You've got to be kidding me. Really? That's what they went for?

Plus, I can't believe that the "version you've never seen" crap made it to the final version. Dear Lord.

Note to WB: I pretty much suck at graphic design. I'm a casual, amateur photoshop user. And I can make better covers for each one of these discs in (quite literally) about 15 minutes. Fire your graphics staff. Right now.

Heres some news I just saw from Comics Continuum, not sure if its been posted yet.

"Warner Home Video has released art from The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection and Superman II: Special Edition, Superman, The Movie: Special Edition, Superman III: Deluxe Editon and Supergirl."

looking at the box, looks like Supergirl will be the 125 min euro version, with a 5.1 English Surround. Guess I'll hold onto the 138 min directors cut.

Supergirl

According to this the Reeve's Collection will also have the Donner cut, and possibly slighty different cover art, as shown on the back of the box. BUT if look closey you see region 2, so who knows:

Reeve Collection

And finally, some other back shots:

Superman

Superman II

Superman III

I wonder if the HD DVD of Superman Returns will offer the deleted scenes in HD.

As for the Donner cut, it's not nearly as bad as the way the other discs look, but it's nothing special. And "The Version You've Never Seen," dear lord.

I just looked at it again.

God. It's even worse the 2nd time. They couldn't even use the Superman logo???

Whole-freakin'-heartedly agree. That Donner cut art is the worst thing I've seen since ... well, the Superman Four Disc Special Edition cover.

Why on earth is the Supergirl front and back covers the best of the bunch?

I think the bad covers are overshadowing how awesome these releases are. Come on everyone, a new cut of Superman 2 and a 4 disc set of the original, I can't wait.

Holy crap. Those Supergirl covers are bad, unfortunately griffinmaster is correct and they are barely better than the rest of the Superman covers.

Not to hijack the Superman thread, but I'm definitely glad I hung on to my Anchor Bay LE of Supergirl. They ported over the commentary and at least one trailer, but nothing else. It looks like it is the "international version", so my LE has the director's cut. Definitely no upgrading here...

I'm picturing someone looking back at the design through squinted eyes, peeking between two slowly separating fingers, hoping that what they see again can't be nearly as bad as what they know in their hearts to be true.

This is what I posted in the Superman Returns thread. Now after seeing the actual Donner's DVD art cover, I have to say that is was worse than I thought.

IMHO, WB is screwing up the release of the SE DVDs by using lame and cheap looking covers. Shame on you WB! I expected much, much more from you.

Superman II run times?

Anyone notice the different running times on each version with the "Donner cut" supposedly having added footage clocking in at 116 minutes, while the original says 127 minutes?

What is up?

Director's cuts aren't always longer. I'm sure Donner cut out some of the campy crap Lester put in.

I like the boxed set artwork. Looks like Superman 1 will have overlapping discs, which seems to be the new trend these days.

So you are saying Donner cut almost 30 minutes? that doesn't seem likely.

116 is only 11 minutes less than 126.

There's probably all new footage replacing many scenes as well, it's not like he tacked his stuff onto the existing cut.

let's do the math:
if Donner added 17 minutes to make his cut 116, that means he started with 99 minutes of Lester which is 127 minutes, thus Donner chopping or re-editting 28 minutes of the original Lester cut.

see?

Donner added a helluva lot more than 17 minutes.

It's a completely different cut.

Some things were originally shot by Donner.

That's weird the donner cut cover art, was different in this clip from earlier in the thread and now they changed it to the cover art in the first quote. WTF?

The information I've seen is that about 50 percent of the theatrical cut was Lester footage. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Donner cut out half an hour.

well over 50% of the theatrical cut was Lester. If it weren't, they couldn't put his name as sole director.

Personally, I think that would suck for the 95% of people who don't/won't have HD-DVD players (me included). It would be messed up just to release that footage on HD and not regular DVD. Hopefully, WB and Singer won't pull a lame marketing stunt like that...

Of course, if they release it in both formats, then that would be great!

Well, the Superman Returns HD DVD will definitely have IME which cannot be on the SD DVD so you're losing out on that.
