Tough to say as I blind buy many, but one of these I guess:

Alphaville
Out of the Past
The Third Man
A Night at the Opera

All changed my film watching perspective.

UHF and VIDEODROME: CRITERION COLLECTION. UHF I laughed at constantly and Videodrome was a strange but good film. Now, if only Criterion could get the rights to FLETCH...

To narrow it down to one:

The Office

Someone else mentioned Apollo 13. My wife is a bit younger than I, not a space buff, and somehow missed this when it came around in theaters. We watched it and she enjoyed it greatly. She was floored when I informed her afterward that it was a true story.

Amelie

First movie that comes to mind. I had heard so much about it. Picked it up on a recommendation and was surprised by how much I liked it.

I almost forgot that this was a blind buy for me as well. I had become such a big fan of Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show, I had to see where it was all coming from. Such a classic.

No doubt about it, and I doubt anything will top it as a blind buy: Firefly

I mostly buy films on DVD I am already familiar with, but of the few blind buys I have done, These are my favorites:

Lost in La Mancha
Mayor of the Sunset Strip
Paths of Glory
Punch-Drunk Love
This Is Spinal Tap
Wings of Desire
Ju-on (2000)
Saddest Music in the World

So hard to pick just one! I keep going back and forth between all these as my favorite blind buy. I must admit, they were all informed decisions and not bought on a whim or based on cover art alone.

That's easy: the complete Spaced set and Shaun of the Dead. I always dread blind buys, especially imported blind buys, but I couldn't be happier with these two.

Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai

Still one of the favorite movies in my collection - and some may berate me for this opinion - my favorite Jarmusch film.

My best would probably be "The Bourne Identity" I really liked it and couldn't wait to see "Bourne Supremacy" in the theaters.

My favorite Netflix of a movie I never had seen would have to be "Before Sunrise." I'll be buying it one day I'm sure.

I Agree. Firefly — The Complete Series was the best blind buy I will ever likely get. I first looked into it because so many people here were buying it during the DDD sale.

Runner up for me would be Babylon 5.
