Considering that nearly 1 in 5 americans are in credit card debt i find the answers in this thread to be highly unlikely!...not to be a curmudgeon or anything, but all of near 20 have said no when stats say 4 have to be...that is just impossible.

Same here. Still owe a lot on mortgage. Why anyone would choose to hold on to some high interest rate credit card debt is beyond me. They must be young and naive.

scott1598: I'm guessing most people in debt are either in denial or don't want to advertise the fact. I know I wouldn't.

I pay off my credit cards in full every month. They must hate me because I never earn them any money, only take their rewards ;)

PopcornTreeCt 10-14-04 04:08 PM

I have credit card debt but its not entirely because of DVDs. Mostly because of work I had to have done on my car.

cultshock 10-14-04 04:47 PM

My only debt is normal: mortgage and car loan. I pay off my credit cards in full every month.

Anyone who gets in debt from buying too many DVDs is an idiot. If such people actually exist, they would do well to stand back and take a good hard look at their priorities in life, and straighten them out.

Or just young and naive (i.e. young and stupid), as I'm sure many DVD Talkers are.

When I was 18, and first started opening credit cards, I admit, I went CRAZY. In one year I think I racked up about 15K in debt. I figured it out by my sophmore year in college that this was not the smartest thing to do, and started much better money management.

Now, a decade, a wife, mortgage, and two kids later, I better damn well have it figured out by now. ;)

Yep, plus there's a rewards program

Wow, I can think of so many other things worth going into debt over - never something so frivolous as DVDs.

Testy. Testy.

I find this response to his question quite humorous coming from someone who decided to ask in an open forum about other people's personal debts, if any.

And before you reply about how "no one was forced to answer or post", allow me to present a pre-emptive retort by saying that, by that rationale, the rude reponse you gave to a truly comperable question to the one you were asking should have received equally rude responses, no?

Funny that none of the responses to your question were replyed to with rude answers. In fact, the only rude response on this board, was yours.

Brian Shannon 10-14-04 06:06 PM

No, not even close.

matome 10-14-04 06:10 PM

Nope, thankfully, I'm able to pay my credit cards off in full each month.

Yeah, good point. Perhaps I was being a bit harsh. When I was 18, I spent a lot of money on frivolous stuff too (of course, I lived with my parents and had no real expenses). But, if I racked up a big debt buying CDs, video games, old toys, booze, etc, (DVDs weren't invented yet, or I would have bought them too) my parents probably would have kicked me out of the house. I guess you learn how to spend your money wisely when you get older. (like me :( )

I don't consider my response rude nor was I asking HOW much people were in debt. Just whether or not they were. If they decide to throw out a figure, that is their business.

And me, unfortunately. Funny thing is, I think a large amount of my spending went to VHS back then. The more things change...

I was just curious how many of you are in credit card debt over buying DVDs. I buy a lot of them, but always pay cash. Just wondering HOW MUCH in debt some of you are?

Jackskeleton 10-14-04 06:31 PM

I think that if you don't have the money for dvd's then you shouldn't be buying them. 1 out of 5 americans may be in major credit card debt, but I would say that if you are getting yourself deeper then you can get out of because and only because dvds then you really need to rethink your planning.

as for me. I may have credit cards, but I don't write any checks I can't cash.

asianxcore 10-14-04 06:37 PM

I only spend money I have. so I don't have any credit cards. all of my funds for DVDs come out of my paychecks from work.

So, which is it?

aintnosin 10-14-04 06:41 PM

DVDs? No....

Shiny new plasma TV? Not yet....

LasVegasMichael 10-14-04 06:41 PM

Sorry, bboisvert, I didn't notice that you already had it covered. ;)

man*machine 10-14-04 06:46 PM

I only use credit cards for all my DVD purchases because I hate spending any of my own money on DVD's. I only pay the minimum payment each month on all my cards and have about $15,000 in debt right now for DVD's alone. I keep signing up for more credit cards so that I can keep up with all the DVD's I want each month. My goal is to get every DVD I want as fast as possible, as long as I can keep the credit cards going, and then go bankrupt.

Just kidding.

Kakkarat 10-14-04 06:52 PM

I pay for most everything with my Discover. Gotta love cash back, especially when I can use it at Amazon. But I pay it all off every month. Only debt is the mortgage.
