SPOILER BELOW!
From the London Free Press:
On the feature-length commentary for the film, Lucas tries to explain why Christensen appears as the younger Anakin, without actually mentioning the actor's name or detailing how it was done (face replacement is now a simple process in the age of digital computer effects).
"As we get to the end of the movie, as he joins the force, he is able to retain his original identity," Lucas says of Christensen's character.
And the character's "original identity" is not as Darth Vadar, Lucas says, "but it was his identity as he was -- when he died as Anakin Skywalker."

I read the article on the home page of DVD talk. I was disapointed about the deleted scenes. Surely they could of put a few in. I guess we'll have to wait for the next format until we can see them.

In the end, all six movies should flow fairly well, and that, I believe is the ultimate goal of George Lucas.

I don't really care either way, as the changes don't bother me much, and many I actually like.

So the good Anakin didn't die in Episode III as Lucas claims. He died in ROTJ in the company of his son.

That's what I figure. Frankly, the younger ghost really undermines Anakin's sacrifice at the end of ROTJ. I was always under the impression that Luke was right and that there was still good left in Anakin, and that the good side of him was able to defeat the Emperor and save his son.

It is really unfortunate that Lucas will work really hard, string 6 films together, and have one of the next-to-final images make audiences go "Huh? WTF? That doesn't make sense..."

Anyway, the changes aren't that bad, the only really crappy one is the ending edit with Anakin. Everything else looks ok, I guess....

While there may have been good left in Anakin as an old man, the fact is he was tainted. The Hayden-era was the last time he was "pure"
