I got my copy of Frankenstein from Walmart... the majority of the boxes on the shelf had floaters... finally found a set without one... get it home and I guess the trip jarred it loose because when I opened it up disc 1 was off of the hub. They must not be putting the discs on the hubs properly when they are packaging them.

I just bought the boxset at Best Buy. The second disc in my Wolfman set was also loose & all scrathed to pieces.

Scratched discs seem to be a problem at Best Buy. I work at a local one and there were numerous customers coming in and complaining and getting exchanges. People were trying to blame us but I just kept telling them Universal is run by monkeys.

What really sucks about this is the packaging is actually really good, and i think the hubs are fine, it seems like the discs just weren't put on properly. My Dracula was on the hub just barely, and when you push them in properly, they are very secure, i can't see them becoming loose if put on properly in the first place

How come the picture on the back of the box shows 6 single sided discs but people are saying that some are double sided? I really hate double sided discs.

The first disc of each monster set is dual layer single sided, however the 2nd disc each set is double sided.

My set (from DDD) had two floaters, some scratches, but all seem to play fine.

I haven't seen the packaging for the box set yet - are the discs inside in the same packaging as each monster's individual collection, or is the packging for the box set more like the Buffy box sets?

I may spend a little more money and get them individually if the packaging is different (no floaters). There's nothing worse than getting a DVD in the mail and hearing a floater before you even open the plastic.

All 3 double-sided discs of the collection were loose and scratched to hell with my set
Unfortunately being a UK resident i don't have the luxury of popping to a local store to exchange them or indeed inspect the various sets on the shelf....i'm very disappointed to say the least and hope i can at least sort something out with the retailer who obtained me the set.
I wouldn't mind so much...i only bought the collection because it worked out cheaper for me than buying the releases individually...i couldn't care less about the cereal box figurines!!

I'm sorry all of you have had so much trouble with your sets. I just picked up all three (not interested in the busts) and all were in perfect condition.

If you go to a BM to buy this, shaking the box is a MUST. I went through a bunch of sets at BJs but finally found a good one. I feel bad for anyone who purchased this online.

Rich, you might want to just try playing the discs. A disc can look pretty rough without having any playback problems at all. I learned this lesson when I went multi-region and started stocking up on Hong Kong Legends releases from the UK. A LOT of those arrived off the hubs and scuffed up. Obviously I didn't want to bother with an international exchange if I could help it, and found that I never had a problem playing even the roughest looking discs.

My Frankenstein disc 2 was a floater. It was pretty scuffed on both sides. But I'll be damned if I'm lugging that set back to Best Buy unless the thing actually doesn't play properly.

Yes..unfortunately though i've just briefly skimmed through the 'Wolfman' disc (by far the worst affected of the three) and i'm suffering stuttering and freezing issues with playback....no apparent problems with the other two although i've not given them a thorough viewing.

Anyway...the retailer i obtained them from are proving to be most helpful as i've had a reply from them asking me to just send the discs back and they will replace them so thankfully i don't have huge shipping costs incurred in returning the WHOLE set.....i'm going to suggest they open and inspect the replacement packages prior to shipping them back to me.

Although the idea to try playing discs that are scuffed or damaged may not be the worst idea in the world considering some players can overlook minor damage to discs, but I know myself as a collector, I would never expect to have to keep a set that's damaged, reguardless of how it plays back. You may buy a cheaper player in the future for a quick fix in case your current DVD player dies. And you know how some DVD players just can't overlook minor damages to discs. You have to ensure the best for your DVD collection. It would be a shame to have something play back fine the first time and then have you find errors in it a year later down the line when it's too late to do an exchange.

I just got back from Best Buy. I was a little worried about going the day after new release day, but that's life. Anyway, they only had 2 left on display. I gently shook the first one and heard at lease 2 discs rattleing. Did the same with the second and it was tight as a drum. So I tok it. Opened it up when I got home and everything was perfect. Looks like I lucked out.

Well, UPS just delivered the set that I ordered on Amazon. I opened it up, checked each of the DVDs, and I had a massive total of 0 lose discs, everything in my box set is 100% mint condition.

Woohoo!

I haven't seen an answer to my question, so I'll ask again...

Is the packaging for the individual sets different from the box set? (Are the individual sets more secure and free from floaters?)

B5Erik they are the same packaging. All you miss out on is the busts. I ended up doing a Wal-mart switcharoo on the disks I ordered from DDD.

my set is so perfect it hurts...already owned the old coffin box, but it was worth the 54 with tax for just the sequels.

answer to your question...the store i worked at recieved aroud 15 each of the diffrent disc...i would go to say that 10-15 were loose in the box....the ones i opened that were loose for the store to play were scuffed pretty badly, but still played fine....however none of the disc in my box were shaky even though 5 of the 10 box sets we recieved were shaking inside.

Both of my Dracula discs were floaters with multiple scratches. Would Amazon replace just the Dracula discs - or do I have to return the whole bloody set? Has Universal addressed this problem?

Also, would Amazon just take the whole thing back so I can buy at local bricks & mortar store?

I got mine tonight at BB tonight (Only 2 left) and on your guys advice, I gave both sets a shake. One sounded worse than the other, so I took my chances with the latter.
Opened up the set and found that Dracula-disc 1 was loose, but didn't notice any scratches or smudges on any of 'em. I'll be back later to see if they run fine.

For Son of Dracula, has anyone had it stop somewhere between chpt.13-14 during the prison cell scene? Thanks.
