Revenge of the Nerds?

OK, so there was a thread a while back asking about 20th anniversary editions of Karate Kid and Revenge of the Nerds.

We got the Kid. Any news about the Nerds???

I see the review for the current flipper disc with ROTN 2 is pretty favorable. I did see it at a local Best Buy recently for $14.99. Is there much point in waiting for a new release of the first film, or is waiting going to be pointless?

ROTN is a movie I must add to my collection. I'm tired of seeing it edited and chopped up on TV. The last time I saw it - I think on UPN - it was just absurd what they did with the party scene where UN comes to the house. Not only were things edited out, scenes actually repeated! A lot! It was ridiculous!

darkhawk 02-25-05 09:04 AM

If they release the first nerds, i'll get it. This way, I can get rid of my vhs copy

DJ_Longfellow 02-25-05 09:49 AM

I would LOVE a 20th anniversary or any nwe edition. The current one is ok.....nothing too exciting.

This is like my FAVORITE movie, so I hope they release a new DVD

SWR 1 02-25-05 09:58 AM

ROTN is one of my favorite comedies as well. I would definitely double dip for an SE or Anniversary Edition with some nice extras.

just a heads up but they have that ROTN flip disk packaged with Porky's I and II flip disc for 14.99 at my local costco store. 4 cheesy 80s flicks for 15.00 bucks is a great deal.

Altimus Prime 02-25-05 10:25 AM

I just picked up the ROTN double feature at Best Buy.

Thanks for the Costco tip, but I don't have a membership there and have an aversion to paying to shop. Just don't like the concept. And Porky's doesn't interest me as much as ROTN, anyway.

Even though I used to be a Costco member. My membership expired last year and I haven't gotten around to renewing.

I feel the same way about Porkys. I've seen it and I think I've seen Porkys II but I don't care to own either.

Altimus Prime 02-25-05 02:13 PM

I hope ROTN is as good as the review indicates.

I hope it's not a case of an older review with lower expectations giving it high marks. Seems sometimes what happens is a new release of a movie comes out, it's praised for having such improved video and/or audio while slamming the quality of the earlier release, even though the earlier release got high marks at the time.

RevKarl 02-25-05 03:20 PM

Most Costcos now have a collection of Fox catalog title three-packs for $18... Of direct interest to subscribers of this thread is the Porkies 1 & 2/Revenge of the Nerds 1 & 2/Bachelor Party package.

Revenge of the Nerds isn't going to look any better on standard DVD. For a film of it's age and statue, it looks good.

Squirrel God 02-25-05 08:14 PM

ROTN does look okay on DVD, but the soundtrack really needs some remastering. It's pretty poor.

kgrogers1979 02-26-05 02:02 PM

I want to see ROTN 3 & 4 on DVD as well.

it's something called technology

DJ_Longfellow 12-20-05 11:16 AM

Sorry to bump an OLD thread, but is there any news on a new Revenge of the Nerds set? I would LOVE to see one

Lastdaysofrain 12-20-05 01:51 PM

I believe they are doing a remake of it that's supposed to come out next year. I figure any "Special Edition" would probably come out then.

This is easily one of my all time favorite films.

I still can't quite believe it :(

Are the going to get Johnny Knoxville to play Booger? This is going to be a damn shame of a movie like the Dukes of Hazzard.

Alan Smithee 12-20-05 07:28 PM

Warning- there's a couple shots CUT from Revenge Of The Nerds where they find the house for rent- they pick up the "For Rent" sign and bring it back to the gym, then they all go parading back to the house. Supposedly it was cut because there was a real phone number on the sign. I know this movie by heart so I was furious- picked it up on release day before I heard about it too!

Kim Olav Svines 12-21-05 05:44 AM

I would love to see a full-blown special edition gift set. Wouldn't it be nice if they included a pen-set and glasses? And maybe a mini-shirt like it was done with the Seinfeld set

DJ_Longfellow 12-21-05 09:30 AM

They could have a GREAT full-blown gift set....my Fav' movie ever. I didn't even know about the remake though. I heard about it, but never thought anything came of it.

DRG 12-21-05 10:17 AM

Anyone want to take any guesses what they will call the inevitable SE?

"Lambda Lambda Lambda Edition"
"We are the Champions Edition"
"Liquid Heat Edition"
"We've Got Bush Edition"
"NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDS! Edition"

What if C-A-T really spelled Dog Edition"

LoPan5705 12-22-05 08:07 AM

I think Fox will do something similar to what Warner did with the Police Academy collection. Fox could put out a box set of all 4 movies w/the 1st movie being a loaded Special Edition while, the others have a few features, like an ongoing documentary or something. As of right now the only way to get 3/4 is to buy the VHS copy from Fox's "Selections" Catalog.

I checked it out at IMDB and apparently one of the writers/producers of Freaks and Geeks in on writing credit.

Lastdaysofrain 12-22-05 08:53 AM

The fact that someone from Freaks and Geeks is involved seems to be the only reason I'm not completely outraged at the remake. I figure they're going to do it anyway, so someone with some talent might as well be involved to make it as painless as possible.

dvd_luver 12-22-05 01:21 PM

I don't need a SE, I love the current flipper dvd. I get my nerd fix whenever I feel like it.

Anyone else know of any other missing scenes or cut shots from the DVD? I own the video and want to upgrade to the DVD but not if it's missing scenes.

PixyJunket 04-20-06 11:07 AM

It's about a micro-second or two where a phone number is visible on the sign, nothing major, nothing to bother about.

Yeti4623 04-21-06 02:52 PM

I don't know about the DVD, but my VHS "Fox Selections" version, also cuts out the "Why do they call you booger?" scene, for some reason.

Jack Straw 04-22-06 11:49 PM

"Panty-Raid"

joliom 04-23-06 04:14 AM

I wonder why Fox never released a Double Feature DVD with RotN Pts. III & IV? In any case, I don't give a flip about any of the sequels, so I'd prefer a loaded SE of the original all by itself. Same for the original Porky's (they could do a new Double Feature to accompany it with Porky's II & III if people want the whole collection).

I have the same VHS and I just noticed that scene missing. Also as previously mentioned the scene where Lewis finds the house is shortened as on the DVD. Does anyone know if the CBS Fox VHS version of this film is cut like the Fox Selections video?

TexasDVDer 12-20-06 10:55 AM

Apparently there are no English subtitles, so I guess I'll pass on this one.

UAIOE 12-20-06 02:13 PM

That SE sounds pretty good.

I hope that commentary is a good one.

Bacon 12-20-06 04:32 PM

Hell yeah

I'll be getting the box set, I liek all 4 movies, yes even Nerds IV and 2 days after by Birthday so I'll have the money :D

DVDFreaker 12-20-06 05:06 PM

Sweet! I will also be getting the boxset even part 3 and 4 isn't as good as the first 2

dsa_shea 12-20-06 05:41 PM

Gotta get my pocket pro...uh...I mean wallet out.

Probably CC though no?

I'll pass if it doesn't have a remastered transfer and/or audio (sound on the existing release isn't that great). Not bothered about the extras or the crappy sequels.
