The Rainmaker SE 7/24/07

I saw this posted over at dvdpricesearch.com that on July 24th, 2007 an SE release of The Rainmaker is coming out. Cheapest price is $9.44 over at deepdiscount.com

"Francis Ford Coppola directs and scripts an exciting, star-packed adaptation of John Grisham's novel about an idealistic young attorney who takes on the case of a lifetime. Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting) plays Rudy Baylor, a rookie lawyer in over his head on a high-profile case. Opposing him: an army of seasoned legal sharks (led by Jon Voight). On Rudy's side: Deck Shifflet (Danny DeVito), a feisty "paralawyer" who specializes in flunking the bar exam. Rudy's chances are slim to none- until he uncovers a trail of corruption that might lead to the one thing that could win his case: the truth."

If it's got a Coppola commentary, it's a no-brainer. He's one of the best movie-commentators there is.

A little suprised to see this one get the SE treatment. Paramount cashing in on Damon's Bourne fame, but it is a Coppola movie too, so maybe it's not all that suprising there is a SE.

The first DVD was non-Anamorphic so just correcting that would be good news.

Agreed. I can finally dump the crappy non-16x9 version. Paramount is slowly starting to revisit some of their old discs. Still waiting on a Breakdown 16x9 disc.

I was kind of hoping this was in reference to the Burt Lancaster/Katherine Hepburn "Rainmaker" instead. Oh well.

The old DVD version has some of the worst picture quality I have ever seen from a major studio. Hopefully the new DVD will be an improvement.

Seems like FFC has been slowly going through his back catalog and making good DVDs of them ('Dracula' is supposed to be coming out around the same time, though that's still unofficial at this point).

I do wish he'd put together a good release for "You're A Big Boy Now", but I've always been a fan of "The Rainmaker", so I'm glad to see it getting a good release.

I dunno why nobody posted specs. DavisDVD had them three days ago.

Paramount Home Entertainment will release a new Collector's Edition of John Grisham's The Rainmaker on July 24th. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Matt Damon, the 1997 film finally arrives with a brand new anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 & 2.0 tracks. Extras will include an audio commentary with Coppola and Danny DeVito, deleted scenes, "Watch The Rainmaker with Francis Ford Coppola" and "Francis Ford Coppola Directs John Grisham’s The Rainmaker" featurettes, screen test footage and trailers. Retail will be only $14.99.

The top of the DVD cover is like a font war.
