Thanks for the suggestions. I have the Se7en Platinum Edition, but I guess I put it wrong into the catalog. And I agree, Eurotrip is for me, saw it in theaters. Ill have to check out the others though.

ok, i'm not really good at giving suggestion on people's collection... but ehre it goes:

ivelostr2
it seems like you'd need John Carpenter's The THING & escape from NY SE.... also you got Superman 2 but not the original?
more Dirty Harry would be cool too, especially the original

& you got the OOP Flash Gordon... cool :D

checkin your want list, seems to me that you like drama genre...

don't know if it helps or not
just a suggestion

ChrisHicks 06-30-04 02:23 PM

I'm a horror movie junkie. as soon as a few of my bills disappear I am going to go all out and buy a ton more horror films. I just keep forgeting all the titles I want to get. I guess I should use the wishlist at dvdaf more.

BlackBeauty92 06-30-04 02:36 PM

"cannibal hookers"??

 interesting :D

Wow, nice collection. Anyone who's got Wilco, SRV, Foo Fighters, and Zeppelin in their music DVD collection is an instant friend of mine :D. The films themselves are a great all-around selection.

Also, what are some good sci-fi movies that I'm missing?

Hmmm okay, some sci-fi...

2001: A Space Odyssey - The granddaddy of sci-fi epics, though not everyone's cup 'o tea.

Dark City - Intriguing premise... and Jennifer Connelly :D

Minority Report - I really liked this movie. The art direction is top notch.

Armegeddon - Many don't like it but I thought it was fun movie... and the Criterion version has great extras.

I'm a big fan of those monster movies from the 50's & 60's. Two of my favs are The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and Them!. The latter has an unbelieveable transfer. You might want to check out some of MGM's Midnite Movies. Angry Red Planet and Mario Bava's Planet of Vampires are fun flicks.

chente 06-30-04 06:03 PM

Anybody want to look at mine? I think I need more comedies. I don't generally like TV sets although I have a couple Twin Peaks and the beginnings of the Dick Van Dyke show which I think is the funniest show ever. The link to my collection is in my signature.

Edit to add some titles that I've ordered from the DDD sale but haven't arrived yet.

Lady from Shanghai
Billy Wilder Collection (Sabrina, Stalag 17, Sunset Boulevard)
Man Bites Dog CC
Spartacus CC

KPlummer 06-30-04 06:05 PM

I guess I am curious too as to what someone who looks at my collection thinks I would be interested in. I am about to join up with the BB unlimited rental program and work through titles I haven't ever seen on the AFI Top 100 list, then move to the IMDB Top 250.... Link is in sig of course

OK, I'll shoot one right back at ya. Are their Czech films? (Just being filmed in Prague doesn't count) Or how about Polish films? Now German, yes...just got the new Das Boot mini-series.

There are plenty of non-French foreign films. There's no shortage of well known films from other countries:

Italy (see: Fellini, Bertolucci)
Spain(see: Almodovar)
Germany(and more than just Das Boot)
Russia
Mexico
Japan
Hong Kong/China
India
and yes ideed, Poland(see: Roman Polanski)

Tell ya what, I'd watch a German film anytime over a French film. Let's just say there's some historical and current geo-political reasons for that.

And what would that be, World War 2? Or has somebody just been watching too much O'Reilly Factor lately?

I'm not a big collector of foreign films either, but I can say I've seen them and I'm aware they exist. You're sorta short changing the rest of the world here.

Angus Scrimm:

Have you seen MANIAC, directed by William Lustig?

It's a good depraved horror film with Tom Savini gore effects, including the best exploding head I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. It was banned in the UK and faced controversy from feminist groups in the States, because of all the gruesome violence towards women.

If you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth a Netflix!

TomOpus 06-30-04 10:40 PM

Bird, funny you should mention Maniac... I just picked it up today. You'd figure with my love of horror I would've had it a loooooooong time ago. I haven't seen it in many many moons and I was out DVD buying, spotted it and figured it was about time I had this puppy in my collection.

