I'm definitely in for the 14-disc set and the HD DVD...even though it's another stinkin' combo.

I hope I can get the "Tin Set", I HATE the covers for the other DVDs. I am not sure I could place the other DVDs next to my collection of DVDs, they are the worst DVD covers I have ever seen.

The "Tin Set" really is one of the best box sets I have ever seen.

Bring it on.

So it could be grouped with Superman III? I'm a bit confused...

Agreed. And SO much better than the standard releases. They didn't bunk up this, that's for sure. I'm in.

Same here. Fucking Warner. They seem determined to mess with my Superman purchases in some form or fashion.

I think he means Superman Returns 2 or whatever they will call the sequel to Bryan Singer's movie.

No, I was referring to Superman Returns, not Superman II. I said I wanted to be able to group Returns with its sequel (coming in 2009).

Why are they releasing that 8-disc Christopher Reeve collection again? haha I've seen some pretty awesome DVD sets before, but this one is nearly at the top, if not at the top, of the list - an amazing package. I'll probably have to break down and buy this one in November.

Gotcha. I knew you were talking about Returns I guess I just wasn't thinking "futuristically" enough...

Well, I hate the thought of buying SUPERMAN III and IV, which are abysmal, and rebuying LOOK, UP IN THE SKY!, but Christ on crutches I can't walk away from a set that fine.

Alan Horn, Bryan Singer and others say that the sequel is in the very early stages (Singer hasn't made a deal with the WB yet for the sequel) and that they are still targeting it for a 2009 release date.

I highly doubt we will get a HD-DVD 14-disc set -- current rumor is that only Superman: The Movie, Superman II, and Superman II: The Donner Cut will get HD-DVD releases. (We already know Superman Returns is getting a DVD/HD-DVD combo release.)

Well, at least the best Reeves films plus the Donner cut will make it to HD DVD, I'd be mighty pissed if they only gave us Superman Returns and Superman: The Movie.

It's a completely different cut.

Some things were originally shot by Donner.
Yeah, 83% of the footage that will be in the Donner cut was what Donner shot (only 30% of Donner's footage was retained in Lester's version) and will include some of the deleted footage from the first film, as well as a screen test cut into the Donner cut. The 17% remaining footage will be Lester's footage, to maintain continuity and some of it was scenes that Donner didn't get to shoot himself.

There'll be one thing starkly significant about the Donner cut: all or most of the Lester sight and physical gags will be cut out, including the Effel Tower scene.

But it's a shame that John Williams wasn't asked to rescore Donner's cut of Superman II, although the music from Superman: The Movie will be tracked back into the film (along with some Ken Thorne material). I guess Warners thought it would be too expensive to actually hire and record a brand-new score with Williams...

I said that too, I think they are releasing it because some people just want the four movies and not Superman Returns and all that other stuff.

Yeah, I'd think it would be too expensive to get Williams to rescore an unfinished film for release only on DVD. I doubt he would prorate his fee.

I am afraid I will have to buy this 14 disc Superman tin box set! eventhough I own the previous box set. I didn't want to initially, but it looks so classy and well done, Warner will no doubt be getting my benjamin for this beauty of a box set.

This is more than likely going to be packaged like most TV shows are with the multiple discs and the plastic flip sheets, kind of like the CSI box set etc. and obviously will be in a very nice protective tin box. Very nice!
