Well, that review makes it clear that this is a great release. The only flaw mentioned was the menu arrangement, so it appears that Universal has come up with a winning marketing strategy for their monster movies.

Universal Horrors a DVD release?
I wonder if Universal will give a DVD release to the documentary that had a Kenneth Branagh voiceover and was a history of Universal horror through the years? I can't remember the exact title, but it had a VHS release in England a couple of years back.

That'd be Universal Horror (1998). Turner Classic Movies usually shows it every year around Halloween, and you're right, it's a great documentary about the history of the Universal horror films. It'd be great to see it on DVD.

Are the Frankenstein movies really scary, or just classics because they started it all as far as these genre of movies go? I'm debating whether to blind buy this.

Buy it they're classics that every movie fan worthy of the name should have in their collection.
By the standards of schlock horrors of today they are mild in their scary quality but some of them have genuine moments that jolt!

Not scary at all anymore...but Bride of Frankenstein is terrific entertainment all the way..& works as a black comedy, which is really is. Thus is is fun,but with some dramatic poignant moments that really hit home.
The original Frankenstein may seem very slow by todays standards..& it is alittle creeky at some spots. But still a classic film with some effective moments.

These movies are great they remind me of Famous Monsters of Filmlandand Castle of Frankenstein the mags I used to read as a young lad!!
Apparently they're goiung to make a movie about Forrest J Ackerman and the bizarre twists in his life anyone know about this?

I have the book, "Universal Horrors The Studio's Classic Films, 1931 - 1946" by Brunas/Weaver. Has a review of each horror movie with tons of behind the scenes info and some cool B/W pics. And it is over 600 pages!

All the important developing info on the Legacy Sets is on this other thread:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...postid=4773555
What transpires right now is that the reviewers are probably unduly ecstatic about the new sets which have no new significant features to offer compared to the "Classic Monster Collection", and are schackled with unyielding menus.
Furthermore the claim that The Bride has a new transfer that solves all its framing problems could be bogus. There is nothing wrong, frame-wise, with the existing Bride when you watch it on a computer screen for instance.
The rest is all wishful thinking. We'll have to wait and see.
P.S.: To anyone born after 1990: The "bride" in question has nothing to do with Quentin Tarantino. She's another bride and, all things considered, she's a much nicer creation...