AnonomusBob15 07-01-04 12:17 AM

Check out my collection in my signature. I would love some suggestions.

weakerthans 07-01-04 12:26 AM

AnonomusBob15, I love your collection, you have all my favorite movies and all of the ones that are on my need to get list.

The only things I though were worthy of looking into were Ghost World and Memento, other than that maybe some diversification into foreign?

Anyone up for my collection? I hit 50 over Christmas but haven't been able to afford to expand lately, I have more foreign but Guzzlefish doesn't have those titles and I'm too lazy to add them.

TomOpus:

I think Maniac is a credit to anyone's collection. Mine's autographed by Lustig himself, so it was a major score.

That's an awesome collection you've got there. I see a few genre films I need... Zombie Holocaust, Rabid, Visitor Q, Twitch of the Death Nerve, and most impressive of all... August Underground's Mordum. I've got this detestable classic on VHS, along with its predecessor, but was hesitant about shelling out for the DVD. How's the quality? Is it worth the upgrade?

I figured with the intentionally grainy footage, it may be just as good on VHS. Plus, I have it on an unmarked tape, so that enhances the snuff effect for me.

JJ and Bird's DVD Collection

I'd like to get more foreign films. Any suggestions would be appreciated (besides Criterion titles).

AnonomusBob15 07-01-04 01:03 AM

weakerthans thanks for the info. I didn't care for Ghost World when I used to own it. Would like to eventually pick up the Memento Limited Edition someday.

BTW - Don't you want to complete your Paul Thomas Anderson collection?

Excellent! I'm hoping Bill might come out west someday (if he did, I probably missed him). I'd really like to meet him and shake his hand.

The quality is pretty good... sometimes too good :D But on DVD you can really tell they degraded the look of the film to match the "atmosphere". Also the DVD has extras (deleted scenes, music video, etc). I'm not sure if the VHS has those. If you got some extra $$, I'd go with the upgrade.

When I ordered the VHS of August Underground from Toe Tag, not only did I get the signed/numbered tape but also got a letter from Fred Vogel. He even drew a hammer in a pool of blood with my name written in blood. Very cool of him.

As far as foreign movie suggestions, most of mine (other than horror) are Criterions. You've got a pretty good collection (Bad Lieutenant heh). Maybe look at some Blue Underground, Mondo Macabro or Synapse movies? Maybe someone else can suggest some non-Criterion foreign movies. :)

Bird Jenkins 07-01-04 06:25 PM

That's pretty neat about Fred Vogel. I think that guy's a real talent and I hope he continues to make movies. It still astounds me that August Underground hasn't been distributed by a major company yet, even with the gruesome content. Shit, I wouldn't care if they sold it in the porno section, just put it in stores and get it out there. Most people, even quite a few horror fans, aren't aware of this film. I think it could make everyone involved a lot of money with the right marketing. That first film was brilliant, and should be studied in film schools as a fantastic example of cinema verite.

I've been meaning to check out more Mondo Macabro, so I'll definitely do that now. Thanks for the suggestions.

Daniel L 08-18-04 11:05 PM

Added plenty of Blue Underground releases and bunches of more stuff, check out my sig.

AnonomusBob15 08-18-04 11:16 PM

I'd like someone to take a jabb at my collection...... it's been downsized and upgraded all at the same time! since my last post that is......

TomOpus 08-18-04 11:45 PM

Just did a quick perusal...

sureAV421 - Nice collection! I share many of your discs. Have you thought of getting the newer edition of Panic Room?

Daniel L - Great collection! Very nice horror and sci-fi choices. I like the direction your collection is going. Maybe try some Japanese horror like Audition or a great Spanish ghost story like The Devil's Backbone.

AnonomusBob15 - Very nice collection. Bubba Ho-Tep!!. Even though it seemed out of place, I won't say anything about Along Came Polly :) You like what you like.

Daniel L 08-18-04 11:57 PM

Thanks for the compliments. DB just got a new DVD, so maybe I'll pick that up. I've recently discovered Blue Underground, so I've been ordering several titles from their library, as well. I realize that 114 isn't a ton of titles, but I am rather happy with it and am always looking to expand. :)
