What was your 1st Criterion

Seeing as we have the "how many do you have" thread, I thought it's be fun to see what your first one was and when you got it.

Mine:

Carnival of Souls, got it in '00.

Life of Brian was my first. I was a big Python nut back in 2000, and it was the only special edition around.

clckworang 10-03-04 10:57 PM

Wow, that is a complete blast from the past. I can't remember the first one because it was too long ago, but I know some of the first Criterions I bought were The Killer, Seven Samurai and Amarcord and The Seventh Seal.

bis22 10-03-04 11:01 PM

Hmm, that's a hard one to remember. I think it was Robocop.

My first Criterion (I believe) was Monty Python and the Holy Grail on laserdisc.

My first Criterion DVD was Armageddon

seymouru 10-03-04 11:08 PM

The Graduate LD. I think it was in 1992.

My first was The Rock. Nice story behind it too, it was my first DVD lot that I got on Ebay, a 40 DVD lot where the average broke out to be only $4 a piece. Of the titles, 34 were great ones that I have kept and the other 6 I have simce sold and for better than the $4 a piece. The Rock was just listed and there was no picture hence I had no idea it was the Criterion version, yet alone at the time(about 16 months ago when I got my first DVD player) I had no idea what the Criterion Collection was. Quite a find and in mint condition like the rest of the lot.

feloosa 10-03-04 11:20 PM

this is spinal tap 1998

darkside 10-03-04 11:24 PM

This is Spinal Tap. Didn't even know what the Criterion Collection was. Shows the importance of having some more mainstream films in the collection.

Rammsteinfan 10-03-04 11:30 PM

Robocop in '98? or whenever it first came out. Cost me $39.99 brand new back then...

milo bloom 10-03-04 11:32 PM

The Passion of Joan of Arc. I only wanted a DVD player for Star Wars and Star Trek, thank goodness for DVD forums opening my eyes.

Still don't have a lot of them, and I've only ever sold off one (Fishing With John, just too damned weird, probably should have given it another shot)

Chasing Amy....back when I first started the VHS-to-DVD transformation of my collection in late 2000.

RobCA 10-03-04 11:35 PM

Chasing Amy, back when it came out in 2000.

Rob

bluesparrow 10-03-04 11:47 PM

Robocop.

HistoryProf 10-03-04 11:49 PM

Rushmore....before I knew what a Criterion was. It was in that infamous High Fidelity two-pac at Sam's for $25 :)
