Yeah, and without him, we'd have never been treated to the Kevin Pollak classic "Stop With The Kicking..."

I've got The Muppets version of "The Frog Prince"

There's also the "Dead Poets Society / Extended Version" (14 minutes longer).

Also "Madonna: The Blonde Ambition Tour".

And, Close Encounters of the Third Kind has the mostly Original Theatrical Version on 2 different Criterion LDs and the 1980 "Special Edition" version on Columbia/TriStar LD, both of which are different from the DVD version.

Also, Brazil on LD has the original theatrical version that is not on DVD.

The Empire Pictures B-movie. It was released by RCA/Columbia on Laser. It was a shlocky and very silly sci-fier but I still enjoyed it. As it states on the backcover: "Forget about Wrestlemania. . .get ready for Monstermania!" Charles Band was one of the producers, need I say more?!

Here's another vote for Madonna's "Blonde Ambition Tour," only I'd like to see the Japanese version. It was earlier in the tour than the American issue and for my money better performance.

No.

And the scenes included on the SE DVD don't scratch the surface. In fact, one of them isn't included on the laserdisc.

No, I believe the "Love Conquers All" version of Brazil is what ended up on TV, which is why it's fullscreen on the Criterion DVD. The theatrical version may not have been 100% of what Gilliam wanted, but the really bad cuts weren't made until it hit TV.

That said, I don't think this list covers different versions of films. If the film has been released on DVD in one form or another, the LD wouldn't qualify for this list.

Madonna...
While we're on the subject of Madonna, the 8" Laserdisc simply called "Madonna" was never released on DVD, although the three videos that were on it showed up on "The Immaculate Collection" as I recall. However, the interesting thing is that VHS and Beta copies (and possibly the Japanese version of the LD) also included a video for "Burning Up", which still has not been released on any DVD to my knowledge.

I have the laserdisc as well and, yes, Burning Up is included.

Also of note is that the version of Lucky Star included is the original long version. The Immaculat Collecion shows the shorter (by 2 minutes) version.

Hmm... you have the U.S. Laserdisc? It's been a while since I've seen it, but I was under the impression it was missing "Burning Up", but the Japanese LD included it.

While we're on the subject of LD vs. DVD, I happily bought the DVD of "Daryl Hall & John Oates: Video Collection - 7 Big Ones", only to find out that it contained the extended version of "Family Man", not the original as it appeared on the VHS and LD releases. Normally that would be a good thing, but the longer one seems to lose something, and includes what I feel is extraneous footage, so I ended up buying the LD on eBay.

There are 4 different cuts of Brazil:

- Terry Gilliam's original cut. This played theatrically in Europe. Not on DVD in Region 1, but is available in some other countries.
- "Love Conquers All". This is the version the studio mangled and completely changed the meaning of every scene. Available in the Criterion set.
- US Theatrical Cut. Gilliam's compromise with the studio. Basically, it's his original cut minus 20 minutes he excised personally. Not on DVD in any region to my knowledge, but was released on VHS and laserdisc.
- Final Cut. Gilliam's original cut with a couple of small tweaks. This is the version in both the Criterion and Universal DVD editions.

Is there really a "Live in France" laserdisc? I couldn't find a reference to it.

I'm allowing for different cuts/versions if they are significant enough. What's a significant difference and what's not, I realize, is kind of subjective, but if the changes effect the plot or narrative, add whole scenes or lines of dialogue, or feature memorable moments, then it qualifies. So something like the missing few seconds from Revenge of the Nerds where they show the 'For Rent' sign with the phone number wouldn't be significant enough to warrant a place on the list, but the missing nudity/sex scenes from Goodbye, Columbus would.
