Another evil and completely pointless plot from Peter Jackson and Sauron. These will not sell.

Add another vote to 'Not Interested'. I've got all three EE's and the free box they gave away with ROTK. SO I've got all the LOTR's goodness I'll ever need. I do have to confess though I'm curious about the Documentaries on these new disks.
Now, if someday PJ manages to dredge up an extra 20 minutes of footage for each film and does EEE's, I might consider double-dipping.

I really dont see what would be in this documentary that wasn't covered in the over the top amount of extras seen on the 4 disc sets. I haven't even watched most of the extras on the other sets, I'll pass.

Theatrical cut and Extended cut on one disc? Insane.
I'm happy with my Extended sets, so I'll pass on these.

Frankly, the extras on TTT:EE and ROTK:EE got to be repetitive -- how many freakin' times do we need to hear about how bigatures are like miniatures ... only big? I don't see how these new discs could contain anything new.
Maybe in twenty years, when enough time has passed for people to be candid about the filming experience instead of blabbering on about technical details and saying how great everyone was, I'll find additional documentaries interesting.

I never watched the extras on the extended ROTK, did Christopher Lee ever get interviewed about being left off of the theatrical cut? I remember at the time the film came out he was livid.

Definitely passing on these. I own both the TEs and the EEs, and see no reason to pay more money for what will have to be an A/V downgrade. The new documentary sounds interesting, but it's the sort of thing that I'd buy if it was sold on its own, and it's not worth the price for me.
The next time I'll dip on LOTR will be on an HD format... and I hope on that release we finally get some of the other scenes still left on the cutting room floor (like Eowyn's wedding, etc.).

I'm sure we've not seen the last of this, they'll be more to come in all different forms. Its a no no for me too. I have the theatrical and and EE so like most, that's it for me. I've stopped double dipping for awhile how and i'm finally saving some money. BTW I've seen some of the prices on these Blue Ray and HD dvd's. Who is buying these things. I'm not upgrading to it for nothing, too much money invested already in the so called Regular DVD's.

Yes, that reminds me of the extras of the FOTR:TE where they must've said a thousand times how they spent months growing real vegtables for the Hobbit garden. Once was interesting, after about the fifth time the wife and I started to wonder if there wasn't some strange veggie fetish that afflicted the production crew. Lock up your cumquats!

Re-Releasing is all just a scam I Pass usually on 99% of the Re_releases, this one will be no different. All of the companies do this, why? to make more money. Well they won't be getting any more of mine, wish we could teach them a lesson. But as always people will pay anything just to have what is so called "the best/latest"

You know, I've seen the EEs, but I do NOT own them ... if, somehow, they manage to put together a sharp set, retain the transfer for the theatrical AND the EEs (plus the superior audio as mentioned), then I'll consider this. The artwork is gorgeous, the concept is VERY nice, if executed well ... and the product development individuals behind the theatrical releases and the EEs didn't deter my interest in the past.

I don't really care about the new extras.. and I thought the EEs were really pushing it on their length; but I have to admit, it'd be nice and convenient to have both versions in a single set. If there's a good release date price on these I might get them and give my old TE set to a friend as a gift.

Hmm, somehow I can't see this working on seamless branching. For one thing, each film has about 30 minutes extra footage (give or take the 20 mins of fan club credits), they also have original Howard Shore music in as well, so that's gonna take up another audio stream. I imagine the "new" behind-the-scenes documentaries will be just compacted versions of the appendices on the EEs with maybe a smidge or two of never-before-seen footage.
The cover art looks very nice though.

SOLD!
But I'm a LOTR whore.
Does anyone else see this as almost a "fuck you" to the Star Wars OT re-release - New Line is also re-releasing both cuts of the film into one package, but doing it right (if it works...), and with new extras to boot.

Lucas could not do seamless branching to release both cuts of the Star Wars film on one disc. Seamless branching allows the disc to add in or skip scenes in a movie. While the SEs of Star Wars have a few extra scenes, most of the alterations are in existing scenes. So it is impossible to have that work for Star Wars.
And I think it is only a "fuck you" to the OT release if you're looking for it to be a "fuck you." As far as I'm concerned, this release is no better, as it will most likely have worse video (if the EEs could look so good on one disc, why were they on two before?), and contain no significant extras that people who didn't buy this film twice over don't already have. Even though the OT is being messed up, at least they are offering something that genuinely hasn't been on DVD before.
In other words, this release is just New Line milking more out of a money maker, and has nothing to do with Star Wars.

Seeing as I already own both the 2-Disc Theatrical Cuts and 4-Disc Extended Cuts of the trilogy, and they cover the ENTIRE film making process (in my opinion) perfectly, I will pass on these!!!
