I'm not one to normally complain about packaging, but it kind of annoys me that I can't display these chronologically. And every time I want to watch one I'll have to read the spine on each box to see which volume contains it. And since I don't want to watch these in some crazy mixed-up release order, I have to keep volumes 1 and 2 on ice while waiting for Dr. No to be released on December 12th!

slop101 12-01-06 02:20 PM

So what are some of the deals for volumes 3 & 4?

Will Circuit City have the same deal they did last time?

JangoJason 12-01-06 02:25 PM

what was their deal last time?

Yeah it is pretty annoying and I thought it was great that I could re-arrange the last releases into chronological order by box set (they had two 7-disc box sets and one 6-disc one so you could easily do a Connery/Lazenby box, a Moore box and a Dalton/Brosnan box) but at the end of the day it's only a slight nitpick. I know what order the films go in.

As for the annoying order, it doesn't bother me that much either because I'm getting all 4 box sets at once but they should have released all 4 together. I own the previous single-disc releases so asking for the 4 new sets for my big Christmas present from my parents was a no-brainer. I should get them all together and I'll be able to go through them in chronological order and I'm not tormented by waiting for them since I have the old discs if I need to watch Bond (though that's a non-issue because I'm still waiting for the new editions).

Buy both sets and save $15, which made the total $94.99 before tax. That's where I got mine. I expect we'll get the same deal for volumes 3 and 4.

Costco will have $10 off each set 12/18-12-24. That would make them $45.99 in our store, some stores may be slightly less. That's cheaper than the deal CC had last time - 2 for $95. If the Barnes & Noble deal is still going on (see the Bargains forum, edit: it is still going), they'd be $40.93 each + tax.

It seems most people are buying all four sets at an average price of $45 each. I still do not understand why these were not also released as one set for around $180.

matome 12-06-06 08:22 AM

I think the $45 thing is mostly because we've had a rash of sales with the DDD 20% and the Google checkout ones. Normally they'd be in the $60 range after the standard online discounts.

thursdaynighter 12-06-06 10:02 AM

Well, I've been watching the movies from the first two sets and have been very impressed. There are a lot of movies that either I had not seen or had forgotten. I'm having fun with it. I heard Golden Gun was not great, but I found it a lot of fun and loved Lee as the main villian. Also, I have changed my opinion on the the slim cases...I now like them. Better for space spacing and they're a lot more solid than I expected.

paulringodaman 12-06-06 12:27 PM

yeah...i have fallen in love with diamonds are forever and man with the golden gun..both of which are trashed in most of the reviews i have seen

Well I am having 3 christmas' this year.

And my second Christmas on December 13th I will be getting all 4 volumes of Bond.... James Bond Ultimate Edition Box Sets.

Can't wait. Those AND the Superman Box Set? Sweetness.

Cameron 12-10-06 11:47 PM

i only know I'm getting volume 1. day after xmas i'll begrabbing what i don't have

Wick 12-10-06 11:51 PM

My Mom bought Volume 1 when I was with her, so I know I'm getting that. I'm also going to ask for Volume 4, for Christmas. I've already purchased Volume 2, and I'm gonna' get Volume 3 on Tuesday.

The sets are great. The only problem I have with them are some minor packaging flaws I've noticed. The first set I got had a rip on the case/booklet holder (the thing that slides out,) and it would rip every time I took it out. I took that back and got another copy of it (it being Vol. 2) and the ad for the other DVDs wasn't inserted properly, and it got stuck. It came out in a crumpled mess, but there wasn't any damage done to the packaging...thank God.

So far, I've only watched Thunderball. It looked/sounded great. It's now one of my favourites (I'd never seen it before.)

Son of bitch! I didn't notice the dates you posted, and I thought the deal was on the day of release, I ended up paying around $110 for the two new sets at Costco, when it would've been way easier going to Best Buy and just paying $99 (a deal I didn't know about 'till now) for the two sets. And the hastle of returning them isn't quite worth the $10 savings...

Trinitron 12-12-06 07:58 PM

Well, to make you feel better (and this is in no way intended as a threadcrap for those interested in the better deal), you couldn't pay me $10 to deal with Costco crowds and lines at this time of year.

bevilacq12 12-12-06 08:45 PM

Man I'm so sick of cheap packaging. These slim DVD cases bend so easily, and have crappy disc-holders inside them.

I just got Vol. 3 and 4 of the sets are fine (not pristine, but as decent as you can expect with these stupid slim cases), but one is really messed up. On Her Majesty's Secret Service comes in a different style case than the other 4, for some random reason I could not possibly explain, and both discs have a multitude of scratches. I could return it for another, but then I'd be starting all over, and the odds of getting 10 good discs seems pretty low given these stupid cases.

slop101 12-12-06 09:28 PM

Huh... my discs were fine (clean and no finger-prints), and all in uniform cases.

As for CostCo, besides going a little out of my way to get there, it wasn't so bad, that is, except for the jackass in front of me who was using a credit card that wasn't his, and asked to see a manager because they wouldn't accept it...

Still, that's a cake-walk compared to the refund/exchange line.

paulringodaman 12-12-06 11:11 PM

Bad news for B&N purchasers----- my sets have been delayed to ship until JANUARY 11, 2007!!!

They have corrected my above statement!!!!!!!!

JoeyOhhhh 12-12-06 11:17 PM

I'm watching On Her Majesty's Secret Service, anyone else notice any issues with the transfer? I'm getting some "nice" ghosting effects right in the beginning

In mine GOLDENEYE is in a different style slim case. No scratches though.

Now that they're all out I've done the proper thing and put all the Connery DVDs in Box 1 (without those little booklets 6 will fit), The Dalton and Brosnan Bonds in Box 4, and the George Lazenby and the 7 Moore Bonds split in half between Box 2 and 3 with ten of the booklets in each of them. If they hadn't put the names on the sides of the boxes it would be perfect, but when all four boxes are next to each other with all the titles there, it's not as bad.

I feel your pain. I too got screwed by the cheap casing of OHMSS. My was scuffed up really bad. It still played and I was able to jump around from chapter to chapter without it hanging. My GoldenEye was also in the crappy case. It wasn't as scratched as bad as OHMSS but their were noticeable marks. I'm not sure what to do either. I could return it but then I might get stuck with more crappy cases and more scuffed dvds. I don't want to keep returning and returning. I don't understand why the hell you would put a different style of casing in the same set??
