I really hope this new disc gets a new transfer. I love this movie, but the edge enhancement/sharpening filter on the current disc makes it hard for me to watch. I'm suprised more people haven't been griping about it, it's really really bad on this disc, probably the worst I've seen on any DVD.

Not a fan of the coverart. River looks constipated and Mal looks like he's about to go Rambo on everyone (is that gun actually in the movie?). Wish they went simpler, like one of the R2 releases with the Serenity logo - perhaps keeping the grey tones of this new art. Since it's pretty obvious the fans will be the ones buying this, they can do away with the headshots. Tragically, this cast has little star power with the general public.
I am still buying this, no matter what.

I can't believe I'm not only triple-dipping on this (having bought the first DVD and HD DVD), but I'm also in essense working backwards -- getting a standard def edition when I already own it in HD.
But Serenity is a special case. I'll make an exception and not feel the slightest guilt. This will be mine.

The artwork isn't great, but at least it is better than the first release.
Call me a sucker, but as long as they release anything Firefly/Serenity related, I will be there to buy it. I'm the same way with Star Wars. I must have 6 different versions of the original trilogy.

Looks like a great release. I'm really not fond of the cover art--I think it makes it look kind of cheap overall (mostly due to the overly large black border). I have a custom cover in mind that I hope to have done in time for this release.

As mentioned, the R1 update has a lot of extras that originally appeared on the R4 release. If you can play multi-region, you can get the R4 release in a spiff tin from ezydvd...

It's AU$17.83 plus AU$5.50 s/h, which nets to US$19.50 or so.

I picked up a used one on eBay for $6.
[Edited to add] Here's a scan of the back of the R4 edition

Is that back cover the actual back of the tin or not? It is a very nice tin, but it would be cooler to buy it if I could easily stick it on this new 2-disc of Serenity and have there not be any erroneous markings on it (the cover doesn't appear to have a rating).

FYI, the keepcase artwork is reversable. One side (the one retailers are obliged to put facing forwards) has a giant ratings certificate. The other side is identical but missing the rating.
