From thedigitalbits.com:
So there we have it. No 14 Disc boxset.
By the way, a lot of you have been e-mailing to ask us what ever became of the 14-disc Superman DVD box set that Warner had talked about earlier in the year. Basically, what happened is that 14 discs in one box set became 11 - 8 in the Christopher Reeve box set, and 3 available separately (1 for the Superman II: Donner Cut, and an as-yet-to-be-announced 2-disc Superman Returns DVD release). So there will be no 14-disc set - the plan simply changed as production moved forward. It happens like that sometimes. Just so you know.

As a heads up, the Best Buy on Jeff Davis in Alexandria has a few LE copies of "Look, Up in the Sky" remaining. I was able to use a $5 coupon from the AMC to save a few bucks on it since it was in the TV section next to all of the other Superman stuff.
Good luck to anyone who wants to try it.

Really wish they had announced these changes to the 14-disc set before Look, Up in the Sky was released. Definitely wanted it, but it was going to be part of that set. Why pay twice, right?
Hoping Best Buy will re-release their 2-disc LE for November 28. In the meantime, I will keep my eyes open.

More from The Digital Bits:
Okay... after making my Superman box set post earlier this afternoon, I've received even MORE confused e-mails. So I decided to go right to the source to help you all understand what's really happening with the whole 8-disc vs. 14-disc thing (just forget what I said earlier - in fact, I've deleted it from the post). I contacted Warner Home Video today about the whole Superman box set issue, and here's the real skinny: Basically Warner sort-of announced earlier in 2006 that they were going to be releasing a massive 14-disc Superman Legacy Collection box set with all the films and other materials... and then at Comic-Con the studio finally announced only an 8-disc Christopher Reeve Superman Collection box set. So people were left to wonder, what happened to the 14-disc set? Was it cancelled? Did the plans change and is the 8-disc set all we're getting now? The latter is what we had, in fact, been told by a number of sources and it was the logical conclusion to make. But according to the Warner Home Video representative I contacted this afternoon, there MAY still be a larger Legacy Collection release. However, it's not certain to happen, it's not yet officially announced and there are some issues that have to be resolved before it can come to fruition. Hopefully, things will play out such that we'll know more sooner rather than later. In the meantime, however, what IS for sure is that the 8-disc Christopher Reeve Superman Collection box set will street on 11/28, along with a separate release of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. As for Superman Returns, it will be officially announced in the weeks ahead.
So to summarize, you're getting 8 discs plus the Donner DVD for sure, along with Superman Returns (TBA, but likely due out by the end of the year), and there MAY still be an even more elaborate Superman DVD box set in 2006 or 2007, which hopefully we'll know about soon. And that's official. Sort of. It's at least as much as can be officially confirmed as of now.

I suspect this just flat-out isn't happening. If it isn't to the point where they can announce it, then there's no way that the packaging/discs/etc. will be set by November. In addition -- if the 14-disc set *might* happen, wouldn't that mean that they had Disc #2s availble for III and IV? If they did, they'd be part of the regular release, and the Reeve set would be 10-discs.
Based on what they've said so far, I can't see any way this is coming out in November. And to release it in 2007 doesn't make much sense either. I vote that it isn't happening, but I'd be a pleasantly surprised owner of the redundant Best Buy documentary if it does.

I own the box set and don't watch them that often, though I love all the Superman movies. I don't think I will be upgrading, I will save my $$$ for the sure Superman Returns 2-disc set from Warner.

After visiting three Best Buys, I finally tracked down the Look Up In The Sky Ltd. release. There was only 1 left after mine. I'm going to keep it sealed for now and wait for Warner to make up their minds on what's being released.

I cracked it open and watched it yesterday... it's a really good documentary. I wish they had touched upon the legal issues with the creators. That seemed to be glossed over.
But I didn't realize how much of what we think of as 'Superman' really wasn't introduced until the radio show. It really made me realize how open to reinterpretation the whole thing really is. There's almost no such thing as a Superman purist. He's evolved organically throughout the years.

There's a great book called Men Of Tomorrow: Geek, Gangsters, and the Birth of the Comic Book by Gerard Jones that goes into details over the legal battles as well as the origins of comics and the lives of everyone who was involved with that industry at the time.
Great read.
Great read.

They're getting TWO discs for Superman III & IV!?! If this is true, why the fuck does Region 1 constantly get shafted?
Yes...I know. I own a Region Free player so I can pick up this release if I wanted but it shouldn't have to be this freakin' hard!

I will get the DVD sets coming in November, but part of me wants to wait till next year and see what comes of the larger set, if anything. Perhaps we will hear something more about it before November.

Warner Home Video UK has announced The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection, and in doing so revealed noteworthy details for the extras not found in the Region 1 announcement!
