hahahaha $10 for downloadable pictures that's great!!! Guess I'll be skipping on THAT travesty.

masetodd 10-05-05 10:45 AM

BestBuy is the Satan of the electronics world. I wish movie studios would stop giving them "exclusives" and shut down this whole "only available here!" movement. I assume the Studios have some sort of $$$ deal with BestBuy to make it worth their while.

However, the whole thing reminds me of how Baseball and Football parks whore themselves out for a quick buck.

p.s. At least in the case of Office Space, the extras are somewhat substantial (if you can call a coffee mug substantial) vs. an extra 20min. DVD of fluff.

Drexl 10-05-05 10:55 AM

This makes me think of that Lewis Black bit about how the schools couldn't afford microscopes so they showed the kids a picture of a microscope.

joltman 10-05-05 11:33 AM

I find it kind of hard to belive you're paying $10 for images...if you look at that reply, the lady just says what Visual Downloads are, it seems like generic answer from people asking about Visual Downloads, not specifically the Office Space stuff.

majorjoe23 10-05-05 11:46 AM

I'm not going to pay for those pictures until someone posts a picture of what they look like.

Wannabe 10-05-05 03:47 PM

The $5 an hour Best Buy customer service rep is wrong -- lighten up.

Magnet picture frame as a download... I don't think so.

darmok 10-05-05 04:24 PM

yeah, probably an actual mini stapler, a regular sized cup, and the rest are small items. digital downloads just doesn't sound plausible for the box's sizing.

illini420 10-05-05 05:58 PM

I guess if it is just a "visual download," then what is so special and exclusive about the gift set from Best Buy?

Other sites list visual downloads as being included with the regular non-exclusive Special Edition w/ Flair for about $10 less:

http://www.dvdplanet.com/product_lis...roductid=61397

http://www.dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=685054

There's got to be something else we're missing here. Luckily we still have nearly a month to figure this one out.

Yeah, I am so confused about this release. I would like to go ahead and preorder this as I love this movie, but we need more info on that Best Buy release before I do anything.

GameGenie 10-07-05 11:19 AM

I think im gonna preorder and just hope for the best.

Once I heard about this "visual download" thing I became apprehensive. I have a feeling there's going to be some disappointment.

I'm gonna wait this one out.

joltman 10-07-05 07:37 PM

OK, I e-mailed best buy with the following e-mail:
Can you tell me what the difference is between the below two items:
Office Space
DVDhttp://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7372078&type=product&id
=29525
Office Space Extra Special Edition Exclusive
DVDhttp://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7385215&type=product&id
=1480970
Thank you

And here was the response:
Thank you for contacting Best Buy about the Office Space DVD. I'm Karen
with Customer Care.

The Special addition includes the following items that the regular DVD
does not have:

Special Features:
- Fullscreen Feature/Widescreen Feature
- Out of the Office: An Office Space Retrospective with Mike Judge
- Deleted Scenes: Peter Lies to Lumbergh, Happy Hour and Chotchkies,
Peter Goes off on Nina, and Tom's Mixed Heritage Called into Question
- Thearical Trailer
- DVD-ROM audio
- Visual downloads: Stapler, Mousepad, Coffee Mug, Magnet picture frame,
Notepad, and Pen/Pencil

Obviously, the only thing they went off of was the website. Again, proof that
customer service answers aren't always something to go off of :)

I got the same email :scratch2:

Wannabe 10-08-05 05:08 PM

Quit wasting your time trying to figure out the obvious difference between the two sets. The deluxe box is $10 more and has an actual stapler, mug, mousepad, and other various junk to clutter your shelves.

whotony 10-08-05 05:19 PM

sir, yes sir!

lamphorn 10-09-05 12:22 PM

With no commentary or SNL sketches there's no way I'm double-dipping.

And I don't blame Judge a whit. The previous DVD was a mega-hit and the new one could be if it's done well, and they expect him to do them a favor?? For free?? No one should work for free, are you kidding? They'll rake in tens of millions and he gets to feel like he did something "for the fans"? That's called getting screwed.

