Best:
1. Terminator 2-Ultimate Edition
2. Wizard of Oz-3 Disk CE

Worst:
1. Baywatch-Hawaiian Wedding-I'm not going to ask
2. All of the Hilary Duff movies
3. White Chicks

Need: It's hard to say because you don't have a particular style
1. Ocean's Eleven -you have the sequel and this is a much better film
2. Pixar films (Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Incredibles)-you seem to love Disney, so....
3. Frat Pack films (Old School, Wedding Crashers)-because you already have Dodgeball and do seem to like such low-brow comedies like American Pie and Road Trip

I'll add a link to my collection.

You and I have very similar taste, Scott.....

BEST: It's VERY difficult to pick just 3
1. Almost Famous-Untitled
2. Citizen Kane
3. Spartacus CC

WORST: Virtually none, but if I've got to pull teeth...
1. The Last Unicorn
2. Practical Magic
3. Signs

NEED:
1. Adventures of Robin Hood-a 2-Disk Warner classic, fun and beautiful to look at
2. Treasure of the Sierra Madre-another classic 2-disk Warner. This was one that was recommended to me on this thread. The film never looked better and the documentaries are great.
3. Hellboy-Director's Cut-A fun movie based on a comic book with chock full of extras, including a 2-1/2 hr making of documentary.

TNAJason

Best

Spider Man LE DVD set Very good film, but excellent DVD set to have.

Leon: The Professional Excellent film and definately the best R1 version available.

Dances with Wolves R3 LE Excellent film (albeit sorely paced) with a beautiful LE packaging and a full bit rate DTS track. I too own this.

Worst

Blade Runner My absolutely favorite sci fi film ever produced .. also the worst presentation of said film. It's really a shame.

Miss Congeniality 1 or 2 There is no room anywhere on me for Sandra Bullock. She's extremely irritating.

Keep in mind we have very different tastes in comedy, so I'll lay off the list. But one thing that I did find discouraging is the amount of full frame titles that you have. With that size of collection, I would almost expect one to have a deeper appreciation of how the films were originally intended to be seen. Oh well .. to each his own. This would be my third choice.

Recommended

Le Dernier Combat (the Last Battle) Doesn't necessarily go right your alley, however you have a couple of other Besson titles and this R1 release is a post apocalyptic sci fi adventure story done extremely well and there is almost no dialogue throughout the film at all. I'd highly recommend this film if not for just a rental at least.

Memories of Murder I highly recommend this due to your Hannibal collection. Since your region free, take a look at a Korean film about the country's first serial killer. It explores a variety of things but most interesting .. aside from the suspense revolving around the chase .. is how the govt investigator and the local jurisdiction deals with one another and the different detection methods used. It's very comical at times.

Skin Deep I recommend this title to anyone, especially with such an interest in comedy. It's a very, very good film ... campy, serious, dramatic, silly .. it has everything, including a display of John Ritter's acting abilities.

Ringu You own the American remakes .. try the original, also available in region 1.

Mr. Cinema-

Best:
1. Treasure of the Sierra Madre SE
2. Planet of the Apes Ultimate DVD Collection
3. King Kong 2 Disc SE (1933)

Worst:
1. Dukes of Hazzard
2. True Lies (only because it's not anamorphic and no extras- This is a movie deserving of a documentary)
3. Signs (I just personally can't stand m. night shyamalan)

Need:
1. Manchurian Candidate SE (1962) (if you liked the re-make, you would love the original)
2. Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan DC (This and Undiscovered Country are the only bearable movies in the original series)
3. Sin City: Recut, Extended, Unrated (wait no longer-get it!)

AJAX:

Very nice collection!

Best
Breathless (one of my favorite films)
Film Noir Classics Collection Vol. 1 (a very fun set)
The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy: Special Extended Edition (film-wise not among my top 30 from your collection, but who can argue with the DVD)

Worst
Meet the Parents (I never understood why people liked this movie; the nipple joke doesn't even make sense)
Sideways (I admit that much of my hatred for this movie derives from the fact that some serious critics liked it)
Gladiator (I've never met a Ridley Scott film I didn't hate)

Most Needed
The Warner Gangsters Collection (I bet you'd dig this one)
The Adventures of Antoine Doinel (you like Godard so I assume you are at least open to Truffaut as well; these are some of my favorite films and the Criterion box is drool-worthy)
Rififi (perhaps not an obvious choice but I can't imagine you not liking this heist film)

Wow. What a collection.

Best: Cries & Whispers (I'm a sucker for Bergman, and this is one of my faves)
The Station Agent (Peter Dinklage is amazing and the script and direction are perfect)
The Errol Morris Collection (I envy you. I really need this!)

Worst: The Osterman Weekend (I only ever watched this cut to ribbons on latenight cable tv. Never liked it.)
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (take all the anime and chunk it)
Sex, Lies, & Videotape (I freakin' hate this movie and I think James Spader is the devil)

Need: The Sopranos (easily as good if not better than the HBO series you do have)
Shadow of the Vampire (good story about the "making of" Nosferatu)
Grey Gardens (excellent documentary missing from your large Criterion collection)

Thanks for the compliment! I actually do own Grey Gardens--I just put it in my trade list when I heard a rerelease was coming. Now that it's enjoying a revival thanks to the play and the rerelease is on hold, I should probably add it back to my collection page.

I haven't seen The Osterman Weekend. I only bought it because I needed a fourth title during Suncoast's "60% off 4 or more DVDs" going-out-of business sale. It's sitting sealed on my shelf and I'm not sure whether to open it or resell it.

I'm not a fan of anime in general, although I make a big exception for much (though not all) of Miyazaki's work. Also the Cowboy Bebop series is a guilty pleasure.

I agree that The Sopranos is great. I buy all my HBO sets used at GameStop, and I can't ever seem to find a Sopranos set that isn't scratched to hell. One of these days I will own them though...

The thread that wouldn't die...

grem458:

Great collection! Very hard to pick 3 best and 3 worst,

Best
The David Lean Collection: 3 classic films and great dvd's.

Citizen Kane - Two-Disc Special Edition: A great combination of a great film that received a fine special edition treatment. The documentary and commentary are fantastic. Warner started to hit it's stride with this release.

Your Criterion Collection: 'nuff said

Worst These are more for my opinions of the movies themselves than the actual discs:

The Avengers: A waste of a fine collection of talent.

Saving Silverman: ditto

Monster's Ball: A highly acclaimed film, but I just don't get all the praise.

Needed:

Great Escape SE: time to upgrade, same goes for the Dirty Dozen

Spartacus Criterion: This would be a fine addition to your collection

The Wild Bunch SE: If you're going to have any westerns, you should start with this one.

Bonus suggestions:

Star Trek: First Contact CE
Wallace and Gromit
U-571 CE
The Big Red One
Spiderman 2 SE
Looney Toons Collections

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Psycho
Seven Samurai

Worst:

The Thing- hated this movie
Blade Runner- see above comment
Cobra/Tango & Cash- ugh

Needed:

Ikiru
Rashomon
Cape Fear remake

This tread is really should last, especially after DVD Aficionado removed the option:
"who else got it" it was a big disapponment.

Hey .. thanks bballing. No sweat though .. since I enjoy at least coming up with at least reasons for the recommendations. And of course, all the 3 worst that he picked I like anyway. So, what can you do?
