From what I've read (which may not be accurate) the season one set will include the pilot in its original, non-theatrical, cut.

I recently sold my season 1 DVD set. I couldn't take it anymore and I'm waiting for a new release including the Pilot and the the 2nd season. Maybe I will pick up the UK release.

What a fantastic show! I never bought season 1, even though it's reference quality, because it doesn't have the pilot. Criminal.

If it's the Hong Kong bootleg (the most commonly available one I know of), the audio is a swishy mess; the video is servicable, though.

Will this remasted Pilot episode only be available on the new Season 1 set from Paramount then?? Kinda sucks for us that already have the wonderful Artisan Season 1 set...

I can't believe it's as good as the season 1 set that Lynch supervised, transferred from the negatives.

Yes... it's true. We CAN confirm the story that MovieHole.net posted yesterday, specifically that Paramount IS indeed hard at work on the DVD release of Twin Peaks: Season Two for release later in 2006. In fact, they're going to be releasing both Season One and Season Two of the series together at the same time (as you may recall, Season One was briefly available a few years ago from Artisan). Yes, David Lynch himself is involved and yes, there's going to be some very cool, all-new special features. We've actually known this was happening for many months now, but had been cautioned to keep it on the down-low, given what's happened with Lynch DVD projects in the past (think Universal's Dune: Special Edition and the it-almost-happened Criterion release of Eraserhead). But things are more solid now and work is well underway, so there you go. The set is still TBA here in the States, but it's due on 11/2 in Australia, so you can assume its R1 street date will be sometime around then as well. Here's a little look-see at some artwork Paramount is preparing related to the DVD release...
However, there's no confirmation about the pilot.

I never saw the "pilot"'s "ending." It would be cool to have that sequence as an extra.

UK R2 has the broadcast pilot, not the movie.
European pilot was only ever available on VHS over here.

I've been dying to get into the show for the longest time, and all this talk has got me curious if (without spoilers for either ending, PLEASE!) the movie version of the pilot wrapped up the mystery the same way the series eventually did. (ie was it the same who that dunit.) Thanks!

Another good sign that this coming out: Amazon has both season 1 and season 2 available for pre-order:
Season 1 (there is no "sell yours" optional available anymore. All the used ones are from sellers who listed while it was out of print, but I doubt the same Artisan version is being re-released):
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...v=glance&n=130
Season 2 (there is no date or price):
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...v=glance&n=130
These changes do bode well that this is indeed coming out.

The reason there are two versions of the ending is that Warner Bros. helped finance that episode and had the exclusive distribution rights to it, while the rest of the series was owned by Worldvision (Aaron Spelling's company). Warner wanted to release their episode on its own to the European market and had Lynch shoot an ending that would tie everything up. He did, and although it makes a lousy ending for that particular episode, he was so pleased with the final scene that he incorporated it into a later episode of the regular series.
