Same here. Goldeneye is in a flimsy light gray case different from the other 19 in my sets. And the damn discs won't even stay on the hubs in that one, which is my only issue with it. I have lots of replacement cases, but no black slims that match these sets. I actually considered taking it back for an exchange, but now I see it might be a common occurrence. Why throw in one different case out of 20?

matome 12-13-06 01:31 PM

The holder always seems to get stuck when I try to pull it out of the cover sleeve case.

Same here. :(

I'm removing all 4 holders from these sets so I can display the movies in chronological order. :)

From sets 3 & 4 - Goldeneye is in the different case for me too. The discs are fine though.

Yeah, same here. I think the packaging sucks, give me keepcases anyday. Two less steps to open the movie, and at least a keepcase can hold the friggin insert too, 2-disc slimcases can't do this so the inserts are all bunched together in the box separate from the slimcases. It looks nice, but it's not practical.

Has anyone been having problem with From Russia With Love? Mine is not reading correct, it just says it is loading. Wjat should I do. I bought it from Best Buy. It had a faint mark on the disc.

IG80Nate 12-14-06 12:21 AM

Regarding Barnes and Noble- I also ordered from them and according to their emails- the sets went out yesterday. I tracked them on their site and they're currently in CA (which is where I am) and on their way to me (I hope).

So I guess not everyone will have to wait until the 11, though it really really sucks that they'd delay shipment like that.

Maybe they just ran out?

E Unit 12-14-06 10:14 AM

All my cases are the same for me. I do have one HUGE problem though, on Volume 4.....my Tomorrow Never Dies has 2 copies of disk 2. No movie. Damn them. Oh well, back to Best Buy for the exchange. At least it's easier than getting Superman II replaced.....

Mabuse 12-14-06 11:42 AM

Why has no one mentioned if On Her Majesty's Secret Service contains the footage that was missing/rearanged? Is this new release the correct theatrical version of the film?

It has the missing footage. But the pretitle sequence is really messed up colorwise. And go with the mono track instead of the 5.1 remixes. The gunshots in the last scene of the film are completely butchered.

Along the same lines as the OHMSS question, has Goldeneye been corrected in the US release from the badly cropped R2 release?

It appears to be framed the same way it was in the R2 release:

Over at HTF, some think it's an abomination and others who have watched it said they wouldn't have noticed it if it hadn't been pointed out beforehand.

Blips 12-14-06 11:28 PM

My Goldeneye set is in a different case also and I've gotten two sets with heavily scratched discs, my only ones of all 19 films. Which studio should I call to voice my frustration and try to grab a replacement? The DVDs are of MGM movies made by Sony released by Fox as far as I'm aware.

slop101 12-14-06 11:56 PM

Since it's only Goldeneye that's popping up in a different case, maybe those were discs that were corrected for framing at the last second? Just thinking out loud...

Wick 12-15-06 12:18 AM

These sets are beautiful, and the movies look/sound great, but they're terribly packaged.

Or maybe a bunch of ignorant DVD nerds online made the fatal assumption that the earlier DVD transfer featured accurate framing when neither transfer can be considered "correct" until they're compared to a theatrical print.

For all we know, the earlier transfer was misframed and the UE one is correctly framed and I for one trust the Lowry of 2006 more than the MGM of 2000. Just thinking out loud...

IG80Nate 12-15-06 11:43 AM

Anyone reporting any mistakes with volumes 3 and 4, in terms of content?

Missing booklets, etc?

That also makes sense.

I was just trying to account for the packaging inconsitancy.

donniemac 12-15-06 12:00 PM

no problems w/any of the sets missing material including 3 & 4. I must say I love the packaging. I don't want to break them up individually so the slim packs don't bother me - great space-saver.

Cameron 12-26-06 08:46 PM

got all 4 for xmas, and/or with gift cards. all of the inserts were inside but volume 4 inner box sticks when i try to take it out, and is peeling back the bottom cardboard. i also had a seperate case for You Only Live Twice, and Golden Eye. They are both black cases, but the hubs on each side are off center. The YOLT is dropping the first disc, so i am going to swap some cases and return volume 4 for a new box that doesn't stick.

Rizor 12-26-06 09:22 PM

I got all 4 sets recently as well (kinda an early Christmas present) and I've been plowing through all the discs since last week. I'm on Diamonds are Forever at the moment.

All my sets included the correct inserts so no problem there. As with others, in volume 3, my copies of Goldeneye and On Her Majesty's Secret Service were in the cheaper thinpak cases. The Goldeneye one's spindle didn't even hold one of the discs so once opened, the first disc just fell out. Luckily upon inspection, the disc didn't have any scratched. A bit annoying, but I switched the two cases with the last two Moore films. :)

Then I went about rearranging all the Bond movies. Putting the first five in Volume 1, the next five in Volume 2 and so on. One might think the fact that the movie names are on the packaging of each volume might be problematic, but in all honestly, I can't think of a time last week when I even looked at the movie titles on the spines!

One interesting aspect of these sets is the trailers for each film. They were probably included in the last set as well, but it's really interesting to track the progression of film advertising in general as well as in terms of Bond. Interesting to see Dr. No being marketed as a film noirish spy flick. It's also interesting to see the gradual editing changes of trailers and even the first appearence of movie trailer narrator guy!

D Vader 12-27-06 06:15 AM

Did anyone notice that James Bond actually got married in one of the Films? Remember which one?

I now have all four collections. I too think I'll put them in the order that they were released.

Anyone planning to get "Never Say Never Again"? the non-Broccoli film by Sean Connery?

Yep. You knew it had to happen if there were to be more Bond movies. Kind of a cheesy way to end the film though! I think it was the first time Bond cried too.

The tried and true but tired formula of 'Bond wins, Bond get girl' is replaced by Bond loses girl and perhaps a piece of his sanity ... and that's a 'cheesy way' to end the film? I disagree.
