It's pretty simple.
Pixar has become what Disney used to be, namely the byword for quality children's entertainment.
Disney proper has become the Hanna-Barbara of the 1970s--i.e. mass-produced crap on a stick.
Disney is making bucketloads of cash from the cheap knock-offs now. Will they 25 years from now when the kids who grew up with the crap become parents and think, "What was big deal about Disney supposed to be anyway? Their stuff was nothing special at all."
Disney is just diluting its brand name in a search for a quick buck--and their brand name is their major asset. They will regret it later.

Now that Disney is Pixar-less, this pedigree isn't all that reassuring for Disney's immediate future.

but disney isn't pixar-less. Cars is on the way, and they are hacking out a new deal as we speak. Pixar loves that Disney money, and it goes the other way around. Now that Eisner is out, things are moving along in negotiations.

PIXAR will never have an arrangement as good as they had with Disney. The sequel issue and Eisner screwing them over on Toy Story 2 was pissy of the Mouse House, but their marketing muscle and omnipresent media presence has allowed them to promote PIXAR in more conceivable venues that any other entertainment giant could touch.
Groiny? Perhaps. But the true oily skinned

found this at ultimate disney and thought i would pass it on. screen caps for Leroy & Stitch and Kronk. Also a look at the trailer for Cars on the Toy Story DVD.
2005-06 Animated Film Preview: Cars • Kronk's New Groove • Leroy & Stitch
A piece of good news about Kronk's New groove
All of the original film's voice talent is back, including Patrick Warburton in the title role, David Spade, John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, and in perhaps his final performance, John Fielder (the recently-deceased long-time Disney actor best known for voicing Piglet). Kronk's New Groove will be released to DVD in December.

I wonder if the group clamoring for Song of the South have actually seen it recently?
It's TERRIBLE.
I've seen almost every major Disney feature film release (even BULLWHIP GRIFFIN) but SONG OF THE SOUTH, I couldn't get myself to watch again. Not because of any racial issues or any PC bullcrudilia like that, but because it's so woefully, dreadfully DULL.
But that's just me. It should be out on DVD, of course, so people who enjoy it can have it. And personally, I'd like an all CGI

Lilo and Stitch (the movie)
Stitch! The Movie (2)
Lilo and Stitch: Islands of Adventure, aka Hawaiin Adventure (3)
Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch (4)
Leroy and Stitch (5)
That Adventure dvd is a game and has an episode from the series ("Clip") on it as well.
There is also a new Stitch plushie available at WalMart, and it contains a dvd with previews of various Disney shows, including a preview of that same "Clip" episode.
I still thought there was another one we aren't thinking of, and this site seems to indicate it as well...

An article from Variety (subscription required) confirms that direct-to-video "midquel" Bambi II (formerly known as Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest) will be released on February 7, 2006, proving that marketing departments' conception of "spring" doesn't always coincide with the traditional Vernal Equinox launch. Disney has previously employed early February dates for straight-to-video films The Lion King 1½ and Mulan II. The focus of the piece is that Bambi II will feature original songs by country singers Martina McBride and Alison Krauss, but it also mentions that the DVD will include "trivia tracks" in addition to the fairly standard DTV serving of "interactive games and featurettes." Though this year offers a record-setting five original direct-to-video films from DisneyToon Studios, president Sharon Morrill reveals plans to stick to "only" three or four DVD premiere movies per year in the future. The Studios' 2006 output will include Brother Bear II (tentatively slated for June), which will contain music by Melissa Etheridge.
