This will probably be from the HD version that was broadcast. Nothing more.

Looks like they just coverted the snapper to keepcase. If it didn't have "2006" written in the bottom text, I would have taken it for a direct copy. 2.0 Stereo? Yikes.

Pass. Bring on the multi-disc set.

You know, I'm just spitballing here, but this kinda made me remember something I've wished they would do to make double-dips less painful for years now. I've always thought it would be nice if they would make the big sets have some sort of empty slot or tray section where you could put your previous release in and have a truly "complete" collection. In regards to Blade Runner, since this particular cut has been on DVD for several years now, and is considered a compromise by Ridley Scott, I'm wondering if they're planning on not putting it in the box set at all.

This single disc release now is for the casual fans, but for those of us that want all the versions, we could buy this and the big box and it would be really neat if the box had a slot we could put this one in to have it all in one place.

Is this making any sense to anyone else?

Speaking of Warner, the studio has officially announced the re-release of Blade Runner: The Director's Cut on 9/12 (SRP $19.97). This is a single-disc release (dual-layered), with no new extras, but you'll be pleased to know that the video has been completely remastered with a brand new anamorphic widescreen film transfer. The audio will be Dolby 2.0 Surround, like the original release. Keep in mind that a much more elaborate multi-disc Blade Runner: Ultimate Edition is currently in production for release sometime in 2007 - that is CONFIRMED. This disc is really just designed to update the original Snapper case release (one of Warner's first EVER releases on DVD back in 1997) with better video in the meantime.

While it is disappointing that it's not a 2-disc set as reported before, I'll still pick this up since it's remastered video. The last time I watched Blade Runner, I noticed how crappy it looked and I have a 27" SDTV. I don't even want to imagine how bad it looks on a big screen HDTV!

I'll be picking this up and the 4-disc set next year. Hopefully, the theatrical re-release will hit my neck of the woods. E.T. did, so I'm sure this will, but you never know.

I'm torn on this one. As Milo said, they probably will not include this in the 4-disc set, but for completists, it would be nice to have.

I have the original release, and I did catch the (a?) remastered version on HDNet Movies a couple of months ago, so I'm just wondering if I can live without watching this version again?

I'll probably just wait to see what comes out in the high def format and decide then.

I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention, so maybe something's changed, but didn't the original announcement specifically say that the 2007 set will have the new "final" cut along with the three previous cuts (theatrical, international, and 1992 DC)?

We were also told that this fall release here would be a 2 disc SE, so it looks like the gameplan has changed somewhat.

Since they haven't remastered the audio into 5.1, I'd say it's doubtful. Every HD DVD released to date has had a DD+ 5.1 track, even the originally-mono Blazing Saddles and Enter the Dragon. Of course, 5.1 isn't a requirement of the format or anything, but from a marketing perspective the studios are all pushing it. I think if Warner was planning to release this on HD DVD, they'd include a soundtrack remix in with their other remastering efforts.

I expect that Warner is more likely to hold off for Scott's "Final Cut" on HD DVD (with 5.1) sometime in 2007 than they are to release the 1992 "Director's Cut" on the format.

I think this release is just a placeholder DVD to tide fans over for the big package next year.

Holding off on the HD DVD version for a while also gives Warner a chance to milk out SD DVD some more.

My chances of buying the September release went from 0.1% to 0%. I double-dip mostly for special features, not just an improved transfer of the same freakin' movie. Can't wait the 4-Disc set, though.

I'm guessing you don't have a very large television.

Well, yeah, that's what I've taken to be gospel (and DVDPlanet seems to still think that's the release date), but DVDEmpire, DeepDiscountDVD and Amazon all show it pending for 9/5 now; can anyone validate this?

Just to follow up on this... it's listed as "Coming Soon" on http://www.lookandsoundofperfect.com

In and of itself, that doesn't mean much. That could mean next month or late next year... but it is apparently 'planned'.

$12.99 at Circuit City on 9/5...I guess that answers my question; thanks again to speedy1961 and his ad posts in the Bargains forum!

Of course it does ... September 5th is the day almost every single disc I've been looking forward to is streeting.

I'll still give this a rent, undoubtedly (even at that low pricetag) - however, I'm still gonna hold out for that multi-disc set being released next year.

Really? You've seen the BB ad? Cause it ain't up yet.

The ONLY one up is CC. So I'd love to know how you know about "BB and everyone else."

Not so much ads as websites, and by "everyone else," I guess I mean Amazon. I would have checked more sites, but after Circuit City, Best Buy and Amazon were all saying 9/5, I figured that I could trust the date change.

If only I had magical insider info....
