Is that Infernal Affairs the OOP 6 disker? Can anyone comment on the new version of the Trilogy just released on 2/13? Thanks.

I love that set, well the worth the money I put down for it...

Anyway about the new Dragon Dynasty release. According to the knowledgeable folks over at the asian dvd guide forum, it seems the first movie, "Infernal Affairs" is just the old Miramax disc. Yes, that same disc with the cover of the woman with the gun which has no relation to the movie at all. Also many people on that board complained about the subtitles on this old miramax disc, claiming they weren't accurate, but instead just plain made-up at some points? I can't prove that as I don't even own it, but I thought I'd throw it in there if someone else has any other information regarding that.

However, the second movie, Infernal Affairs II atleast has its commentary subtitled in English. Something that the set I own lacks, unfortunately.

Yep, also the miramax disc also has the infamous miramax filtering job (see kill bill vol 2 and cold mountain)

and your point? you and your wife are probably the ones that get FullScreen because it fills up the tv screen completely!

i'm that guy and usually don't see anyone else doing it. i may not be there for an hour, but i look a little longer than a normal consumer because i care about my collection and the presentation of it. not for anyone else to gawk at, but merely for myself...so what's wrong with that??

What's worse, the person who spends an extra minute or two (not an hour) choosing the best quality item to purchase, or the person who spends his time watching and mocking that first person for being a quality-conscious consumer? Give me a break.

FYI:

Asia will be releasing a duplicate 2-Disc steelbook. Just like the Region 1.

I'm sure 'an hour' is quite the exaggeration. I'm sure all that he REALLY means, is they see people pick up a DVD, maybe shake it to hear if the DVD is loose, look at the casing to make sure it's not damaged, and move along... where he may just pick up any old disc and carry on.

Yes saying a hour is an exaggeration. But I am refering to the anal retentive person who inspects every single inch of the dvd for any imperfections, all the while standing in front of the stock so others cannot reach it. We literally have to shove our way in there to get a copy. Give me a break, you are buying a dvd not gold....

Was it ever discussed how poor the DVD picture quality was for a while at the beginning of the film? Like the first meeting in the office of Queenan with Dignam, their faces was very grainy with hardly any details. It seemed to improve after the title sequence. Still, it's not even mentioned in the DVD Talk review or any other review I've read for that matter...

Wildo, you have no clue I guess on what scott1598 is mentioning. That Glue stain cant be seen, feel or smelled not unless one will open the DVD and it has nothing to do if one will check it.

I guess you already admitted it was an exaggeration. but then again.. was it necessary to shove? or was it another exaggeration on your end.

For real, the movie looks like it was filmed in the 70s or 80s. You would think it would look better than it does.

Just watched it last night and the transfer really was pretty weak. I expected much better.

I noticed the first meeting in Dignam's office was very grainy as well, but almost a digital grainy. Especially around the outside of their faces. I thougt something was wrong with my setup, but I popped in a few other DVDs and it wasn't the player. Fortunately, no one else really noticed it that was watching it with me. I did also notice a lot of background noise during many of the darker scenes. AUdio was phenomenal (I love me some Dropkick Murphys in 7.1 )

The person mocking somebody for being a quality-conscious consumer.

Bottom line, we pay MONEY for QUALITY! No matter what it is. As for DVD's, it's just like any other product, some people want the best quality for they're dollar. Some security seals on DVD's get stuck on the artwork if it is to high in the case during manufacturing, for that reason alone you have to look for a minute to see. Nothing worse than removing the security seals and have the paper tear off the cover. I can't stand it. Slipcovers also get badly damaged or beat up through shipping and stocking. So people have a right to LOOK for QUALITY!

And the person mocking can buy the DVD with those problems and enjoy torn off cover art and a damaged slipcover. To each their own. Now back to The Departed.........

Is the steelbook getting hard to find already? I was in Best Buy today and they had probably 15 or 20 on the shelf, they actually had more of it than the regular DVD. I grabbed it just to be safe, but here at least, it doesn't look like it's going very fast.
