Maybe I missed this somewhere in this thread, but is the Best Buy exclusive set Anamorphic Widescreen or Full Frame?

It's anamorphic 1.78 widescreen. Why wouldn't it be? The show was filmed in 16x9.

Since there have been discussions here about several shows known to have been filmed in 16x9 HD but released 4x3, I think it's a fair question. I believe the first season of CSI was one IIRC.

OK, but didn't they re-release that in WS?

I heard a rumor to that effect, but I'm not for certain. Regardless, it should have been done right the first time.

And if sessa had heard about something like CSI, that would have given him cause to question BSG.

The Digital Bits has a new review up for the set. Sounds great however I'm a little upset at one point in particular...

"Save for the audio commentary, NONE of the extras that were included on the previous miniseries DVD release are here."

Shame on me I guess, I sold my miniseries dvd assuming that the extras would be ported over.

you're not the only one i sold my disc thinking that the extras would be ported over to this new release. i could've sworn that i read somewhere in this very forum that the extras will all be carried over... was i wrong then?

I actually didn't screw this one up! Even though I knew the price would drop, I held off waiting to get this question answered. Of course, I blew it with Tarzan though.

So both the 40-minute Battlestar Galactica: The Lowdown and 20 minutes of deleted scenes from the miniseries are not included in this set? That sucks. I guess I'll try and pick up the original miniseries from eBay. Thanks, Universal.

That sucks, but it's not worth a double-dip for me - as long as the quality of the mini-series doesn't suffer because of compression.

I'll probably rent the original mini-series to watch the extras I'll be missing.

It is the same. As far as I can tell, everything about disc 1 of the season set is identical to side 1 / disc 1 of the miniseries release. Even the menus are the same, with the exception that on the season set disc the color scheme is changed from red to blue, and the "Flip disc over" text has been removed from the Bonus Features menu.

No, disc 5 contains Battlestar Galactica - The Series: The Lowdown, and a set of deleted scenes from season one of the series. Neither of these is the same as what is found on the miniseries release.

Ebay? Actually, looking at the completed auctions, you might save a couple bucks...

But it is $20 at DDD and about the same at BB.

Yeah, but MSRP of $50 for 10 episodes? I think I may wait to see them release a full season 2 set next year.

I don't like how they split this up into "sub-seasons" if you will. I wonder if next year they will release both Season 2 part 1 and Season 2 part 2 together? I would rather have it complete.

A little pricey for 1/2 a season!!

Okay so I'm completely clueless here..........what is the difference between the best buy exclusive disks and the normal season one set?? What is the benifit to getting the BB exclusive set and who's to say they will be released in "exclusive" sets everytime?

EDIT* it couldn't possibly only be the "you can buy it earlier" thing right cause that's just stupid.

Somebody at DVDAnswers posted this link.

Lower price, and that's before the usual store discounts.

Read through the thread I think all the info is buried in here somewhere. Essentially though you're right... it was the "just stupid" reason. The same thing was done w/ Space Above and Beyond, although in the case of BG the set @ BB contains FEWER features than the full set (for SAAB they are theoretically going to be the same).

WRT this 1/2 season junk I hope that doesn't become the norm I also hope the do eventually release the full season later.

lol thanks nemein i actually skimmed the thread before posting but didn't see anything that differentiated the two. now that the series is airing here before it does in the U.K. basically proves that BB won't be doing this again so if you care at all about the way your collection stacks up on your shelf it would be a bad decision to buy the BB exclusive cause there won't be any more of these exclusives. I'm sure people in the U.K. will get an "Exclusive U.S. Version!!!!" come next year though

As far as the selling half seasons thing is concerned it's basically the same deal pay a bunch of money for it now then we'll repackage it and sell it as a whole season put another extra in there and get you to buy it again. Shit like this really drives me insane.

God I love this show.......why does it have to be whored out like this?

Sci Fi Channel deserves at least some of the blame. They're the ones who choose to split seasons in half while they're airing and then ignorantly bring them back "for the next season" (when in reality it's nothing more than the rest of the previous season).

But even if they're just releasing the first 10 episodes of s2, why does it have to have the same MSRP as the s1 set, which is 6 hours longer? That's just unfair.

This half-season stuff sucks. With this and Family Guy doing it, I hope others don't follow suit.
