I honestly think this might become the norm they are probably betting that people would rather have two half seasons rather than a couple new eps then a rerun then two weeks for "Special Programming" then more new shows. Personally I think everyone should take the HBO approach and play the entire season in one run then take a year off and bring out the next full season.

mifuneral to be perfectly fair the only reason the first season is six hours longer is because of the inclusion of the Miniseries otherwise it would only be 2 1/4 hours longer. But I think if the Sci-Fi channel wants to start doing this then they need to start doing 24 episode orders so that they can two runs of 12 eps.

Well hell, since Sin City isn't coming out now, I think I'll end up getting the Season 2.0 set. I'll have some extra money after all.

Sin City isn't cancelled, and did noone look at the link I posted with the lower price direct from Universal's website?

So are you saying that the MSRP is really only $38 or that they're having it on sale? If it was only $38 and I can get it at release for like $29.99 or less, then I'd be all over it. But if they just have it on sale and B&M will be around the same price, I'm not impressed. Still better than HBO prices

Don't know if all this 2.0 stuff should be in its own thread now, but here's this from the bits:

Universal has announced the DVD release of SciFi's Battlestar Galactica: Season 2.0 on 12/20. The 3-disc set (SRP $49.98) will include the just aired first half of the show's second season - 10 episodes in all, plus extras. As with the first season, the episodes will be presented in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. We expect the bonus material to include all of Ron Moore's podcast commentaries, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes featurettes and an extended version of the mid-season finale, Pegasus (that according to Ron himself). FYI, the latter half of the second season debuts on SciFi in January.
Oh man, that probably just tipped the scales even at a $50 price point.

Actually, I was wrong-- it's a 5 hour difference. Season 1 has approximately 15 hours of content (including the mini) whereas s2 part 1 will have approximately 10.

I don't think that this has been answered definitively yet, so here goes.

Does the Best Buy Season 1 UK exclusive set have anything different from the Season 1 US set?

Does anyone have both to confirm?

It's missing most of the special features.

It also has a different opening song, and I believe the a/v may not be at the same quality as the regular R1 release.

Yep, I know that the UK version has fewer special features. But does it have anything at all that is not on the US release?

It's the 2.0 thing that worries me too.

If they called it 'Season 2 - Part 1' I'd buy it without hesitation, but 2.0 means that there's going to be a 2.5 which will include the entire season and maybe even more extras.

The "UK" version is just the Season 1 Episodes.

The "normal" version is the Season 1 Episodes, plus the Mini-series. However IIRC, not all the extras from the seperate mini-series release were carried over.

I picked up the "normal" version myself. I think most people here who had not picked up the mini-series release did the same.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I didn't find an answer in any of the dozens of BSG threads here and after an hour spent Googling I thought I'd post this here:

I'm planning on getting the "normal" 5-Disc US release of Battlestar Galactica: Season One as a gift and I have a question regarding the English language subtitles.

I have noticed on some sites that the set is supposed to have standard English subtitles, some sites say it has English subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH) and some sites claim it has no English subtitles at all. Can anyone who has the set confirm what type of English subtitles there are, if any?

Also, if the subtitles are for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, are they the type that on occasion are on three lines or more and move depending on the position of the person speaking on the screen? (If two people are talking at opposite ends of the screen, the subtitles change from the left side to the right of the screen depending on who's talking?).

The person I'm getting the set for needs the English subtitles to better understand the technical aspects of this brilliant show and isn't a big fan of the way SDH subtitles are presented as they take up a big part of the screen. I'm going for the US release over the separate Region 2 releases for the wealth of extras found on the R1.

The person lives in Europe so Closed Captions aren't supported by the TV's, so that's not an option.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

These are the kind that are placed under the characters, sometimes 3 lines. As far as I know, ALL of Universal's DVDs have SDH subs, which means they are like closed captions, but instead are on the subtitle track. So it's not exactly what you were hoping for, I'm afraid. Hope that helps.

You can expect it before season 3 premieres in October. On a related note, they're starting the season 3 shoot today!

My question is do they plan to release a box set called Season 2 part 2? I'ld like to have all of Season 2 in one combined boxed set.

It's been asked before in this thread, and I seriously doubt they will go to all the trouble and expense of designing a new case, when it's far more likely they'll just make another "half-pack", and maybe, some stores will sell the two shrinkwrapped together.

I'm still waiting to see what they decide to do about the half season sets. Particularly, if they will give the first half a price break. When that first came out, it was $40, which was too much, but now I think it can be found for $30, which ia a bit better but still a bit too high for me.

I think it's been rumored that the second half willl be out in early Sept - a long time I know let's hope it comes sooner than that.

Any news on season 2.5 or a complete season 2 box set? Season three just started production in April, so if they're going to release the rest of season 2 in conjunction with the fall premiere of S3, they're going to have to announce something fairly soon.