I bet that the visual downloads are on the DVD, but the BB gift set actually has the actual items packed in. Simple :)

Cedrock 10-11-05 03:51 PM

hopefully they dont push it back anymore i held off on getting it since late spring!

majorjoe23 10-11-05 03:55 PM

It's less than a month from release, I doubt it will be pulled now.

movieking 10-16-05 04:34 PM

I think that all of the stuff will be there as well. I would be shocked if it wasn't. Whether or not it is worth an extra $10 is another issue.

Randy Miller III 10-20-05 07:56 PM

Hey guys, just a heads up that I'll be posting a review for this disc sometime tomorrow afternoon. Just an FYI, there's actually 8 deleted scenes (not 4, as reported earlier), but they're pretty short. Anyway, the transfer looks great, while the bonus features are good if not a bit disappointing (no commentary, but the retrospective is pretty fun!). Anyway, be sure and check back tomorrow for the rest. :)

Peep 10-20-05 10:37 PM

Oops. They had this at the rental library where I work, but I didn't garb it as I assumed it was already out. Now, with the weekend ahead of me, I'm wishing that I had.

xfilekr 10-21-05 02:14 AM

Dont know if it waws posted yet but at the CC I work at I saw a tag printed for $12.99
Probably release week price

stinkeye 10-21-05 10:17 AM

DigitalBits review is up.

QuikSilver 10-21-05 11:56 AM

Just read the digitalbits review and I must say I'm very dissappointed. I was expecting a lot of extras but apparently there isn't that much. However, I'm happy that it's finally anamorphic.

Agreed. Nothing worth rebuying in my opinion other than an anamorphic transfer.. but until I have an HDTV even that's not enough to warrant the rebuy. The Digital Bits review incorrectly states the first release was full-frame only.

Doug Schiller 10-21-05 12:49 PM

Yep, this went from a must buy to a rental.

Man, these studios are really finding new ways to disappoint aren't they?

ShagMan 10-21-05 12:58 PM

I'll rebuy it just for the anamorphic transfer, but definitely disapointed in the "special features". Can't we get a commentary??

Toben 10-21-05 01:29 PM

At first I thought this was a must-buy for me too as well, but now it doesn't seem so urgent. Might get it if it's cheap enough, otherwise I'll hold off till it gets cheaper (maybe around boxing day, who knows). In the meantime, I'm thinking there's another Fox release coming out on Nov. 1 that everyone will be preoccupied with...

milo bloom 10-21-05 02:13 PM

Disappointing, but if it's a good price I'll grab it as I never bought the original waiting for the SE.

canaryfarmer 10-21-05 02:40 PM

I'll wait till I can get it closer to $7-9.

yellowbedwetter 10-21-05 06:30 PM

yeah, i might put this title off onto my "Wait until CC/BestBuy includes it in a Buy 2 for $20 deal" list.

Actually, Bill Hunt said:

The previous DVD release was in non-anamorphic letterbox widescreen and full frame only - a crime that's needed solving for years now.

CertifiedTHX 10-21-05 09:34 PM

This is a disappointment, I agree. No commentary or shorts. Seems to be the season for editions that are lesser than they could be. Tempted to pick it up; probably won't decide for sure until I'm holding the disc in my hands.

toddly6666 10-21-05 10:12 PM

I wonder if anyone else's old OFFICE SPACE DVD is similar to mine... I always thought the old Office Space DVD was anamorphic, because when I play it on my HDTV, it fills the whole screen and even looks anamorphic, not interlaced or of poor quality with any pixals showing. When I play non-anamorphic DVDs on my DVD player, the player never zooms in - it shows it as is - surrounded by a frame of black and a usual poor picture quality. Does anyone else's old OFFICE SPACE DVD do that in their DVD player? It certainly looked anamorphic to me...

Fincher Fan 10-21-05 11:27 PM

From the Bit's review:

True story: About ten years ago (pre-DVD, pre-Bits), I was doing video production and computer work for a corporate division of Mazda. [snip] A couple months later Mazda closes down the branch and lays us all off. [snip] Luckily, by a strange coincidence, I saw Office Space for the first time a few days later...
Office Space came out in 1999.

Feathers McGraw 10-21-05 11:50 PM

Would have bought it with a commentary. Another stupid studio miss.
