Buddy, regarding the Wallpaper, just made it my Desktop. I sort of agree with you though about him looking out of place, but I still like it. Maybe we're just not use to seeing a vertical Supe. We usually see him Horizontal. Too each his own.

I think this threads gone on long enough about the Covers though. Yeah they suck, but they can be replaced.

Lets get back to the movies. Some part of me from when I was a kid says to get the Box Set. Then my adult brainage kicks in and says just buy only Superman - The Movie and Superman II Donner Cut. Don't know who's going to win. Probably the adult hemisphere of my grey matter. I already have the Complete Definitive Twilight Zone Collection on order as well as Star Trek TOS Complete Collection and the little women's probably going to go Kryptonite on my Ass.

The exact same feelings here.

Same here. Wow. That trailer was pretty awesome. I'm hating the "christopher reeve collection." Bring on the 14 disc set.

Well... Warner has finally, officially, announced the DVD release of their 8-disc The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection (SRP $68.92) on 11/28. The set will include the 4-disc Superman: The Movie - Special Edition (SRP $39.92 available separately), the 2-disc Superman II: Special Edition (SRP $26.99 available separately) and the single-disc Superman III: Deluxe Edition and Superman IV: Deluxe Edition (SRP $19.97 each separately). Also available on 11/28, though not in the set, is Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (SRP $24.98).

There's still no word on the original 14-disc Superman box set that Warner talked about months ago, but we're told it remains a possibility for the future. And by the way, we expect the official announcement of Superman Returns soon, along with (eventually) word of the HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases of some of these Superman titles. In the meantime, here's a look at the DVD cover art for the individual editions for each film (we're still waiting on the art for the box set and the Donner Cut)...

So will the 14 disc set be released on the 28th also or would this be saved for a future date.
My dilemma is do I want to wait for the 14 disc set even longer if is not released on 11/28/06 or just go ahead and buy the Reeves set and purchase the other movies/documentary separately.
Damm you WB!

Ah, hell, if they release a 14-disc SUPERMAN set on high def, I'll buy that, too. What can I say? Less than a year ago, I would have paid a hunnert bux just to see a fifth generation, bootleg copy of Donner's SUPERMAN II on VHS tape. I've already purchased some of the SUPERMAN movies on tape, laserdisc, CED, and god knows whatever outdated format might have existed in the past, and I'll probably do it several times over with each new and improved format.

To everyone who's wondering why I hate warner so much refer to my post about halfway down the page here http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=471977

Keep in mind that I have emailed Warner Bros Multiple times and never got a response on any of this. I also Had an email forwarded to Warenr USa from the fella from tvshowsondvd.com (can't remember his name). I never heard back on that either.
IT might seem like I'm hacking on this stuff a lot, but it does seem to happen A LOT. Obviously , I'm not bitching about the quality of the picture or extras, just the horrible customer service (and shitty covers in my opinion)...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the 14 disc set on SD DVD will be about 6 discs on HD DVD

I wouldn't. It seems when you put things in high-def quality they take as much space on a HD disc as would regular quality stuff on a regular dvd.

Damn Buddy. Just saw your cover for BladeRunner, excellent work. Didn't realize you were a professional. How about applying some of that talent to some new Superman Covers. Feel free NOT to use the Wallpaper I mentioned.

The extras won't be in high-def. And i doubt the "look up in the sky" documentary would be either.

Thus...the only things in HD would be the movies. Everything else will be SD.

But at the moment HD DVD cannot support seamless branching, and wasn't the 14-disc box set meant to have the theatrical and director's cuts of Superman: The Movie?

So that's:

1. Superman: The Movie TC plus some extras
2. Superman: The Movie DC plus some extras
3. Superman II: TC plus extras
4. Superman II: Donner Cut Plus Extras
5. Superman III plus extras
6. Superman IV plus extras
7. Superman Returns plus extras
8. Superman Returns extras disc/Look Up In The Sky! (I would be shocked if SR isn't a two-disc HD DVD set on its own)
9. Fleisher Cartoons (or have they been taken off of the set?)

Either way, that's minimum 7 discs, and up to 9.

And even if it were 9 and $150, I'd buy it in a hot second.

I'd think that WB would want that bad boy to be released by Christmas of the year that the new Superman movie hit the theaters theatrically. Do you realize on HOW MANY wish lists the "14-disc Superman DVD Tin" will be on? That'll be casual fans, DVD-aholics, kids, everyone. Course, that's me thinking logically.

They might have decided to sell Superman Returns as a separate entity from the Reeves films (which is a little odd, since SR is meant to take place in the same universe).

Ummmmm... Superman is a 4 disc set

1. Superman I
2. Superman I
3. Superman I
4. Superman I
5. Superman II
6. Superman II
7. Superman II Donner Cut
8. Superman III
9. Superman IV
10. Superman Returns
11. Superman Returns
12. Look Up In The Sky
13. The new Superman documentary.

That's 13 discs. I'm pretty sure it will be announced the same day Superman Returns is.

Son of Zod, we were talking about a potential HD DVD box set. HD DVD puts its extras in SD, so it can hold a lot more footage than a regular DVD. The only thing it can't do is seamless branching, so I would expect Superman: TC plus the first disc of extras on one disc, then Superman: DC plus the second disc of extras on the second disc.

So, does the Richard Donner Superman 2 set that's by itself also include everything that the Superman 2 in the box set has. I mean, do you come out just as well if you buy the Superman 2 standalone disc instead of buying the box set?

Doubtful. it will probably have it's own extras about compiling that edit.

I'm not sure what you mean. The Donner's Superman II that is sold separately will be the same disc that is in the 13 disc set. If you don't want the boxset, you'll be missing out on a new documentary, but its not specifically about Superman II.

he's asking if the same extras will be on both the theatrical S2 edition and the Donner SE.

I responded by saying "probably not."

Why would it have the same extras? I mean the extras are listed at dvdactive:

Donner Cut
# All new introduction by director Richard Donner
# Commentary by director Richard Donner and creative consultant Tom Mankiewicz
# New featurette Superman II: Restoring the Vision
# Additional scenes

Superman II
Disc One

* Movie with commentary by executive producer Ilya Salkind and producer Pierre Spengler
* Soundtrack in Dolby Digital 5.1
* Theatrical trailer
* Languages: English & Français
* Subtitles: English, Français & Español (feature film only)

Disc Two

* Vintage TV specials The Making of Superman II and Superman 50th Anniversary
* New featurette First Flight: The Fleischer Superman Series
* Eight Famous Studios Superman cartoons mastered from superior vault elements: Japoteurs, Showdown, Eleventh Hour, Destruction, Inc., The Mummy Strikes, Jungle Drums, The Underground World, Secret Agent

If you buy the boxset with both then you'll get all the features. I don't get why he'd think they'd replicate the same special features for both dvds.
