Got #5692 & 5693 (for a friend). Both floaters :(

Edited to add:
I opened mine and both discs were perfect. I hope the other set is okay too. I won't find out until this weekend.

Well I recieved my set today and the slip cover and case were flawless (which is rare whenever I order a disc with a slip cover from DDD) but disc 2 was a floater and badly scratched, and disc 1 was seated securely on the hub but was also badly scratched. I haven't checked to see if they play fine (I will tonight) but I still want perfect discs because that's what I payed for and I'm afraid to return this set to DDD for a replacement because of their limited availability. So what recourse do I (we) have in this situation? Since this is a widespread issue can't we demand replacement discs from the manufacturer? lastly, does anyone have the contact info for this manufacturer?

has anyone found any easter eggs? I've found 4 so far, and I heard there are about 7.

Heat 11-01-05 09:56 PM

Got mine today, Disk 1 was a floater and is pretty scratched up. I'll try watching it but if my DVD player gives me fits over it... hopefully DDD will replace it.

Canibal Holocaust - the porno movie? So when I opened up the box and showed my wife, her eyes got big and said she had seen it. I questioned her and she told me the circumstances. In the late '80s in South America where she was attending a university, her and some female classmates decided to skip class one afternoon and go see a porno. Keep in mind that this would be a pretty innocent group, strict catholic upbringing and they still followed the rules - most, or all, would have never actually had sex. So they went to a adult movie theater that only showed pornos and the movie was "Holocausto Canibal". They thought it was a strange name for a porn movie, but if that's what it was, so be it, so they went in. Of course it was the movie we're talking about, it was being shown there because I guess no mainstream theater wanted to show it. Her car was parked out front and a friend of her then boyfriend saw it, so he went in to see what was going on. Now my wife would have been mortified if her boyfriend knew she was at a porno (again, strict catholic upbringing, still followed the rules) but luckily it wasn't a porno but this movie and she could say that she knew it was just this movie.

See my above post. Send an e-mail with your concerns of the scratched disc.

Wow, watched the movie last night. Let’s just say that I’m pretty sure that their techniques are not the conventional way to get to know & film native Indian tribes. And I understand why it was being shown in the porn movie theater – or more appropriately, why a mainstream movie theater would be hesitant to show it.

As for the DVD, it froze up in four places, one bad enough that I needed to turn the DVD player off and back on & skip the bad place (due to the scratches on the DVD); I’ll send an email to the company that dta316 showed above today (thanks!), about how to replace it - it was just disk 1, disk 2 was held firm and was OK. If this was a $4 or $5 movie I could live with it, but for $21.xx (after tax) I expect the movie to play without problems.

As for the movie receiving low ratings ... well, I can see why it wasn't the Best Picture winner, but if the purpose of a movie is to make you think - I'm definately thinking about it today.

Got my disk yesterday (very fast shipping from DDD -- only a couple of days even though it was the only thing I ordered). And yes -- disk 1 was a floater. There were minor scuffs -- fast-forwarding through everything showed no defects, but I'll have to wait until the weekend to watch in detail. This is one of those movies you have to be in the right frame of mind to watch, and yesterday most definately wasn't that frame. Oddly, there were many loose small bits of plastic rattling around in the case, but no obvious place where they broke off from.

Giles 11-02-05 10:38 AM

huh, my two discs were NOT floaters, never realized that this was such a mass problem.

Cinemaddiction 11-02-05 11:00 AM

Got mine this morning, #4,464, and Disk 1 was a floater, but no damage. Beautiful packaging and disk art, and a repro poster! "Bird With the Crystal Plumage" wasn't bad either, and both compliment my MB "Zombi 2" 2 disk Ann. edition I found for $2.99.

ShagMan 11-02-05 11:03 AM

my disc 1 was a floater, but no damage was done.

My copy is on it's way from DDD and I'm preparing myself to hear that sickening sound of a rattling disc or discs when it arrives. I just hope it's playable and not completely scratched to hell. I saw a couple of copies of this at a local Borders and both copies had loose discs flying around in the packages. What gives with these DVD cases/hubs?

My copy of Porno Holocaust looks pretty good, spine wise, close to my cannibal section on the shelves.:D

Like I said before, because I bought 2 copies and had no problem...I too am surprised at the amount of floaters. Seems like most people got them. I found both sets contained firm discs and even had to use extra care removing the discs....as they were on the hub tight. I opened the 2nd copy so I could check for damage before giving it as a gift.

Are they in the menus, or the film itself? I've looked, arrowed, cursored, and what have you and found nothing.

Interesting, they must be putting different repro posters in different ones. I got a poster for the Spanish version, "Holocausto Canibal".

Thanks for the info!

On another note... where are the easter eggs?

asianxcore 11-02-05 09:08 PM

Disc 2 easter eggs that I've found:

1. Debbie Does Dallas Trailer/Porn Trailer.
Go to Kerman bio, and everytime you hit "next" on his bio, when your cursor is highlighting "menu" when you get to the Debbie Does Dallas poster, hit down.

2. Ruggero eating at a convention.
Go to the Bio of the director. Keep hitting down when you highlight "menu" a couple of pages in you'll find it.

3. World Premiere/World Tour 2001 of Cannibal Holocaust
go to Production Credits and do the same as above, when you highlight one of "menu" icons hit down on your remote.

4. Cult Con 2000 Footage
On Disc 2's main menus, keep hitting left until you get the skull on the bloody pike on your screen.

has anyone found more? :)

That's what I got, guess I should have specified.

Brent L 11-03-05 11:50 AM

I got mine from DDD today, and the second disc was a floater, but luckily the disc was still in perfect condition. Mine is #659 if you care.

I, uh, don't quite know what to make of the cover of the DVD, heh.

Giles 11-03-05 11:59 AM

getting back to the technical attributes of this DVD - I was frankly surprised at the transfer - viewing it in 16X9 on my Samsung HiDef tv is quite startling - the print is clean and exceedling sharp.

 in my book.

ShagMan 11-03-05 12:39 PM

yeah, the transfer was VERY sharp and clean, I was surprised too.

Does anyone know of any other BM's that are carrying this besides borders and suncoast? I tried the 4 that were in my area and they were all sold out.....
