On Laserdisc? 2001: A Space Odyssey. I think it was 1994.

On DVD? Seven Samurai. July, 1998. The original edition with the restoration doc.

Hopeful projection for Blu-Ray? The Films of Val Lewton box set.

Same here, except I got mine this year and it was a used copy.

I can't believe nobody mentioned The Beastie Boys, although I'm not sure it's a really popular title. The ABSOLUTE ONLY REASON I bought a DVD player in the first place. I remember it was delayed, so I held off buying a player. I remember telling my wife when it came out "I'm not going to buy many DVDs, just only special movies." Although I really don't have a big collection now, especially compared to those on this site.

Same here. Charade is one of my favorite films, so I wanted a copy. I noticed there were a couple of versions of it out there. After doing some online research, I went with the Criterion despite the higher price figuring the quality would be better than with any other version.

I got it some time in 2001, pretty soon after I got my DVD player.
