I guess they figured that they spoiled the surprise, so they edited it out

They show the extended cut on the Lifetime Channel whenever it's on.

Anyway, here's something to tide you over:

Another unhappy camper awaiting Quick Change.

Re: Naked Prey: I just watched "Leave Her to Heaven" and learned that Cornel Wilde directed and stars in NP.. I was dismayed when I went to NetFlix to add it to the Q and found that its not on dvd yet. Never seen it and sounds very interesting.

Then to fool the cops more, Murray rips Davis' shirt to make it more convincing. The two of them then come from the bank.

I saw this in the theater and when I bought the VHS tape, the scenes were missing.
That would completely ruin the surprise of the next scene. I'm glad I never saw that when I first watched the movie (on tape).

Naked Prey is one of my favorite movies. They show it all the time on TV - I'm surprised you never ran across it.

What exactly is this surprise to which you refer? Spoiler it if you want.

Spoiler:
The surprise that the "hostages" being released from the bank were in fact Bill and Gina. Giving away the ruse in advance kills the punchline.

It's kind of obvious anyway. They're all on the box cover/movie poster; the synopsis mentions that the three of them rob a bank; and it would be a bit strange to have two big stars in bit roles as disguised hostages. I gotta think most viewers see that one coming a mile away.

Spoiler:
The punchline is when the doors open and we see that the "hostages" are in fact the bankrobbers pretending to be hostages, not that Bill Murray and Gina Davis played those characters. We know that they are bankrobbers. What we don't know is how they're going to get out of the bank.

It's a matter of timing. The joke is funnier when it is revealed as they come out the doors. Showing too much set-up beforehand makes it merely a plot-point, not a gag.

What's there to be spoiled? After all, the VHS version, Murray lets one hostage go and Davis comes out with her shirt ripped, followed by Murray. 1) How did Davis's shirt get ripped. 2) If Davis wasn't part of the robbery, she would have told the cops right there that Murray was the clown robber. I like the Theatrical version better.

Why don't you actually read what I wrote?

Actually, now that you explained it, Josh, I'm inclined to agree with you. It does work better the other way. Plus the extra scene is unimportant anyway, so axing it isn't a big loss.

Davis DVD is reporting that this, along with Almost Heroes and a few other Warner catalogue titles I can't currently recall, is being released on August 30th in anamorphic widescreen (1.85) and its trailer.

Instead of august 30th, Amazon is listing the availability as "Release date to be announced:The release date for this video has not been finalized."

Uh oh. Did this get yanked? Anyone know?

I think so. It's on my Netflix queue listed in the Saved section as "Unknown" (release date).

DDD no longer has a listing for it. DVD Planet has it listed as Discontinued. Buy.com has a date of 12/29/06.

Dammit! This better not be getting pushed back to fall '06! There's no reason it should have been unavailable on DVD this long as is.

God damn it all to hell. I was really excited for this one. I wonder what the hell happened and how long it will take until they fix it. I need more Murray!

Now Totoro isn't going to be out until 2006. With my luck this one will likely turn out the same.
