Terminator 2: "Ultimate" or "Extreme"?

First, I like different versions of movies very much. So is the 5 minunte special edition that is hidden a big diference over the lesser extended version?

And then is the visual quality that much better on "Extreme"?
I am not that big into extras so basically I want to know the best version overall with video and audio and different versions.

Any comments and suggestions for those who have one or both would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am very satisfied with the "Ultimate" edition (and it's quite cheap nowadays).

Dunno about the "Extreme" version, just decided not to double dip on that one.

Ultimate Edition has extended version of the film, better/more extras, and DTS sound. However, the transfer on the Extreme Edition is better.

I gotta go with the only one I own and that is the UE. The DTS alone is worth owning it. Not to mention, as stated above and many other times... the extended version.

EE is MUCH better in the PQ dept.

the T2 UE has one of the most comprehensive and thoughtful collections of supplemental material related to the making of a film EVER.
it was a monumental LD package, and 99% of that material was ported over for the LD.

but since you say you aren't interested in extras, that makes a recommendation very easy.
the Extreme Edition is a HUGE improvment over the UE in terms of picture.
sharper, more detail, and far, far less edge enhancement marring the image.

i've seen superbits that didn't exhibit the level of improvment that exists between the UE and the EE.

i think that the only verison that may be missing on the EE is the really cheesy coda with Linda Hamilton in some dodgy old age make-up.

you'll watch the scene once just to see it, but you won't be missing anything not having it.
and as has been aid before, the EE contains both the theatrical cut and the exteneded version (although i think one is in the form of an Easter egg)

I have both myself. If you can only go with one, pick up the EE. Plenty of supplements, the extended cut, commentary, and improved picture. The "Ultimate" edition is OOP, anyway, although I'm sure it can be found easily online.

Get them both. The Ultimate has more supplements, but the Extreme has a pretty sweet high definition version. If your computer can support it, it looks teriffic. Plus, the Extreme Edition is $15 or less at any B&M

Got them both. Especially the UE is now OOP.

I own the Ultimate Edition, and I am quite satisified with it. I am not a huge fan of this film, as I found the first Terminator movie to be a lot better. But I may end up getting the Extreme version as well, if only for the better image quality. I will probably just stick to the UE in the end, however.

I own both, but if I had to choose between them I'd go with the Ultimate edition, no question. It has all the versions of the film and amazing sound, plus a dizzying array of extras. If all Cameron's movies were given this treatment I'd be a very happy man, indeed.

Since "ultimate" means "last" .... the UE is the last that I will buy.
Enough already.

Nope, that scene is on the Extreme DVD, too. IIRC, you watch the movie with the text commentary, and hit enter on the remote when the Cyberdyne logo comes on screen. It leads to many audio, video and image segments, including the original endingn with Sarah sitting at the playground where her son John, now a senator, is playing with his daughter.

If they had stuck to that ending, making T3 would have been pretty tough to do, because it negated Judgment Day.

But ya know what? WalMart has it for $14.44. That's only $3.81 difference. For ease and speed of purchase, and exchange if needed (which was needed in my case), I didn't mind paying a few bucks more.

Also, getting it in the store means you can pick and choose to find a package in the best condition. Me, I preferred the cardboard sleeved version over the metal one - as has been said before, the metal one tends to shred the plastic case inside.

Extreme only if you have an HDTV, UE if you do not.

Well it would be more than $3.81 with taxes.

Funny thing about the Metal Case, it was supposed to be limited, but unlike the UE that was not the case.

So if one has no HD TV, there's no difference between UE and EE in terms of picture quality??

That's not true. I'm not exactly sure what Iron_Giant is getting at with his post, but the picture improvements are visible on any set... not just HDTV sets.

Agreed completely. The picture quality on the Extreme Edition is a marked improvement over the Ultimate Edition, and it's obvious on my traditional 32-inch Sony TV.
