I wonder who gets the profits from these sales, if indeed there are legal issues. Unfortunately I have failed in my attempts on today and previous to get the movie. But I guess I'll live

Sorry, but I don't want to read 29 pages, so I'll ask it here:

Is there an official explanation yet? Just a brief explanation or a link would suffice.

Thanks.

There is no 'official' response yet.

No official word yet but I've heard two possible reasons. One is that some or all of the deleted scenes may be unlicensed and the other is that Disney didn't like something that was said on the commentary. These are both rumors however so take this with a grain of salt.

There's a Borders in Bangor you might want to call. And I haven't heard anyone say the South Portland Best Buy doesn't have them out.
Here's number three, but I doubt I'll even check that Borders now since so many others have.

I got one and checked for the glitch posted above. Watched the last 30 mins.

The audio sounds a tad muffled. Like the clapping when he say's "This is for Bela" And afterwards in the rain when they leave the theater.

Will watch it later.

Well, I got a chance to take a peek at the disc on my lunch break...cool menus! I specifically checked the scenes that someone above had mentioned having problems with, and had no problems myself.

To the other Mainers...I never bothered to check Best Buy once I had found one at Borders.

Columbus, OH might as well stay away from these locations, because I checked and found nothing:

Borders - Sawmill Road
Circuit City - Sawmill Road
Media Play - Sawmill Road
Meijer - Sawmill Road
Best Buy - Tuttle Crossing
Walmart - Tuttle Crossing

Thrashers corner, Lynnwood, or Everett by chance?

There was about 20 copies at my local Best Buy in Houston. I spoke with one of the guys that work there, he was aware of the recall but their store didn't get any sort of letter indicating it so they put them on the floor.

For anyone in the Los Angeles area, the Borders on the 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica has *20* copies. Yes, 20. Well, 19 now, since I just bought one. They're on display on the 1st and 3rd levels, and I had no trouble buying one.

Good luck!

Alright you convinced me to go. And they don't have any on the shelves. FYE doesn't, either. And I double checked Borders, no go. (All at the South Portland Mall)

If anyone managed to snag an extra copy from Best Buy, I'd like to buy one from somebody FOR $19.99 + shipping, since none of my local retailers have it, or aren't selling it. Email me, [email protected] - I'm in NJ if it matters. Thanks.

I just bought two copies at the Blockbuster at Coit and Legacy in Plano, TX. Both locked in a new release cabinet. I'd asked yesterday for them to hold a copy, glad I went in and checked. Of course they weren't holding a copy. Oh when I asked for Ed Wood on DVD, they asked me "which one, we have 7 different ones listed in our computer."

Oh well just my story to add. Yes the other copy is spoken for. I will be checking Best Buy around 3:30 to see if it's there too. That would be nicer than the 29.99 list price, which strangely enough Blockbuster was almost apologetic for!!! And yeah count me in the group that expects to see these less than $40 by next week on eBay.

Thanks for reading.

Skip Easton as well.

Target
Best Buy
Walmart

I had one researved at Borders on Sawmill. I put in the reserve online yesterday and got a call at 4:00pm saying they had it and would hold it for me.

This morning at 10 til 10:00 am they called and told me the received a memo that the discs are defective and to check back in a couple of weeks (sounds like they were told they couldn't sell them but not given any real details).

Just picked up a copy at the Borders in Mission Valley (San Diego, CA). There was only 1 copy on the shelf but I didn't look very hard. I wanted to get the DVD. I can't tell you how nervous I was checking out. I thought lawyers with mouse ears were going to come out and arrest me.

It's only ridiculous if no one buys it. If he gets a sale, it was a good decision to price it at that point.

I was told by a video store clerk at a local indie shop here that the studio had a problem with something said on the commentary track against it. He said it reminded him of the time Criterion recalled one of it's James Bond LDs because the commentary track ragged on the Queen. The LD went up in value to like $250 after that. Maybe the same situation here.

I wondered back on page 9 of this thread whether the commentary could be the reason for the recall. (incidentally, the same reason was floated on the DVDBeaver mailing list when the first disc was cancelled). My money is on this: the disk will be re-released later this year or early next with a few chunks of dead space on the commentary track or a slight tweaking on the credits on the packaging, or both. Hopefully the rest of the commentary will remain intact.

Incidentally, re: the Criterion Bond LD, around the time of the recall Video Watchdog reported that the commentary on the three Bond LDs (Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger)were found by Albert Broccolli's production company to contain 185 statements which were "inaccurate, insensitive, inflammatory or potentially libelous." Chief among these was Terence Young describing the drug use of an extra, who had gone on to become the ultra-litigious head of a major record label. (I won't speak his name aloud, or he'll sue me and have my hard drive destroyed.)
