANY more Star Wars (including a Animorphic OT) on DVD. I have very nice HD versions of all 6 movies and until they release them in a HD format, I'm out...

I'm sure any news about Star Wars is being held off until the convention. I would just wait until after Memorial Day and hear about what was said. $45 for 1 day, non fan club members.

So, what's wrong with the current original trilogy (the non-special edition version)? Is it non-anamorphic?

Um, yes.

Or to put it another way, "Are you for real, Clark?"

They're 13 year old non-anamorphic, laserdisc transfers. 13 years ago they were supposedly the cats meow. Today, they belong in the litterbox.

And I don't care what argument anyone can bring up about us ungrateful fans not deserving anamorphic transfers of the original versions; the films deserve anamorphic transfers. Period.

Ok, first I am soooooooooooooooooooooooo glad there is another Star Wars thread to get us all lathered up again a few weeks after the "This Message Board Isnt Fun Anymore" thread. I was beginning to think we've lost it (The WKRP outraged died down way too quickly, IMHO!

Anywhoo....

I have three things to add to this conversation-

A. I want my mega-super deluxe "Meesa Ratha Be Dead Hea Then Dead In The Core.....What Is Meesa Sayin!?!" Box Set to be in a replica tin of the R2D2 mailboxes. I mean, if its gonna be that many discs anyway, lets go whole hog.
B. Is there any way we can get the Muppet Show starring the Cast of Star Wars as part of this mega collection? Who puts out the Muppet Show season sets on DVD. Is it Fox? What the Holliday Special coulda and maybe shoulda been.
C. Didnt Lucas say within the last year that the next time we would be seeing the OT was on the big screen IN 3-D!!!! ? I mean, if he's gonna do that, ya gotta have a DVD release for that then?

......and of corse ya know you've got to do the first DVD run with the old school technology with the old school red and blue glasses (which will come in 10 special edition designs that would make you a total loser if you didnt have all of them). Then they will be re-released in cutting edge IMAX 3-D with the ultra cool glasses (which will then be sold with 10 limited editon hologram stickers on the bottom right eyeglass), which will of corse mean that the original 3-D editons no longer exist because....blah, blah.....final vision....blah blah.....but if you have to have it...blah, blah....non-anamorphic...blah....

That is the only way Lucas will get me to buy this rumored 30th Anniversary Boxset.

The question remains, are the "original" versions really the way they were in 1977, 1980 and 1983? I've read over the years that Lucas tinkered with Star Wars when it was re-released in '78 or '79, and more tinkerings when it went to home video. It seems most of us here are too young to know first-hand. I saw Empire and Jedi in the cinema but I've seen the home version too many times

I refuse to buy this unless Lucas replaces all the weapons with walkie-talkies.

I'm sure Lucas will find some way to add more of Jar Jar in the OT

I have to ask...Is there a reason why Lucas did not release the movie with a anamorphic transfer? Is it that hard to transfer all the movies to anamorphic? Sorry to have to ask, I just can't understand why...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anamorphic - all you need to know about the anamorphic format.

As for Star Wars, Lucas gave us some bullshit reason like the negatives were damaged or lost or something like that. And according to him, the '77, '80, and '83 versions no longer exist. Just like the holiday special.

The only major content change was the addition of "Episode IV: A New Hope" to the first movie's title scroll when it was re-released to promote Empire Strikes Back in 1980. However, even during its original release there were minor differences in the sound mix between the mono, stereo, and 70mm 6-track release prints. Some audio cues were different, and C3PO had an off-camera line of dialogue in some prints that was missing in others. When the "Definitive Collection" laserdisc box set was released, a brand new mix was prepared that took the best parts of all the existing mixes and combined them into one.

So yes, it could be argued that Lucas has always been tinkering with these movies, but those differences were pretty insignificant compared to the major content changes he imposed in 1997 and beyond.

For that to be true, it would require us to believe that George Lucas actually listens to the fans. Considering the public statements Lucas has made about how fans love Jar-Jar Binks, or how fans think the new prequel trilogy is amazing, or ... pretty much anything Lucas has attributed to "fans" in the last five or ten years, I think it's pretty clear that Lucas doesn't actually pay any real attention to the fans or what they say. I tend to think he's very insulated in his estate, surrounded by yes-men who tell him how the fans love every decision he's ever made.

Did anyone else see this on IMDb today?

'Spider-Man 3' Is "Silly," Says Lucas

George Lucas has joined the major newspaper critics in their negative appraisal of Spider-Man 3. In an interview with FoxNews.com's Roger Friedman, Lucas said, "It's a silly movie. ... There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?" Over the weekend, Spider-Man 3 surged ahead of Lucas's Star Wars' episode Revenge of the Sith to take the record for the biggest weekend box-office record. Star Wars was also criticized as being "silly," Lucas noted. "But it wasn't."
Now I'm certainly not a big Spiderman fan, and I've heard nothing but negative things about the 3rd one, but a comment like this just comes across as staggeringly arrogant. Especially coming from the man who brought us Jar Jar Binks.
