I'm thrilled. I was disappointed that Fillion wasn't on the commentary.

Hopefully this new version has a nice documentary too.

Wasn't wild about the movie but even I might go for this if there's a cast commentary (I'm a sucker for those). I have quite a few 3-disc holders so I'll just combine 'em and make it an 'Ultimate Edition' or something...

I'm definitely in for this. Joss Whedon DVDs are some of the only DVDs that I watch/listen to every single special feature.

I'm halfway through Firefly and wanted to look up Serenity so I can finish the story... I thought this thread would be safe, informing me of SE features so I can decide whether to wait or buy now.

Instead, I think some members just ruined some of the movie for me with their silly special edition names

I agree with GuessWho that such untagged spoiler talk is probably a bit tactless in a DVD thread, since people who haven't seen the movie may read this thread as well. I don't think ds6161's defence about this being "a long and beloved series" holds up since this isn't a movie discussion thread, but a DVD release thread.

Thanks, Jay.

ds6161, no offense taken.. but being a DVDTalk Legend as you point out, I know that I should be able to simply find a release date without having the movie ruined.

"this long"?
The movie is year and half old. Citizen Kane is decades old and people still know to keep the meaning of Rosebud a secret.

Wow, glad I'm reading posts backward, since I haven't watched the movie yet (was going to rewatch the series).
*stops reading*

Non-spoiler question: I have the Serenity HDDVD. Is this new release worth an upgrade? I don't care about commentaries, I like deleted scenes and featurettes.

dtcarson,
We dont' know what's on the 2-disc Serenity yet. As you are reading backards (savy or lucky for you!) you haven't seen Joss Whedon wrote a little note to everyone about the release. You can find it at whedonesque.com though. Joss: Re: your question: it's too early to say definately what's on the discs.

If I had to bet I would say it'll be worth it. It's also a nice simple way to send a message to the folks at Universal. And to thank Joss and crew cause they get a penny everytime we say... err... the ship's name!

While I do agree that spoiling the ending of Serenity was probably uncalled for, I also think that at some point you kind of have to put a statute of limitations on spoilers. If you haven't figured out what Rosebud was by now, you probably have no interest in seeing Citizen Kane anyways and being spoiled about Rosebud probably doesn't matter one iota one way or the other.

As long as no one says Rose has the necklace all along and that she drops it back in the sea and goes to die I think we'll be okay.

Horray! Now the two disc needs to sell enough to warrant a sequal!

Who do I have to blow over at Universal to get them to get this out on HD DVD?

Unfortunately, it's probably too early for a double-dip and the original HD DVD is still selling like pancakes.
