How about both? I grew up with the theatrical versions, and feel they should be preserved, but I also enjoy the SEs and how they integrate better with the prequel trilogy.

Can't wait till September...

I'll take "B" in modfather's poll... and "A" in jackskelton's.

Preferably at the same time.

The theatrical editions are the one and only edition.

I suspect, as I argued on another DVD forum, the theatrical versions will win the poll by a good-sized margin.

i actually like quite a lot of the SE created material.
i love the sunset and skies, the praxis rings don't really bother me, and the cgi ships are still within the spirit of the films.

but when he loses focus with his cgi revisionism- when the cgi additions begin to call attention to themselves within a scene, and/or distract from what is the primary purpose of a shot- or when a scene that is completely redundant is deposited back in (Jabba/Han) just to show off cgi work- then the whole movie suffers.
(i'm not even going to mention Han/greedo)

for that reason, though i like most of the SE changes/revamps, i would never take the entire SE films over the 'not broken' originals.
they are CLEARLY the product of an inferior storyteller- no matter how much prettier they look.

B.) A kick in the family jewels
Have you been reading the HTF SW thread? Mind boggling.

I prefer the original editions, though I can enjoy some of the changes in the SEs. The problem is it seems like there were two George Lucas' working on them. One that did things like the improved Battle of Yavin, and one that did things like Greedo shooting first. Kinda like that episode of Classic Trek with the two Kirks.

Regardless, I'm buying this set, but I'm hanging onto my LD player at the same time.

You really need more options on the poll.

Do either of them have inserts?

Would like to have both but would much rather have the theatrical versions I viewed in the theater.

Theatrical for me.

It would be ideal, though, if both were made available via seamless branching. Why are so few using this technology?

I don't mind either releases. But would prefer special edition with the extra new footage.

Theres a couple of things that bother me with the specail editions (like Greedo shooting first, and the CG Jabba scene in A New Hope). Other than those things, I dont mind the Special Editions. Ill be happy as long as I finally have the trilogy on DVD. Cant wait til Sept.

I like the old versions better, most of the additionas don't fit at all, but at least it doesn't severely detract I guess. But I'd prefer the old, classic Star Wars.

I think another option should be..."doesn't matter...i just want them NOW..."

I'm a huge fan but I don't care...as long as the sound and picture are perfect.

I don't mind the SE's at all, but I do agree with the Jabba the Hut stuff, that its just overall silly. Theatrical for me here too, even though I'm looking forward to the DVDs coming out in Sept?

I agree; how about an option of "any" release?

Don't care either way. Whatever version they release is the one I will buy. I am a casual fan of the trilogy (never have seen or will see the new ones), so whatever they release is fine with me. I will buy it either way, and not think twice about it.

I'd like the Special Editions but modified back to where Han shoots first.

Fine, from this point forward, let's assume that:

If you don't care which they release, vote for Option 3 (C). I figure this classification would be also useful for those who don't care because they hate the original trilogy. So if you love it or hate it, and just want the damn thing now, vote for Option 3. Options 1 & 2 are for those who specfically want it that way.

Me too. I'd have to guess that many that voted for the SE since they just want either one now? Just a guess, tho.
