Another evil and completely pointless plot from Peter Jackson and Sauron. These will not sell.

Well most people have already seen these blockbusters. But you know, even if they haven't... once they've seen the EE's compared to the TE's, they'll never want to go back. These EE's add so much to each film, and the extras available on the current EE sets are all that any extras fan would go ga-ga for. And even if they do a 'flipper' disc to retain as much quality as possible... who cares? You can get the non flipper versions in the set that's already as ultimate as they'll get... as ultimate as most box sets in DVD history will get. At least in region 1.
The cover art looks damn sweet though. Too bad I'm not ever one to purchase double dips based on cover art alone...

I'll wait 'til I see how good the docs are but I own both the 2-disc and 4-disc DVDs so unless the new docs are amazing I'll pass.
I love the cover art though. If those are slip covers, I'd love to find a way to get them and slide them over my current 2-disc versions.

Didn't Jackson seem to go on and on in the EE commentaries about how completely rescored and reedited the movies had been, with lots of alternate takes and script choices used, not simply a matter of sandwiching new scenes in with the old? Seems like there would have to be a lot of unique material to each version, say five hours worth, if either cut is to remain true to the versions that existed before. Hmm.
This is why I should be married. I haven't even watched half of the old extras, and I'm drooling over anything new. I need a firm hand, dammit! If I buy these and the upcoming Star Wars discs, I'll never respect myself in the morning. I am capitalism's bitch...

The Lord of the Rings
New Line Home Entertainment is revisiting Middle Earth with new two-disc limited edition releases of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King each will be presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 with both theatrical and extended versions on a single disc via seamless branching.
The second disc of each set will feature a film-specific, never-before-released feature-length documentary created by Costa Botes - the filmmaker personally selected by Peter Jackson to document the massive production - and culled from more than 800 hours of on-set footage. Available for a limited time only, the DVDs street on August 29th and will retail $28.98 apiece.

But my question is, if these documentaries are so great, why couldn't they make them available separately? I'd buy a reasonably priced set of new docs about the trilogy, but I sure won't buy the movies for a third time.

Anyone wanna bet most of these people that are saying no way WILL be buying this new set? I will readily admit I bought all the previous versions and I WILL be buying this set. I love the trilogy and I am up for anything new!
