Those auctions were posted by my brother. When we received these cases (as promos on release week), we never would have thought that they would be so coveted many years later.

i noticed db27 confirmed it, but i'm wondering what the source is. i'm not doubting it, and i'm hoping for it because i want it...but i've searched online and couldn't find anything...curious as to where db27 gets the info.
and thats a sweet American Gangster steelbook, however I'm looking forward to the R1 3-Disc Edition

He said he works at FYE, so he got the info from displays or something that they got in.
And yeah, I'm looking forward to the R1 3-disc edition as well, but that R2 Steelbook is reeeeeeeeal tempting. I'd honestly consider buying it, and then painting over or using a black permanent marker over the R2 ratings logos on the front. The dilemma is, can I get it for a decent price and have it shipped here? Hmmmm...

so what is up with FYE's not knowing what they are getting and when (as the signage said 2/19, but one guy said it was pushed back to 2/26)?? i mean how can we know and the store employees not even with 1.5 weeks till release.
i go to FYE today and ask if they are going to have a special for "Beowulf", the guy had to ask another guy and they didn't hear of anything. he said if you pre-order and we do you will get. but i said how will i get if you don't even know and there is nothing in the PC that says so, he said not to worry basically. i knew i could always get my $3.00 back anyway.
so i did and as i walk out there is a big promotion sign for "Beowulf" with "special metal packaging"!!!! i said sir, there is even a sign here. he was dumbfounded, but it was all good.
but, how could these employees who work there not know anything and they have a damn promotion for the package??? very strange imo.

I agree with you, but it seems a lot of employees not just at FYE, but everywhere, are just in it because it's a job, and it pays, and I don't blame them. We care about this stuff because we love DVDs, but it is amazing how many people who work with media like this don't care and take no interest in doing their job. Oh well.
Do we have any idea how much this will cost at FYE?

good question on price, i failed to ask, but even if i did they wouldn't have known. i know "Transformers" there was $24.99, but that was 2-discs, this being 1, maybe $19.99?

I find it unusual that F.Y.E. requires you to put down a deposit to reserve a Steelbook DVD. Is this the norm in the USA?
To the best of my knowledge, Future Shop has never required anyone to pre-order a Steelbook DVD, as they always have a huge inventory on release day.
It also appears that F.Y.E. does not do a good job in advertising their Steelbook DVDs online, since no one has been able to post a link.

AFAIK, FYEs are mall stores.. Like HMVs or the former MusicWorld.. They probably don't get allocated as many copies like the big box electronic retailers like FutureShop..

It is a norm to those who would like to have a guaranteed ownership upon release date (with T.W.E.C. Exclusives)
I think they are doing a great job(FYE)! the less "buzz", less "advertisement" The more demand in the future...
And whats challenging for collector's is that most TWEC stores are closing thus their number of production runs also depletes.
Speaking of FYE, These two from T.W.E.C. are slowly peaking up. One weird thing though.. These two "exclusive editions" are always mistaken to
- the regular "non steelbook" edition from other stores.
- the limited giftset

They are indeed limited, they are exclusives and they are OOP/Discontinued (GENEON's Closure)

as i mentioned in a few other posts, i actually have come to like some fye stores (including a wherehouse!). they seem to run independently of each other, they have a kinda quirky/eccentric/casual business sensibility (which obviously could be bad), and they dont seem to have any kind of ubiquitous, standard, vanilla uniformity that this western society so adores.
it reminds me of a kind of a mom and pops "general store". prolly a bad example. but imho, there is still yet room in this world for a lil fye

This might explain the lack of US only exclusive Steelbooks.
