I really don't understand why Fox can't just make a great anamorphic transfer for this and The Abyss (as well as some others...Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Strange Days, for example) without having to consult with Cameron. Sure, it would be nice to have a full blown special edition for True Lies (and maybe just a Cameron commentary for The Abyss to add to the current version), but just an anamorphic transfer for these would be greatly appreciated.

True Lies is the one SE I'm still eagerly awaiting. Non-anamorphic transfers suck.

Yes, I don't understand Fox's reluctancy to re-release the titles mentioned as anamorphic.

My thoughts exactly. My $'s ready and waiting Fox...

Maybe they'll be one of the first waves of Blue-Rays?

this and...

The King and I - anamorphic
Oklahoma! - improved TODD-AO print (the just released SE supposedly sucks and wasn't given a deluxe reconversion from a cleaner print)
Cleopatra - 65mm print

The best part about this is that I was looking for it on Deep Discount DVD last weekend, thinking I could get it for 20% off. When I couldn't find it, I started searching other sites fearing it was going OOP. I was relieved when I found it on Buy.com, and promptly ordered it.

NOW I find this thread and learn it's not even anamorphic.

I'd say there's a good chance of it. Fox did put out a D-Theater edition. It's very strange that they didn't bother to follow up with an anamorphic DVD too.

Good news... I'm still skeptical, though. Hopefully it'll all come together.

Looks like I'll probably be holding on to my Japanese DTS edition.

Forgive my ignorance, but who is Jacob Rubinstein?

Why? Has anything said this will or won't have DTS?

Don't these rumor-creators know enough to at least pick a credible date?

If it's true, all I need is a 16x9 transfer and a DTS-ES track and I'll be happy.

Yeah, and they need to get off their asses with The Abyss, Home Alone, and all of the Planet of the Apes sequels too.

From what I can tell, Jacob Rubinstein is a contributor to the web site from which the information was taken. Sounds like he is a DVD producer, and is also the webmaster of an unofficial site about actress Sarah Douglas (Ursa of the Superman films), who co-starred with Schwarzengger in Conan the Destroyer. He may actually be the one preparing the new release of True Lies.

Bonus features: Interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron, Footage from the premiere, Making of-Featurette, deleted scenes, trailers and more!

Well, sounds okay. But feels more ho-hum. Nothing particularly outstanding. No Cameron commentary? Looks like an average re-release. Long as it's 16:9, though, it should be fine.

But it won't be in the right aspect ratio.
