Yep. It's the funniest movie of the decade so far IMHO. I think the most recent one that compares is the South Park movie-go figure.

Give Older Comedies Their Due

Sometimes it seems like the average age on this board is 19 years old...it's always revealing when lists like this come out and so many people only mention films within the past 2 or 3 years. Hopefully people will search out films beyond this time frame because the funniest movies are spread across the board in terms of years. Here are some older comedies that are among the funniest movies ever made.

Trouble In Paradise
The Lady Eve
The Merry Widow
The Awlful Truth
The Gold Rush
The Women
My Man Godfrey
What's Up Doc?
The Party
The Palm Beach Story
It Happened One Night
His Girl Friday

If you're going the classic route, I'd throw in Ruggles of Red Gap and The Mad Miss Manton.

no way should anchorman be in any top 10 funniest movies. It was the most overhyped movie of all time. I didn't catch myself laughing once at that movie. Too bad the marketing of that movie got me to buy the 2 disc set. What a waste.

The funniest movies are:
dumb and dumber, office space, and happy gilmore

I'll probably get crap for this but, the only movie to ever make me laugh many times out loud was Road Trip.

Yeah, I don't get the love for it. The funniest scene is when Gene Wilder goes, "...He shot me in the ass!" That was probably the only thing I really laughed at.

I CANNOT believe so much love (okay, 3 or 4 people) is being given to Clifford. I haven't seen it in awhile, but I've consistently regarded it, to anyone who will listen, as the worst movie I've ever seen. I don't know. I guess what's one man's gold is another man's anal warts.

I agree with a lot of movies listed here, but if I was forced to pick some of the funniest movies I've seen, it would probably include these:
Dazed And Confused
Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
Wet Hot American Summer

And if forced to pick the funniest period, I'll go with: Dumb & Dumber

Since the orginal question was the funniest movie and not the funniest movies, I would say Airplane.

I've seen it too many times to even enjoy it anymore but the first time I ever saw Something about Mary was the hardest I ever laughed at a movie.

another one i just was thinking about was "election" with mathew broderick.. that had some funny stuff in it.. he got stung by the bee and had that big swollen eye. haha.

also some people might not think it funny but nicolas cage's performance in "vampire's kiss" was hilarious... he is seriously one of the best actors to ever live.. how many actors would eat a live cockroach way before fear factor was doin' it.

"dead man on campus" that scene where alysson hannigan's hair got caught on fire doin' a bong.. hahahaha. that was a good flick.

and i can't believe noone mentioned the cheech and chong movies.... up in smoke, nice dreams... classics.

might need a little "help" with them but those are side busters right there.

I just watched Withnail & I, and felt the need to come here and add a recommendation for that alongside my previous mentions of Office Space, Super Troopers, Lebowski, and etc.

Don't threaten me with a dead fish.

I agree with alot of the votes for 'Airplane', 'Office Space', 'Road Trip -though Tom Green ruined it!'................but for feel-good funny, it will always be 'Some Like it Hot'. Not my favourite of all time, but a Desert Island movie.
