What is your best blind buy ever?
Hey, I don't do many blind buys anymore because I am getting poor from doing just that.
I have a lot of great blind buys, but my best would have to be Adaptation. I mostly bought it because it was super cheap, a superbit and I heard it was Nic Cage's best performance in a long time. Not only is this one of my favorite movies now, this is also my home theatre demo disc. |
Alias.
This was more expensive of a blind-buy that I should have made, but I really like the show, at least now I do. |
The Dead Zone tv series. I don't have cable and kept hearing how great this series was, so gave it a shot and have really enjoyed it.

I have a tie.
American History X and Napoleon Dynamite. Both floored me on how much I enjoyed them. |
So many. Over 90% of my movies are blind buy so I'd have to go with Leon: The Professional as my all-time best.
|
Freaks and Geeks.
|
<i>Buffy The Vampire Slayer<i> (TV) by far.
|
24: Season 1
|
There are many Blind Buys at the moment, that I haven't watched 84 in fact! But recently,Leon-The Professional: DE & Fifth Element:UE & AVP-Alien vs Predator are highlights:)

Hero.

Definitely Buffy The Vampire Slayer S1 set. Picked it up at Best Buy one day after seeing two episodes on TV and was hooked after watching one DVD episode. I own all seven seasons of Buffy and all four (available) seasons of Angel, with S5 on pre-order. Well worth the money.

Ikiru, Spirited Away, and All The Real Girls

I'd have to say the Warner Film Noir box. Introduced me to the genre, and I loved all the films.
There are plenty of other great ones (hell, most of my movies are blind buys, therefore most of my favorites are too), but this is the one that stands out in my memory since I paid $40 for it, and it was a total blind buy. |
I'd have to say The Adventures of Robin Hood. I'd never really heard much about it before other than people comparing Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves negatively to it. I really only got it because the WB Special Edition looked nice. I figured it would be old and dated now, something to be "appreciated" but not really enjoyed, but boy was I wong about that. After seeing it, I think it's now one of favorite Action/Adventure movies of all time, right up there with Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

Fight Club and 24.
|
A lot of mine have been blind buys since I don't go to the theater any more ;) Not sure it's the best but the most recent one is "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow". Some others that come to mind are "Last Samurai", "Big Fish", "Miracles" (a Jackie Chan film), "Pitch Black", and "Zero Effect"
|
Judgment at Nuremburg.
I thought it'd be sorta dry and have dated pacing. It however was just as engrossing as Schindler's List. |
Donnie Darko
Alias S1(got about 5 eps to go :D ) |
Band of Brothers........glad I enjoyed it...whew.
|
Buffy
|
Dark City. Especially for 6 bucks.

What is your best blind buy ever?
Blind Fury
|
it's a toss up between Sopranos, The Wire, and Freaks and Geeks
|
Firefly. And I got it for $19.99 in the Suncoast mis-price deal!
