Some have reported receiving it from BB.com. If they are stocking it in their warehouse, they must have ordered plenty from the distributor, unlike earlier exclusives they have offered.

This was my fav movie of 2007. I picked up the 2 disc (steel case) and the extras were fantastic but they were all non-anamorphic. I think the studios should start focusing more on the extras if they are going to release seperate dvd versions of their films. It's nice to have them in widescreen, but if they are non-anamorphic, for the ever increasing widescreen t.v. population, what's the point?

Still sold out in Boston

The Best Buy store at Fenway is still sold out and the blockbuster by my apartment had a sign that read "Departed sold out we will recieve 100 copies on wednesday, pre-order now." Perhaps it's Whitey Bulger buying all the copies...

Geez I guess Bostonians really love this movie. I didn't see Boondock Saints, Mystic River or Fever Pitch sell like this. Then again I'd rather wipe my arse with a cheese grater than to sit through fever pitch again.

I bought this version with in store pickup and I went to the store and they gave me this:

And I asked the customer service if she's sure this is the steelbook version cause it sure didnt seem like it. And she said yes and that its the same sku if I didnt believe her (which it is). So I guess I'm going to return the version I have and order directly from the site and hope they send me the steel book tin.

^^^ yeah, they screwed up. I ordered mine for in-store pick-up when I heard they were going fast. I got it on Saturday and it was the right one.

Do you think I would probably get the correct version if I ordered the Steel Book straight from the site instead of in store pickup?

Now the site just reads "The Departed: Special Edition" sans "steel book and Limited edition." Was the steel book an actual limited edition? Are they only selling the regular 2 disk version now? Can anyone confirm?

The steelbook had a sticker on the cover that said "limited edition". It will get replaced with the standard 2-disc set. Maybe it already has.

The SteelBook(tm) version of The Departed was a limited edition, still available online at Best Buy.com
The cover just has the logo in a black gun, no pictures of the main characters, these are in the inside

Now, after the Best Picture win (feels good to type that), will there be another edition, this time with commentary by Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese (feels better to type that)? Hmm.

I definitely forsee Warner spending some $$$$ now and prepping a Special Edition for maybe a late fall or winter release. Probably early 2008 at the latest.

It's not like the two-disc set that's out now is shoddy. In fact, far from it. The only thing it's really lacking that I would like is an audio commentary.

I don't foresee Warners re-releasing this anytime soon. It's not their pattern. If it was Sony, that would be another matter.

I'm actually very annoyed at this release. Everyone in this thread is worried about getting a tin can for a box, meanwhile this transfer is complete garbage. I thought it was my player when I noticed the grainy appearance of the video, but other people have had the same problem.

I can't believe the reviewer gave this a 4.5 out of 5 stars for video. I've seen better transfers on movies in the 4.99 bin at Walmart.

I completely agree. It would take some pretty significant upgrades to make me double dip on this title.

I don't think the fact that High Def alternatives are available means we should stop expecting as good as PQ as possiple for regular DVD's. Furio is right, this disc just has a bad transfer.
