Yeah the original disc was excellent. I'll be sticking with that.

Hmm. Not sure about double dipping on this one. The original helped set the standard for special editions, as well as great commentaries. Sounds like a repackaging with a rename - X.

The only difference from the vague details so far is the deleted footage incorporated back into the film. Which, those that have already seen it(on the original release) can attest to the reason why it was deleted. Definitely not something I want to sit through again.

I don't think it's as simple as just the deleted footage inserted back in.

It seems to me Smith and Mosier went back and tightened the film up/moved things around - MALLRATS being the only film they didn't edit themselves.

I'm looking forward to this disc. But I want a CLERKS X type package of goodies too.

Title: Mallrats
Starring: Shannen Doherty
Released: 20th September 2005
SRP: $26.98

Further Details
Universal has released early details on a new 10th Anniversary Extended Edition of Mallrats which stars Shannen Doherty, Jeremy London, Jason Lee, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. This single-disc release will carry both the 1 hour 36 minute theatrical edition, along with an all-new extended edition (runtime to be confirmed). I'm afraid that's just about all we know at the moment, although we can confirm that it will be available to own from the 20th September, priced at around $26.98. Stay tuned for further details.

from davis dvd

Universal Studios has just announced Mallrats X: 10th Anniversary Extended Edition for release on September 20th. The single-disc will include both the theatrical edition and a new extended cut of the film in, presumably, anamorphic widescreen (with any luck a better transfer than the previous release). Aside from this, not much else has been revealed yet so stay tuned. Retail will be $26.98. Hopefully I'll see the sailboat this time.

I'll buy it for the new commentary alone.

No TV cut makes me sad.

this is a case, when i wish they would have passed the movie over to criterion for a full blown treatment. I see a flipper on the horizon, and doubt Kevin is getting everything he wants on the disc

If it includes everything and more from the original release, it seems like it should be a two-disc release...? I may double-dip, depending on price.

A single disc just doesn't sound right with all of these extras.

Universal's press site must be wrong on this.

But again, it could be a DVD-18.

I was hoping for the TV cut.

However, all those extras do sound worth it.

However, if Universal goes the DVD-18 route similar to Orgazmo.

According to Kevin:

"Here's how the TWO DISC set lays out, thus far. Naturally, this is subject to change.

I'll mark what's new (stuff made for this edition) and what's old (from the previous DVD release).

DISC 1

THEATRICAL CUT (OLD)
· ORIGINAL ON SET CAST INTERVIEWS (NEW)
· A BRIEF Q&A WITH KEVIN SMITH (NEW)
· THE ERECTION OF AN EPIC - THE MAKING OF MALLRATS (NEW)
· BLOOPERS (NEW)
· VIEW ASKEW'S LOOK BACK AT MALLRATS (OLD)
· FEATURE COMMENTARY (OLD)
· THEATRICAL TRAILER (OLD)
· THE GOOPS "BUILD ME UP BUTTERCUP" (OLD)

DISC 2
· KEVIN AND SCOTT'S INTRODUCTION (NEW)
· MALLRATS RE-CUT (NEW)
· MALLRATS CAST REUNION Q&A SESSION (NEW)

There are also three new Easter Eggs buried in those discs as well. Sadly, due to space constraints, we had to lose the optional angle on the old commentary track from the previous "Rats" DVD, and there's no new commentary track either (again, we ran out of space). Regardless, these discs are PACKED!

I think the audience would agree with me there? "

Either way, I am all over this.

Ran out of space? Bullshit. It's just an alternate audio track.

Sigh. I bet the Q&A is just a bunch of Jay & Bob morons asking to suck Kevin's dick or the like.

Boo.

Exactly, it's a bunch of bullshit. They could've put the audio commentary track in 1.0 Mono if they wanted to save space.

While I'm still buying the set, this still should've been a three-disc set. They should've had the theatrical and re-edit cuts on their own respective discs and have moved all the extras onto disc three (if they weren't going to include a theatrical cut).

Although the extras look good I will wait for some reviews to decide on this guy. I'm in the same boat as The Big Labowski on this one where I am getting pretty fed up with re-releases. Mallrats, as stated, was originally PACKED. The fact that they didn't do a new commentary is a bit of a drag, to tell you the truth, as those are usually the best part of Kevin's disc. The multiangle track being ditched, too, leaves me wanting to keep my old disc.

A tv cut was recently on WE or some channel. The amount of voice dubs was insane Jay was pretty much dubbed over completely instead of small silences for some reasons. Plenty of cuts and such. A Small featurette on this could of explained it and been fun but this release looks like crap. Don't buy into the view askew bullshit it keeps sucking your pockets dry!
