Where are you located at? Mine has not received them at all. Still 49 on order, eventhough the computer lists the DVD as 'Active'. I have a feeling you talked to someone who just assumed that since it's in the ad, it'll be in-stock and on the shelves tomorrow or something like that. If I'm wrong, grab yourself a copy first thing in the morning.

Just called my Best Buy and they said they never even received their shipment. The guy I talked to, who was actually very helpful, looked in the computer and said that no midwest stores have received shipment. Then to top it off, no date set for release.

Update for the IRVING TEXAS BB location... they are still in stock in the back and on ad... unless they pull them at the last minute.. there is not indication they are going back.

Yep, the same thing happened to some people during the Duel fiasco last year. The people who left it in their orders got it, the people who cancelled (obviously) didn't. I made sure to leave mine (with Rainman SE) open.

I think that most east coast BBs will not have this on hand for tomorrow.

I checked and even tho it said active, most stores in my region, as well as the Jersey stores still have theirs on order, but none have received them.

Educated guess right here: corporate had gotten wind of this and stopped shipments for the east coast stores (well, atleast NYC/Jersey).

Even if it comes up deleted, the on order number might still be there, and carry over until its put back into Active status.

This could all be wrong, its just educated guess work right here. I'll be checking some local places and Blockbusters for it tomorrow.

I'm in Erie, PA. My conversation went like this...

Me: Hi, I was wondering if you were going to be selling Ed Wood on DVD tomorrow.
Employee: Yes, we will be.
Me: For sure?
Employee : Yes, positive. Come in and we'll have it for you.

Over the weekend I was in the store and they said there was no notice of a recall.

Question: Why would some retail outlets (even those of the same name) be getting a recall notice, and some not getting a recall notice?

For example - wouldn't every single Best Buy get the same notice simultaneously? And if not - why?

It just seems to me that this dvd will either be released tommorow, or it won't be. It doesn't make sense that only *some* store will, and *some* won't.

You can still attempt to make an online reservation though by using this handy little link. https://www.bordersstores.com/search...sp?id=54120005 Who knows? Maybe you'll get lucky with an employee who isn't aware of the recall, checks the back, and holds it for you.
Thanks for the tip

I got an e-mail from the manager at the Borders closest to me. He said they have them and he already put one on hold for me for Tuesday. See what happens tomorrow.

I think there's no question about whether or not the memos went to all the stores. It's a matter of whether or not management reads everything in a timely manner... or at all.

Borders availability

Just did a Borders store inventory search and found the availablity status has been changed from "in store" to "not available", definitely not a good sign!

By the way, do you guys think WALGREEN will be a good place to try our luck? They do sell the newest releases every week.

The status has been "not available" for a while now. Use the link I posted above to search your individual local stores. Under each store name, you'll get an availability notice specific to that store. That's what matters... not the general unavailable message up top. Just send a reservation request and see what happens. My thinking was that Borders might not get the memo til tomorrow morning, but if somebody's put the DVD aside for you already the manager won't be able to find it... and the employee who doesn't know any better will happily hand you the package with your name on it when you go to pick it up.

I just got my order confirmed at half.com ... 262 comments, 99.2% positive feedback, so I'm feeling pretty hopeful about it. My Borders says that they're getting 4 copies in (they told me this yesterday), and that they couldn't reserve them in advance but to call or come in Tuesday and have them hold one. I was talking to the manager of the video dept, so I have faith that we're getting at least a few copies in. At our Best Buy, I had someone check the computer for inventory on it, and it said there were 25 copies "on order," but the status was Deleted (as far as I can recall). The guy said that they were probably in the back, but couldn't be sold until tomorrow; no signs anywhere there, either.

Here's hoping some of these pan out ... I'm feeling really desperate now (although that half.com confirmation made me breathe a little easier )

Borders told me that the title was recalled due to some sort of lawsuit, so it may indeed be a problem with the deleted scenes. My amazon.com order shipped, so it looks like I got lucky with my copy.

Got a hold confirmation from a Borders by me, but by the time I got there they were already telling me they can't sell it for legal reasons. Damn.

I was told by a video store clerk at a local indie shop here that the studio had a problem with something said on the commentary track against it. He said it reminded him of the time Criterion recalled one of it's James Bond LDs because the commentary track ragged on the Queen. The LD went up in value to like $250 after that. Maybe the same situation here.

On Another note, I've called a few local shops here. The Suncoast told me it was recalled. The Specs told me the same and admitted they had some in a box, in the back but will not be putting them out until the studio says it is OK. On the bright side, I called a few FYEs and they said they have them and will be available on Tuesday. One guy was about to pull one from the back and put it on hold for me, but someone corrected him before he had the chance, so he told me he could not do it until tomorrow. We shall see, tomorrow.... From what I have read on this post FYE is the place to check for these DVDs getting put out, despite the recall, so check those shops if you can. Call them—don’t be shy or you may just miss out!

I'm getting frustrated. I checked all Borders' inventory within a 200 mile radius, and none of them have it. No luck at FYE's, Media Play, Barnes &Noble, various Blockbusters, Hollywood Video, WalMart, some mom & pop stores, I've even checked at truck stops that sell DVDs. Nothing! At the stores I've asked about it at, they either tell me that they aren't getting any in, or that they can't sell them because of the recall.

I still haven't received a cancellation notice on my open order at digitaleyes.net, but I haven't received a shipping notice either. I just want to add Ed Wood to my DVD collection, but I'm running out of options.

There's always eBay. The prices have really dropped and if people keep finding it in the stores, they'll drop even lower. Looks like the last few I checked closed at $50 to $55. By the end of the week, they'll be close to MSRP.

I'll be out tomorrow, but if I don't find one, that's what I'm gonna do. Say, there isn't anyone around here with extra copies who has an eBay account, is there? Putting any up? Be sure to let us know. You could even have an approved bidders list so that only we could bid on it (hint, hint).

I fear today's hunt will be entirely unsuccessful. I will hunt nonetheless. I'm a good friend.

This reminds me of when the Criterion Tati's were pulled. When the studios pull this they should put an extra alert on the email:

"Warning. You will called by numerous members of DVDTalk asking/begging for a copy. Be polite and courteous. Use your best judgement in dealing with possible customer. Above all else, do not get them wet and do not feed them after midnight."

No copies here in my town.
Only 1 online order for me has yet to cancel it. Fingers crossed that they actually ship.
