For the record, there's an Office Space cartoon on the Hertzfeldt/Judge presentation of "The Animation Show," along with several other Mike Judge pencil tests, and numerous other solid animated shorts. It can be had for $17 on the site. Highly recommended all around, and especially if you're looking for a look at Office Space in it's early stages.

Yeah, I mentioned this in my review of The Animation Show. It's an excellent disc!

steebo777 08-04-05 01:25 PM

I'm buying it!!!

MasterCXtreme 08-04-05 02:37 PM

I'm suprised the shorts aren't included... but maybe there's one or two on that documentary

mikeporter 08-04-05 04:02 PM

As mentioned in a thread less than a month ago my most wanted disc of the year is Office Space SE. I'm excited! :)

dsa_shea 08-04-05 05:08 PM

I hope they include the featurette: "The beating of a non-cooperative printer."

I agree. I went to a theatrical screening of the second year of The Animation Show. Don Hertzfeldt was there, and I'm a big fan...so I wanted to add a signed DVD to the ol' collection. Turns out they had these DVD's of the first Animation Show, so I picked it up as a blind buy just so I'd have a DVD for him to sign. Turned out to be one of the best blind-buys I ever made.

Here are the full details from Fox. Curiously, no mention of a commentary.

The disc will feature a new 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 track, deleted scenes (Peter Lies to Lumbergh, Happy Hour and Chotchkies, Peter Goes Off on Nina, Tom's Mixed Heritage Called Into Question), "Out of the Office: An Office Space Retrospective with Mike Judge," Visual Downloads, DVD-ROM audio and the theatrical trailer.

Retail is $19.98.

canaryfarmer 08-05-05 12:26 PM

Just reading "Tom's Mixed Heritage Called Into Question" made me giggle like a schoolgirl.

A while back--perhaps more than a year ago--it was reported that Mike Judge was hard at work on the creation of this special edition. Couple that with how long it's taken for anything official to come out, and the feeling I've had is that this was going to be quite a production.

Now that we've seen the specs, the whole thing feels a little anticlimactic. Will still buy it; it's certainly better than the current release. Just doesn't have as much in the extras department as I was expecting. Would have been great to have a commentary.

From The Digital Bits:

"Fox will release the Office Space: Special Edition (with More Flare) on 11/1. Look for the DVD to include a new anamorphic widescreen transfer, deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes documentary and audio commentary with writer/director Mike Judge. FYI, a UMD version of Office Space will also be available on 11/1."

looks like it has audo commentary

Grizzly 08-06-05 09:17 AM

Digital Bits are the only ones who list a commentary, every other site doesn't.

Thank you for this. If it does, in fact, have one, that's wonderful. The information does appear to be mixed right now. Perhaps those at The Digital Bits are the only ones to have actually confirmed it so far. Hope this holds true.

GameGenie 08-10-05 01:00 PM

I also seen Mike Judge commentary listed at another site. I realy hope he does commentary but if not ill still buy it.

digitalfreaknyc 08-10-05 01:26 PM

No DTS no sale :)

Bill Needle 08-10-05 05:25 PM

There better be a TPS report insert.

animatedude 08-12-05 03:09 PM

wohooooooooo! finally artwork added!

PixyJunket 08-12-05 03:19 PM

at the link above it lists a Retrospective with Mike Judge. Maybe this is what some were thinking would be a commentary?

Bobbin 08-12-05 03:20 PM

Nice, pretty cool artwork.

canaryfarmer 08-12-05 04:08 PM

Is the "special offers" post-it a permanent part of the artwork?

Zodo 08-12-05 04:29 PM

I sold off my old edition, so I REALLY hope there's more to this SE than some deleted scenes and some short featurette.

Also, anyone have any idea what that stupid 'special offers inside' comment means?

DrGerbil 08-12-05 04:41 PM

Is a new anamorphic transfer not enough? Because, for me at least, that's definitely sufficient to warrant a purchase...

onebyone 08-12-05 05:42 PM

I like that art. A lot. I can't wait to pick this up.

Big Worms 08-12-05 05:53 PM

Pretty cool cover.

Cameron 08-12-05 06:36 PM

they forgot to put their cover on the TPS reprort....and we're now putting cover sheets on all special edition TPS reports.

haha and the stapler

I'm definetly grabbing this for the anamorphic widescreen

jiggyblau 08-13-05 12:50 AM

Great cover. Very excited about this one...

Fincher Fan 08-13-05 12:53 AM

No. I don't think they're planning on releasing one.

theguyoverthere 08-13-05 06:15 AM

Perhaps a thread rename is in order....

steebo777 08-13-05 06:37 AM

It's actually going to arrive. I still can't believe it. I am pumped.

You mean like how they were they only ones who used to know when Star Wars was coming to DVD? -ohbfrank-

CKMorpheus 08-14-05 01:30 PM

It's about time. I hope the behind the scenes documentary is relatively comprehensive. I really wouldn't want it to be a 15 minute featurette of cast members praising other cast members.

calhoun07 08-14-05 10:53 PM

You took my A-ha

Ok, it has nothing to do with the SE DVD, but this seemed like a good place to post it!

ShagMan 08-15-05 08:10 AM

haha, that was kinda funny, matches the style of the original video too :)

CertifiedTHX 08-15-05 07:55 PM

I'm guessing this will come with a slipcase, and I wouldn't be surprised if the metal parts were embossed. Would make for a cool look.
