But in all due respect, he may have meant well with his initial comments about this set. Who knows what may have transpired over at Paramount since then. Budget cuts, someone higher up getting involved and putting a halt to it all, or something else we have no idea about - politics, budgets, board meetings, back-stabbing. It all goes on in big corporations and one bad apple with a lot of power can nix everyone else's good intentions. So Mr. Blythe may end up being the undeserved whipping boy for this whole travesty, while the real scoundrels remain hidden behind-the-scenes. It's sad - almost as sad as this "special edition" set will be.
Nah. Reports leaked through early on that the set wasn't given a respectable budget and not to expect miracles, though even with low expectations most of us thought there'd be more. I don't think Mr. Blythe is in any trouble since his comments about uncut footage could just be related to the footage turning up as extras, though I think even he was under the impression more would come of this. But he's not the bad guy, just the messenger, and according to F13 fans who have dealt with him in person, actually nice and helpful. I'm guessing Paramount is afraid to step out from the MPAA. Has anyone else noticed how useless the MPAA is becoming? They censor movies to fit their R rating ideas (which are always hypocritical anyway, but that's another story) but then half of those movies become available unrated/uncut on home video. Kids would have a harder time seeing the R rated version at the movies than getting the DVD to watch. Seems like an outdated system that needs to go. Just list what evils lurk inside the film (violence, nudity....) on the packaging and let parents decide.

It's very possible Blythe had nothing to do with any of this. He was just the messenger. I know he is pretty high up and all, but not sure if he is actually involved with what goes on DVD's and what doesnt. He might not know much of anything about this and only repeated what he was told.

As for being let go. I highly doubt it. It's not like he embezzled money from the company or is Mr. Eisner of Disney. He made a mistake by saying anything, sure, but he is probably sitting there reading this and laughing at the comment.

You know for a fact though that someone from Paramount is reading or has read these forums at both this site and HTF. They frequent both sites.

They probably think half of us are nuts to begin with and cant figure out why so many are so upset. But, if it can possibly help the cause in getting a good set or the set being delayed until it can be made better and uncut (The number 1 thing 90% want), I could care less.

P.S. Another thing is that horror fans in general are looked down at because a small section of the fanbase is truly insane. But, every genre has it's share of whackos. So, it's not really fair. I have an interest in horror and I dont have a Jason shrine, I have never killed anyone, and I dont pray to Mrs. Voorhees head.

When picnics of ugly gals doing a strip tease with big stomachs in half tops are shown (like at that FVJ picnic), Harry Knowles being focused on like some creature from outer space (The slow motion going up to him was ridiculous), and those two lunch box dorks talking about Jason X, it doesnt help the case.

It only provides laughs for those shooting the film and all of us who see it.

My comment about Mr. Blythe being let go wasn't intended to be taken all that seriously. It was just a bit of sarcasm tinged by the lingering disappointment surrounding what's happened with this set. From his comments in the past and his accessibility to the fans on various forums, he does seem like a nice guy. In fact, that's why I infered that other people and other corporate shenanigans probably had much more to do with the derailment of this project. Yes, Mr. Blythe is probably simply the messenger. In the future, though, I think he will "bite his tongue" even moreso about upcoming projects than he did in this situation. Obviously, Ft13 fans listen to EVERY word!

We probably will never know the full details of what went on at Paramount which led up to this lackluster release. I'm sure Mr. Blythe or another Paramount rep will eventually acknowledge all of the fans' disappointment with a carefully worded statement about budgets and company policies - and that the set is still an excellent release with a lot of cool extras and at a competitive price-point. Blah blah blah. We all know the drill.

People have been boycotting the barebones Friday the 13th discs, and look what it's gotten them!

You shouldn't have to defend yourself to the people who make money releasing these kinds of movies. Everyone knows by now that all kinds of people like horror, and they've become very mainstream in Hollywood in the past 10 years.

Now that the original dvd releases of Friday the 13th have now dropped to $10, I'm gonna pick them up. The features of the upcoming boxset aren't good enough for me to buy.

Well I would wait for the official specs before deciding to buy the current dvds if I were you

You just never know,if some misinformation was floating around. Supposedly there may be commentaries on parts 1 & 4. We shall wait & see with the official press release before jumping the gun.
